Free Gifts at Dicos Crispy Fried Chicken
Dicos, a fast-food chain that might not be on everyone’s radar, has quietly made its mark in China. Unlike its more famous counterparts like KFC and McDonald’s, Dicos offers its own unique take on fried chicken and burgers.
The Dicos Story: Dicos emerged in 1994 as a challenger to KFC’s dominance in the Chinese fast-food market. While KFC had already introduced fried chicken to China, Dicos aimed to provide a similar experience at a more affordable price. They focused on offering fried chicken and burgers in buckets, making them accessible even in smaller cities and transportation hubs.
Fried Chicken: At Dicos, you get a lot of chicken, but it’s distinctly Chinese-style fried chicken. Unlike KFC’s secret recipe, Dicos’ chicken is breaded and less seasoned. So, if you’re expecting Colonel Sanders’ iconic flavor, you might be surprised. But hey, variety is the spice of life, right?
The Water Bottle Deal: Ordering the drumstick set was a smart move. Not only did you get a tasty meal, but you also received a free water bottle. And here’s the kicker: that bottle can be refilled in the future for just RMB6.00. Talk about a refreshing deal!
The Hamburger Cat Toy: Now, this is where Dicos gets creative. You decided to splurge a little more and got yourself a cute hamburger cat toy. It’s these quirky touches that make Dicos stand out. Who wouldn’t want a feline friend inspired by fast food?
Our dining experience at Dicos was delightful. The crispy fried chicken, the water bottle bonus, and the adorable cat toy all contributed to a memorable meal. So, next time you’re in China, consider giving Dicos a try—it’s a taste of something different!

High Speed Train from Shenzhen to Hong Kong
A Swift Journey Across Borders
We were at Shenzhen North Railway Station, ready for an adventure. The sleek, silver bullet train awaited, promising to whisk us away to Hong Kong in mere minutes.
The platform buzzed with anticipation. Passengers queued up, clutching their tickets and passports. We stepped onto the train, greeted by plush seats and panoramic windows. The train hummed to life, and we were off.
The train accelerated smoothly, reaching speeds that blurred the landscape outside. Fields transformed into skyscrapers, and before I knew it, we were gliding across the border. The view of Shenzhen Bay was breathtaking—a tapestry of blue water and distant islands.
The train eased into Hong Kong West Kowloon Railway Station. I disembarked, feeling like a time traveler. The station’s modern architecture welcomed me. Immigration was a breeze; a quick stamp in my passport, and I was officially in Hong Kong.

The Midnight Express: How I Slept My Way Through China at 300 km/h
#100WaysOfTravel
Let me tell you about the time I conquered one of the world’s most bustling countries while snoozing like a baby on a cloud. It was the Shenzhen-to-Shanghai night train, and I’ll be honest: I boarded with the energy of a person who had fought through airports too many times. But this time, I thought, “No planes. Let’s see how the land of high-speed trains handles me.”
First off, let’s talk about boarding. I stepped onto the train at 8 PM, expecting the usual train chaos. But no! This train experience was smoother than a silk robe—silent, efficient, and so fast you feel like you’re getting on a spaceship. The moment I stepped inside, I knew I had made the right call. It was like walking into a secret high-speed club. There were plush sleeper cabins, soft lighting, and a pillow that said, “You deserve this.”
After throwing my luggage into its own personal nook (fancy, right?), I settle into my private sleeper cabin. And when I say “settle,” I mean I melted. The bed is like a warm hug from the universe. Sure, it’s a train bed, but why does it feel more comfortable than my bed at home? What is the magic here? Do they sprinkle it with fairy dust? If they do, I want some of that for my apartment.
Now, the evening is just getting started, and the train begins zooming north, barely making a sound. I lay back and watch through the window as Shenzhen’s skyscrapers zip by like stars in warp speed. Feeling like I’m living in a futuristic sci-fi movie, I pull out my phone and take a few photos to brag about later. Obviously.
Around 10 PM, it’s time for lights out. I’m expecting some clattering train noises, but instead, it’s like someone hit the mute button on China. All I hear is a gentle hum—almost like a purr from a content cat. I get under my blanket, which, might I add, was just the right amount of cozy, and close my eyes. Fast forward to what feels like five minutes later, and suddenly it’s 6 AM.
I wake up with a jolt, convinced I’ve missed something important—like, I don’t know, my stop or the entire journey. But nope! I’m just in Shanghai now, having slept through the whole thing like a log on vacation. In fact, I’m feeling so refreshed, I’m half convinced I’ve slept too well. Is that a thing? Sleeping too well? Maybe I’ve ascended to some higher plane of train travel.
The cherry on top? Stepping off the train and watching the sunrise over Shanghai. No delays, no hassle, just me, my carry-on, and the knowledge that I’ve just turned 10 hours of what used to be stressful travel into the most relaxing commute of my life.
If you’re ever looking to combine adventure, speed, and better sleep than you get in your own bed, the night train from Shenzhen to Shanghai is the ultimate solution.

Sleeper Hit: My Amazing Adventure on China’s High-Speed Night Train
#100WaysOfTravel
Let me tell you about my latest adventure on the Shenzhen to Shanghai night train—the journey that’s become my favorite way to cover nearly 1,500 km in pure high-speed bliss while catching some Z’s. Picture this: it’s 8 PM in Shenzhen, and I’m standing at the station feeling like a secret agent about to embark on a mission. The train pulls in like some sleek bullet from the future, and I half expect to hear the *Mission Impossible* theme in the background.
I board and immediately make myself at home in my cozy little sleeper cabin, which, by the way, is like the Ritz-Carlton on rails. I’m not even exaggerating (okay, maybe a little). The bed is comfortable enough that I start to wonder why I even own a mattress at home. It’s soft enough to melt into, but firm enough to remind you that you’re still a responsible adult with places to be.
As I settle in, I can already feel my “regular” mode of travel—airports, boarding gates, cramped airplane seats—being utterly humiliated by this delightful experience. I mean, who knew I could move across half of China *without* having to play Tetris with my legs in economy class?
Now, let’s talk dinner. I wasn’t expecting much, because, you know, “train food” has a reputation. But let me tell you, when that dinner cart rolls in, it’s like the culinary version of winning the lottery. I’ve got rice, stir-fried vegetables, and beef that actually tastes like beef, not a mystery meat substitute. All of it washed down with a piping hot green tea that makes me feel more zen than a monk on a mountain. At this point, I’m seriously questioning if I’m on a train or if I’ve accidentally stumbled into some sort of high-speed, mobile resort.
The best part though? The night. You’d think the sound of the train speeding along the tracks at 300 km/h would be distracting, but nope. It’s like the train is giving you a gentle lullaby, a rhythmic hum that lulls you into the deepest sleep of your life. I pass out like a baby by 10 PM, snuggled under the blanket, with my only real problem being that I *might* be getting too much rest.
Around 6 AM, I wake up, and I kid you not, I’m actually feeling *refreshed*—on a train! Who does that? By the time we pull into Shanghai at 6:30 AM, I’m a new person. I’ve got my game face on, ready to take on the world—or at least the breakfast buffet in the city.
Oh, and did I mention the view? Watching the sunrise as the train glides through the countryside is like witnessing a live-action nature documentary. You know, without David Attenborough narrating. But still—breathtaking.
All in all, if you ever get the chance to take the night train from Shenzhen to Shanghai, do it. Not only will you arrive feeling like a well-rested millionaire, but you’ll have a travel story that’ll make your friends wonder why they ever wasted time in airports.
