2024 Taketomi Island Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)

[Okinawa] What is the closest remote island that can be reached in 10 minutes from Ishigaki Island?
Strictly speaking, it depends on the weather at sea, but I think it's about 10 to 15 minutes.
The remote island in question is "Taketomi Island."
Taketomi Island is a wonderful island that condenses all the good things about Okinawa. The sea is beautiful, the buffaloes walk around, and the shisa are cute. The sea seen from the West Pier over the sea is also beautiful.
Also, as is common on islands, when you walk around the island, you may suddenly realize, "Oh! This is the person who was in the restaurant with us earlier!" and gradually become familiar with the face, and gradually the conversation will flow.
It is because of these unique island experiences that the trip will be memorable, so I love meeting people.

Bougainvillea flowers can be seen all year round on Taketomi Island, Okinawa.

Taketomi Island, Okinawa Prefecture, February 2024
When you come to Taketomi Island, you definitely want to ride the water buffalo cart 🐃
While listening to the sounds of the sanshin and songs, you can slowly tour the village.
The cart also goes through the Bougainvillea Road 🌺
Even in February, there were plenty of flowers in bloom~! So happy!
When you arrive at the port, a shuttle bus will be waiting to take you to the water buffalo cart station! (No reservation needed)
By the way, you can also rent a bicycle at the water buffalo cart station ◎
They also took a commemorative photo at the end, and I couldn't resist buying it 🫣

🛳️ About 10 minutes by ferry from Ishigaki Island
[Ishigaki Island, Taketomi Island] Enjoy the emerald green sea ♡
I enjoyed Ishigaki Island and Taketomi Island!
The weather was a bit gloomy on the day we arrived. ☁️
But we cheered ourselves up and went to Ishigaki beef yakiniku! ❤️
The weather started to improve after we ate!
Even though Kabira Bay was a bit cloudy, the sea was clearly emerald green✨
In the evening, we went to Mongoose by kayak😘
The next day, the weather was amazing, so we went to Taketomi Island♡
We cycled around the island! It was nice to see the ferry terminal easily♪
The sea on Taketomi Island was also incredibly clear♪
I was satisfied with taking lots of photos(^^)
At night, we made a reservation at Usagiya! We sang and drank and it was great✨

Taketomi Island: Enjoying Okinawa's Original Scenery
Visiting Taketomi Island, which is just a short boat ride from Ishigaki Island in Okinawa Prefecture, I believe you can see the original scenery of Okinawa. Taking a buffalo cart tour around the island or renting a bicycle for sightseeing are especially recommended. You can also see shisa statues on the roofs and, depending on the season, beautiful flowers. Furthermore, the night sky is incredibly beautiful due to the low light pollution.
Of course, there are also eateries where you can enjoy local food such as Yaeyama soba. I think it's a good idea to taste the local food. Please try to experience a slow and relaxing time on Taketomi Island that will make you forget your daily life! There are not many accommodations, but I recommend staying on Taketomi Island!
Infamous Star Sand Beach Taketomi
It’s all in the name: Hoshizuna no Hama, or Star Sand Beach, located on Taketomi Island in Okinawa, Japan, is filled not with sand made up of rocks and minerals, but instead with microscopic star-shaped particles. These tiny particles have no relation to the stars in the night sky, nor to the starfish wash up on shore with them. Star sand is actually the remnants of tiny organisms, a group of animals belonging to the subphylum Foraminifera. Their scientific name is Baculogypsina sphaerulata, but marine biologists call them “living sand,” although technically the discarded exoskeletons of the microscopic animals that wash up by the millions on shore are just the dead remains. This particular species of “forams” is found only in East Asia along the Pacific Ocean in coral reefs, making Star Sand Beach and the other coastlines where B. sphaerulata live and die rare treasures.#beach #ishigaki #japan #okinawa #stars
