Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route
I bought a local 2 days 1 night tour and went there with my 6yo daughter. The tour was travelling East direction, from Tateyama Station to Ogizawa Station.
We noticed that there is lesser crowd if u start from Ogizawa to Tateyama.
During this 2-day coach trip, we wander past traditional Japanese farmhouses in World Heritage–listed Shirakawago village and stroll the mountain town of Hida Takayama, aka Little Kyoto.
We started from :
1. Tateyama Cable Car (7 mins )
2. Bijodaira
3. Tateyama Highland Bus (30 mins) (Shomyo Falls can be seen from the bus)
4. Murodo (lunch, stroll, experience the snow wall)
5. Tateyama Tunnel Trolley Bus (10 mins)
6. Daikanbo (the observation deck atop the station or enjoy the view from the second floor)
7. Tateyama Ropeway (7 mins)
8. Kurobe Cable Car (5 mins)
9. Kurobe Dam sightseeing
10. Kanden Tunnel Electric Bus (16 mins)
11. Ogizawa Station. 1433m above sea level.
12. The end of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route.
We took 5 hrs to complete the whole route from Tateyama Station to Ogizawa Station.
The snow wall was by far the highlight though all the other points were very beautiful.
The ropeway with 360 degree views of the snow clad mountains on all sides was a beauty.
I would highly recommend this to everyone visiting Japan, and especially in April when the snow wall is at its highest point.
We wish that we have more time at the Murodo as my daughter loves playing with snow and the walk along the snow wall was very amazing.

Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route
#wheretogo The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route in Japan is a mind-blowing adventure through the heart of the Japanese Alps. It's not just a regular trip; it's like stepping into a postcard-worthy wonderland. You start in Tateyama and hop on a bunch of cool rides, like cable cars and trolley buses, each offering jaw-dropping views of the rugged mountains, lush valleys, and dense forests.
Now, here's the real showstopper – the massive snow walls! If you go in the spring, you'll be walking amidst these colossal snow corridors, some taller than two-story buildings. It's like something out of a fantasy movie and a perfect Instagram moment.
But, a little heads up, it can get pretty packed during the high season. So, plan your visit accordingly. Despite the crowds, the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is a must-do for anyone who loves nature and a bit of adventure. It's a visual feast and an incredible way to experience the Japanese Alps in all their glory.

There are English guidebooks available for pickup at the ticket window, a gift shop, and food stalls. There are also many interesting flavors of soft ice cream, like the delicious pink tulip flavored one I enjoyed. This place may be reached easiest by car, and parking is readily available.

Tulip Season
#springblossom We think it could be very crowded if we don't go early but the organizers make it very neatly. Almost all type of tulips you could find here. Parking just near by. After point 1 and 11, You could enjoy some ice-cream before going further, the price is very competitive and they serve free cold water on hot days which is great. For lunch, we suggest to bring a tablecloth for laying and frying noodle for food. The noodle includes egg, meat, vegetables and with good price, you could try some fresh strawberry fruit hể too. Don't forget to bring a hat. That was a fantastic place for tulip hanami.

Toyama Castle Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
The terrain of Toyama
Honshu in the northern part of Honshu, Japan is based on the Noto Peninsula, the Toyama, Takayama, and Nagoya areas, and the Mie Prefecture is the tail. The whole area is reminiscent of the dragon. modeling. Therefore, the tourist area here is called "Shenglong Road".
If you choose to use Nagoya as your entry point, then the itinerary is based on Nagoya-Gero-Mountain-Toyama Kanazawa-Shirakawa. My trip to the Spring Festival is also arranged for a few nights in Toyama. One hotel is cheap, and the second is convenient to the world cultural heritage Shirakawa Township or Wuyi Mountain. At the beginning of
2, there was no snow in Nagoya and Gero, and there was a thin snow in the mountains, and the more north of Toyama was still snowing everywhere. The children in the south suddenly felt the right place!
Toyama itself has almost no attractions, the only thing that can be visited is Toyama City, and there is a small park and boat nearby. All the way from the train station, the sky is drifting down the sky, the whole city is rendered white, the best place to take pictures is a bright red bridge in front of Toyama City, try to find more trees dark background, in the bridge Take a stroll and play with snow. If you are lucky, you can also play with the cute cherry sister.
Spring at Toyama Castle
#cherryblossom2024
Toyama Castle Park is the grounds of the former Toyama Castle initially constructed in 1543, belongs to a lord whose clan ruled over Toyama and Kaga province during the Edo Period. The Castle keep was dismantled during the Meiji period. Today, it consists of a garden and several keep housing the treasures and lacquerwares. During Spring time, there is also a Tulip festival where thousands of tulips were planted and full bloomed during mid of April. There are also a stream where you can take the boat to view the Cherry Blossoms when it is fully bloomed. A very nice place to visit indeed.
Visit Toyama Castle
Toyama Castle, a castle in a public park located in the heart of Toyama city, serves as a relaxation area for the town with its serene atmosphere and lush surroundings. The main building houses a museum displaying the history and heritage of this castle, which is over 400 years old.
During the spring season, the 'cherry blossoms' in the vicinity of Toyama Castle Park bloom splendidly. Visitors can enjoy the cherry blossoms within the park and also take the Matsukawa River Cruises to experience the scenery along the Matsukawa River that flows near the castle.
Additionally, there is the Matsukawa River Cafe' (松川茶屋) located by the river, offering a menu of food and beverages where you can sit and enjoy meals, desserts, or chill with a drink. A recommended item is the Toyama Castle Matcha Parfait (780 yen), a rich flavor that everyone should try!
Access: About a 10-minute walk from Toyama Station.
Toyama Castle
#thingstodo Historical site near Toyama City. I am lucky to witness flocks of cranes resting at the tree next to this historical architecture. Serendipity and occasionally you will also hear cranes communicating to one another. This is an unforgettable experience for me as I hardly had this rare opportunity watching these birds not one, but more than 30s, resting on the tree branches. Simply amazing and had it not due to time constraints, I would sit nearby this beautiful place watching the birds and hopefully catch the sunset here as well. I made a right decision to visit Toyama!

Japan Offbeat|Surrounded by mountains and sea, a guide to the sunny coastal route
|Surrounded by mountains and sea, a guide to the sunny coastal route. Japan Offbeat|Surrounded by mountains and sea, a guide to the sunny coastal route.
A few years ago, I was attracted by a photo: towering snow-capped mountains, azure sea, and a rock standing alone in the sea. The red train travels along the sea, the whole atmosphere is too beautiful.
The sunny coast can see the Tateyama Kurobe Snow Mountain Range across Toyama Bay, which is called the Northern Alps of Japan. To see the stunning scenery in the promotional photos, not only do you need to choose the right season, but also encounter good weather. I went in the early morning of early November, the sun was quite strong, the snow mountain was not very obvious, but it was very comfortable to walk by the sea~
Transportation route:
JR Himi Line: Takaoka-Amefuri about half an hour
Hokuriku Shinkansen Shin-Takaoka Station takes the Jōtetsu Line to Takaoka Station; Kanazawa Station/Toyama Station takes the IR Ishikawa Railway·Ainokaze Toyama Railway to Takaoka Station, then transfer to the Himi Line to Amefuri Station
Tips: The departure interval of the Himi Line is relatively long, about one hour, remember to check the round-trip train times
Amefuri Station is very small, only cash tickets can be bought, Takayama Hokuriku JRpass Himi Line is not available
Tour direction (map in the last one):
If you want to go to the coastal trail, turn right out of the station, walk for about 5 minutes, turn right through the railway to reach
If you want to go to Onna Rock for photo viewing, turn left out of the station, you can see Michi no Eki in about 5 minutes, above is the viewing position
Onna Rock
Walking to the sea, the first thing you see is Onna Rock standing in the sea. The rock has elegant green pines and always appears as the foreground of the mountains and seas in various photographic works
Tateyama Peaks
The 3000-meter-high Tateyama Peaks form the background of Amefuri. In winter, the top of the mountain is covered with snow, forming a beautiful landscape painting with the blue of the sea.
Seaside Train
The Himi Line runs along the coast, and the red train adds dynamics to the composition of the coastal snow mountain. Whether you are watching from the viewing platform or looking out the window on the train, the scenery is beautiful. But not every train is red, the train interval timetable can be seen inside the station
Michi no Eki Amefuri
There is a white building on the opposite side of the coast. The 2nd and 3rd floors are outdoor viewing platforms. This is a great place to shoot a small train.
There is a cafe and a lot of Doraemon peripherals inside. Sitting in front of the clean floor-to-ceiling windows and having a cup of coffee is really comfortable~
The coast is beautiful all year round, and the snow scene in winter is even more beautiful. The snow period of Tateyama Peaks is from October to June of the following year. Only when the weather is good enough can you see such a stunning view.
It is recommended to go in the afternoon, the sun is not so strong, and the light and shadow of the sunset will be very good
Japanese niche coast · Amagihama coast
The Rainy and Clear Coast is really beautiful.
Another year of red leaves season, I just want to go to Kanazawa Fushimi to enjoy the maple leaves. At that time, I saw a photo of Yuqing Coast on 🍠 and suddenly wanted to go there.
When I saw the coastline from the tram, I was instantly amazed. It was really beautiful, and there weren't many people compared to Kyoto's autumn leaves viewing and Kamakura's beach.
Really, really love Rainy Coast. At that time, I hated myself for not knowing how to take photos and not having a telephoto lens to take beautiful pictures.
🚃Transportation
Take the Aizuwakamatsu Railway from Toyama Station to Takayama, transfer to the Hida Line and go to Ame-no-Kogen Station.

The Great Buddha of Takaoka, located in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, is said to be one of Japan’s three largest Buddhas, along with the Todaiji Temple’s Great Buddha of Nara, and the Great Buddha of Kamakura in Kanagawa Prefecture.
