Start point: near Adventist Hospital in Tsuen Wan End point: Sham Tseng Time needed: 3 hours Enjoyable hiking route even in a cloudy day with a bit rain. Keep going uphill in the first hour via Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trial, a well paved trail which is safe for hike even the floor is wet. Saw some Lychee trees in the middle of the hike 🤩 Arrived at the top, Shek Lung Kung, and took rest for a while to enjoy the nice and wide view overlooking Tsuen Wan, Tsing Yi, Kowloon and the Hong Kong Island (you can see ICC & IFC!!) Following will be all the way downhill so you can relax yourself to enjoy the rest of the route. Closer to the end of the route, not only you can see the nice view of Tsing Ma Bridge, you may also see some cows and goats walking alongside 😆 Arrived at Shum Tseng in 3 hours. Tak Wah Park is situated in the centre or Tsuen Wan and close to the town centre. According to the information at the park, it is developed on the old site of Hoi Pa Village. The Old House, one of the retained buildings of Hoi PA Village, was declared a monument in 1986. There are facilities such as the Camellia Garden, Herb Garden, children's playground, rock mountains made from Tauhu rock (a kind of limestone produced in Suzhou which is close to Lake Tai), ornamental lakes, stone bridge, pavilion, etc. Passed by Tak Wah Park every time when shopping but have never entered it. Wondering what is inside the park, I enter the park and walk along the stone bridges. Old and tall trees shaded the pavilions. It is a relaxing and pleasure place in the heart of Tsuen Wan this busy district. The air seems more refreshing inside the park haha... Conveniently located in @opmallhk above the Tsuen Wan West MTR station , @soymarthk serves up all things ‘soy’, from drinks like soy milk to desserts including soybean pudding and even light snacks such as fried tofu There was quite a queue when we came to get dinner takeaway, but we killed some time by observing the soybean extraction process in the see-through kitchen while we were waiting for our order [7°6 Espresso Soy Milk] In order to sample their true soy milk taste, we opted for this original flavour without any additional ingredients. The unsweetened drink was mild-tasting with a nutty texture, making it a healthy choice. [Black and White Sesame-Topped Soy Milk Tea] A super smooth sesame sensation. Didn’t expect there to be soft tofu pudding and sweet boba pearls in the drink (only realised it’s written in Chinese after taking a look at the menu again), but it sure elevated the drink’s sugar levels and our spirits! [Tofu Pudding with Chewy Toppings] This dessert came in meticulous packaging to keep the heat in (we chose the hot version as it’s freezing these days). The creamy cheese flavour was quite strong (in a good way) while there were plenty of chewy toppings , including our fave taro balls and boba pearls. [Fried Salt and Pepper (Cotton) Tofu] There are two kinds of tofu you can choose from the menu (despite the English names being the same). The employee told us that the first one (cotton/momen tofu) has a firmer texture while the latter (silken tofu) has a softer texture when we asked about the differences. The hot crispy outer layer was flavorful with ample seasoning while the inner tofu was tender and velvety. [Pork Chop and Egg Rice Roll] The portion of this sticky rice roll was honestly huge and extra fulfilling. The fried dough sticks and crusty pork chop cutlet added an extra crunch while the mayonnaise and egg complemented the overall flavour well. A quiet and cosy Japanese restaurant at Plaza 88. It really is a hidden gem 💎 easily overlooked due to a simple and mysterious like exterior. We had lunch Omakase, it’s cheaper when it’s lunch, and ordered a full course, including entrée, sashimi, sushi, don and dessert. The bill came at $2xxx for 2 person. It uses black as the main tone, which is very stylish. Food placement occupies almost half of the place, price, all-you-can-eat buffet 120 minutes + hot pot🍲 is 200 / a person (golden time), a wide range of food choices, also includes sashimi, special beef shoulder rib eye. Before seating, choose the soup. We chose miso hell spicy and sukiyaki (Yuan Yuen soup + $ 9). Passed by DPark the other day and kids wanted to go to the Whale Garden. We used to go on a weekly basis, prior covid; it is an outdoor playground but fully shaded by the mall. It’s considered “theme park” of a shopping mall, hence there’s opening hours. Kids and myself love this playground because it provides a variety of facilities that train kids muscles and coordinations. They have 2 sections, one for young child of 2-5yo with simple equipments like the bouncy crab, drum circle, sea saw and the giraffe theme slides and climbers; and another section at the sperm whale theme playground with lots of climbing, steep slides, clown fish climbing bars and the whirls. For parents and guardians? It’s fully covered, no sun and no rain, enclosed with only 1 entrance to the shopping mall guarded by a staff. However,due to covid, you can’t walk in like we used to. The garden opens daily from 12noon to 5.30pm BUT you can only register in person. And there’s time limits for each sessions. ✅For 12noon to 2.30pm sessions, you may register at 11.30am ✅For 3pm to 5.30pm sessions, you may register at 2.30pm Each with 30 mins play time, and limit to 1 adult and 1 kid per register. We were there at 3.30pm on a weekday and was told all sessions are full. The staff mentioned it’s always full immediately on a daily basis. I guess you just have to come early for registration. Microparks : Yi Pei Square Playground Design Trust Studio initiates the idea of Play is for People, rethink and design public space into micro-parks. One of them, located in Tsuen Wan’s Yi Pei Square opened on 15th April ! It took 3 years to complete. To be honest I am really surprised they’d chosen the location, Yi Pei Square. If you’re familiar with Tsuen Wan, it’s located right behind the Yeung Uk Road Market, surrounded by chinese mansion/ low rise apartments where the ground floor are commercial shops. There are some specials which my kids love, the merry go round with climbing nets, the box and ball climber slides, the tunnels with rubber slopes where kids could just walk up and slide down etc. As much as I like the idea of rebuilding a local community, redesign public space for kids and elderly, this location is just not my ideal hang out space. Shades: the buildings pretty much provide a shade from sunlight but definitely not for rain Toilet: nowhere to be seen Enclosed: no. It’s all made by recycled materials/ household refuse; perhaps giving you ideas on crafts you could do at home with all you have. My kids took some time to appreciate the artworks, having all sorts of ideas, thinking to create their own farm once we’ve collected enough materials. A colourful village Kwong Pan Tin Tsuen (#光板田村) is a squatter village located at the mountain of Tsuen Wan. Volunteers and villagers refurnished walls and corners together, turning it into a cheerful and colourful village; it’s like the Hong Kong version of Rainbow Village. This is a simple and easy walk up from the MTR station. The stairs are painted in rainbow colour sequences, the corners and walls have different drawings and paintings too. It’s nothing fancy but kids learnt to appreciate others artwork. How to get there? There are 2 buses with route passing the village, KMB bus no. 51 on the bridge of flyover and mini bus no. 80 at Chuen Loong Street. Then get off at Kwong Pan Tin Tsuen Section 2 (光板田村二段). Once got off the bus, you’ll see the entrance of the village. The stairs and walls are painted, so you will never miss it! Kind reminder, this is a living village, although it’s open for outsider to visit and admire the paintings, please do control your voice and action, try not disturb the villagers who are living there. Sharing the same entrance as NOC, the front part of the venue is a coffee shop, while the back is Parkside. The decor here is stunning, especially for Tsuen Wan, and is unparalleled. When you're hot and sweaty, a cold drink is the most practical choice. Fossil Flurry is the restaurant's signature drink, designed to match the petrified wood park theme. Made with Oreo, cream, and milk, it's quite filling. Instead of worrying about what to eat, why not go for the tasting menu?
