Thousand Islands Easy Hike!
#visithongkong
Thousand Islands is a scenic natural area located in Tuen Mun, Hong Kong. It is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. The area is comprised of a group of manmade islands and islets, and it is essentially a reservoir. The excellent clay pot rice at the Chinese-Japanese fusion izakaya 🍚🍱
Mom loves to eat fish, so I took her to try the white eel claypot rice at Autumn Fragrance today. She was very satisfied and even wanted to invite friends to come for dinner tonight.
📍Location: Near Chi Shin Street, about a five-minute walk from Jufuk Building (now Autumn Fragrance Club) behind it.
🏠Ambience: The small garden-style storefront has outdoor seating under a pink exterior wall. The indoor area is square-shaped, with high stools and two-person tables by the window, a sofa and four-person table against the blue wall, and a bar on the right decorated with liquor bottles. Japanese crystal lamps hang from the ceiling, and a horizontal banner is hung on the middle wall. The overall decor is warm-toned with a hint of Chinese style, despite being a Japanese izakaya.
🤵🏻Service: Orders are taken by staff, and a service charge is added.
🍽️Lunch: Set meals are available, with complimentary soup and salad 🥗, and special drinks can be added for $15.
🥢Salt-baked white eel claypot rice🥘 $238
This dish is not included in the lunch set, so it must be ordered separately. Although it appears small, it is actually quite filling ☺️. The white eel is fresh and thick, with firm and fragrant meat 😋. In the middle, there is a raw egg sprinkled with scallions and sakura shrimp. The rice at the bottom is mixed with soy sauce and has a crispy texture, making it very delicious and flavorful 🤤. Highly recommended 👍.
🥢Red curry green mussel and crab meat handmade pasta🍝 $88
This dish comes with a vinegar salad 🥗 and noodle drum soup 🥣, and the portion is large. The handmade pasta is thick and chewy, with a delicious sauce and three plump green mussels 🤭. I especially love the spicy red curry sauce, which is both flavorful and appetizing, with a hint of crab meat 🦀. Great value for money 👍.
🍵Grapefruit peach oolong tea $15
I ordered a pot of hot tea for my mom, and it was surprisingly delightful 🤩. The tea has a refreshing fragrance, with a hint of sour grapefruit and sweet peach 🍑. The three flavors complement each other very well, making it a refreshing and appetizing drink.
🥤Passion fruit pineapple soda $38
This drink looks great, with a pineapple slice that not only serves as decoration but can also be eaten 😙. The fruity flavor is rich and refreshing, making it a perfect drink for cooling down 🥳.

Spectacular Sea View Restaurant
L’Atlantis is located at Golden Beach front, on Castle Peak Road, close to Gold Coast, Tuenmun, Hong Kong.
The restaurant has excellent atmosphere for dining either cozy indoor or sea breeze outdoor.
In good weather, it is rather to stay outdoor to watch activities on the beach, sea view and sense of warm sun and chilly wind.
The restaurant is boasted for French seafood dining. Its lunch set menu is very attractive with price from around HK$100 or so which includes house salad, daily soup and the choice of main dish plus drink.
The particular day of house salad was fresh crispy salad with vinaigrettes dressing. The daily soup was creamy mushroom soup with crunchy garlic bread. For the main, Norwegian salmon cubes risotto in oil cream sauce was the choice. Last was a nice hot coffee with cream.
The food were excellent and tasty but the service was dropped from last visit sometimes before pandemic. The bill was presented with wrong price but eventually amended. So check bill to the correct amount before payment.
Overall always enjoying the good food with a superb view in a unconditional weather is perfect to unwind one’s soul.

Airy, Spacious and Easily Reached Park
Tuenmun cultural park is in the centre of town, can be reached either by bus or light rail stopped at Tuenmun Town right in front of the park. The Tuenmun Bus Terminal is just next to the park.
It is significantly surrounded by the Town Hall, Public Library, government building office, the Court house.
The park itself is open planned, spacious with lots of sitting area under shade, trees, plants and lovely blooming flowers all year round. It is always busily occupied by neighbours especially early in the morning for exercise and later of the day for leisure, meetings also for visitors who attend this area either for business or pleasure.
The big bronze statue of Dr Suen Yat-sin or Sun Yat-sen is standing as memorial in the middle of the park.
Shopping and eating malls are just within reach like Tuenmun Town Plaza, Tuenmun Trend Plaza etc. These malls can be accessibly and conveniently reached from the park to one another with under covered walkways.

Beautiful Park in Tuen Mun, Hongkong.
Tuen Mun Park is a beautifully landscaped park located in Tuen Mun, Hong Kong and it is one of the largest parks in the area.
One of the first things that struck me about Tuen Mun Park was its sheer size. The park is massive, and there is plenty to explore here. It is well-maintained, and the paths are wide and paved, making it easy to navigate. The park is divided into different sections, each with its own unique features. There is a large pond, complete with fountains, where visitors can take a boat ride or feed the fish. There are also several playgrounds and sports facilities, including basketball courts and a skate park.
Another standout features of Tuen Mun Park is the variety of flora and fauna that can be found here. The park is home to over 200 species of plants, many of which are rare and exotic. There are also several bird species that can be spotted in the park, including kingfishers, herons, and egrets. The park has been designed to be an eco-friendly space, and visitors are encouraged to respect the natural surroundings.
What #weeklyrecharging #couplestrip I loved about Tuen Mun Park was the sense of tranquility that it offers. Despite its size and popularity, the park manages to feel like a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city. The lush greenery and beautiful scenery make it easy to forget that you are in the middle of a bustling metropolis.
There are plenty of activities to keep visitors entertained in Tuen Mun Park. The park is a popular spot for picnics, and there are plenty of benches and tables throughout the grounds. There are also several food vendors selling snacks and drinks, so visitors don't have to worry about bringing their own food. The park is a great place to bring the whole family, with plenty of activities for children of all ages.
Overall, I highly recommend a visit to Tuen Mun Park if you find yourself in Hong Kong. It is a beautifully designed and well-maintained space that offers a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the city. Whether you want to go for a walk, have a picnic, or simply take in the natural beauty of the area, Tuen Mun Park has something for everyone.
Tuen Mun Park - you’ll need all day long for it
Tuen Mun Park is more than a park, it features a park with a river by its side and a nice pond with birds residing, a playground like no others in Hong Kong, and guess what, a reptile house!
Let your kids bounce, run, climb, swing, giggle etc at the play area first. Of course the tree house with obstacles is a must do, but also don’t miss the other smaller fun like the net and trampoline. It’s a pity that the sand and water play area is now closed - look forward to it reopening after the pandemic!
When your kids are exhausted and sweating, take them to rest in the trees shade in the green park, then head to the air-conditioned and nicely maintained reptile house. Snakes, lizards, turtles etc stare back at your curious eyes!#familytravel
When leaves are falling 🍂🍂
Tuen Mun Park is the largest park in New Territories, about 12.5 ha. It's located by the side of the Tuen Mun river. It opened to the public in three phases from 1985 until 1991. One of the attractions is the reptile house. There are about 20 species of reptiles placed in indoor terrariums.
The location where this park sits now was originally part of Castle Peak Bay. After being reclaimed in the 1970s, it was used as a temporary housing area, before the park construction began. Other features are the Amphitheatre, the artificial lake, and Badminton&volleyball courts. It also has a canteen, a playground for kids, and a roller skating rink.
It was so beautiful when I went there. Gathering with friends, sitting under the tree, when the ground was covered by yellow leaves 🍂🍂. It's just amazing 🤩🤩.

Amazing pastries in Tuen Mun
If you’re a fan of cats and sweets like us, then @kuru.lab will be right up your alley 😻
We fell in love with their croffles last year when we stumbled upon this place for the first time after a challenging hike ⛰️ It’s a pity that they don’t do dine-in at the moment, so we had to spontaneously bring all our food along for a leisurely stroll ☀️
[𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐬]
Our favourite flavour was definitely the strawberry one, as the slight tanginess was refreshing and balanced out the sweet cream 🍓
The caramel banana one wasn’t fully covered in cream like the other flavours, so we were able to better appreciate the light flaky texture of the croffle itself 🍌
The muscat grapes were a little too sour for our liking, but luckily the chewy look-alike mochi candies were a delightful surprise 🍇
[𝐏𝐢𝐞𝐬]
We absolutely adored the pineapple pie, as the tropical fruit chunks delivered a great contrast in terms of texture 🍍
The apple pie looked a bit like Mount Fuji and reminded us of McDonald’s but better, as it was filled with creamy custard 🍎
[𝐍𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐤𝐞]
Made with Twinings earl grey tea, the ample cream had a subtle flavour and made a fantastic base for the crispy pastry, which was a little on the salty side. Just wish there were more figs inside each layer, instead of just only as a decoration on top 🥹
✨Tip: all cakes are made to order, so contact @neko.puff.hk at least 1 hour in advance

Another challenging hike in HK
Castle Peak (aka Tsing Shan)
Distance: 6.5km
Duration: around 4 hours
[Route]
Leung King Estate > Leung Tin Au > Castle Peak > Tsing Shan Monastery Path > Tsing Wun Road > Tuen Mun MTR
Although Castle Peak is the highest ‘Sharp Peak’ of the three, it’s not as challenging as the hardest Sharp Peak, simply because it’s not as long and there’s a lot of stairs along the way. But that doesn’t mean it’s a walk in the park!
We took the reverse route and started off with the harder part when going uphill as we wanted to visit a nearby cafe for lunch before starting. Personally think it’s easier this way as there were more stairs when going downhill.
At the peak, you can choose to go up the radio tower for a higher view point or not if you’re too tired and can’t be bothered.

Exploring remote areas in hk🔍Tuen Mun
The first photo taken from the Butterfly Beach. There are some cycling facilities nearby for people to move around. The beach is quite good.
The second and third photos are taken from Tuen Mun Chek Lap Kok Tunnel Interchange. Nice!!!
All the photos are taken from Tuen Mun!

Siam Thai Noodles BBQ (Tuen Mun)
We randomly came upon @siamthainoodlesbbq in the nearby cooked food market after a fun bouldering session at @justclimbhk in Tuen Mun 🧗♂️
Obviously, the environment was nothing fancy, but food was affordably delicious while the staff were super attentive, so we really enjoyed our dinner here 😋
[𝐇𝐨𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝟐]
The set basically included everything you could think of - beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, calamari, crab sticks, egg tofu, vermicelli and a huge bowl of veggies 🥗
We chose the black pepper pork bone broth over dong yum soup, which added a sharp distinct accent to all the ingredients - there’s also a dipping chilli sauce if you need extra flavor 🌶️
We were most impressed by the tender juicy texture of the boneless chicken, but it's not on the a la carte menu for some reason… 🐥
[𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐝]
The spicy Thai salad dressing was a little too numbing for me, but I still enjoyed the refreshing mixture of plump shrimps 🦐 , raw cucumbers 🥒 and tangy tomatoes 🍅
[𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐬]
The chilled fresh young coconut was super thirst-quenching and literally saved my burning tongue that I had to order two 😂 Remember to scoop out the sweet white jelly-like meat afterwards!
Glad that the iced milk tea was not as sugary sweet as expected, but still pleasingly authentic 👏🏻

Mouse Island Children’s Playground
When I told kids we are going to Mouse Island, kids thought we are going to Disneyland, well, I’m not surprise, as they are definitely associate the word Mouse = Mickey Mouse 😂 So, on a Sunday morning when Papa was heading to Tuen Mun for his weekly basketball time, we tagged along, and had him drop us off at Mouse Island 🏝 .
Kids LOVE it ! It’s a marine theme playground and the main equipment is in a sailboat shape, there’s lighthouse, decks, compass, telescope. Kids take turns being captain and sailor; playing catch, running up and down. There’s slides, climbing wall, bars, balancing blocks, 2 huge barrels to hang out in it.
A little background: Mouse Island Children’s Playground is Hong Kong first environmental friendly playground located in Tuen Mun, next to Siu Lin Court, play equipments and facilities are made of used vehicle tyres, plastic and other wastage.
Shaded: Not the play area but there are plenty of covered area with benches and tables
Refreshment: N/A
Toilet: nearest at Siu Lun mall (5mins walk)
Mommy : ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Kids : ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
How to get there:
- Walk across the road (approx 100m) from MTR Sam Shing light rail terminus
- Walk from MTR Siu Lun light rail stop (approx 200m walk)

Tuen Mun Park’s Chil
This is one of the most popular park in new territories, having children playground, reptile house and a beautiful greenery with man-make ponds. The children playground is Hong King’s first barrier free play area specially designed for children with different physical abilities.
Unfortunately, we went on a rather hot morning, kids can’t do the slides and the sand areas are closed due to the pandemic. BUT it didn’t stop us spending at least 2 hours here.
There are 2 zone at the playground, one to get wet (water Lily park) and another to work on your coordination (reptile zone).
Kids ran to the play at reptile zone first. There’s few part made up in reptile zone:
1. the reptile paradise which is the main play equipment with different levels of heights for the climbing nets, there’s balancing bridge and different slides for fun
2. the spinning and sensory area where various type of spinning and swaying equipment are set up next to the sensory walls
3. the huge sand pit and sand play table are closed but it definitely encourages creativity and children’s sense of touch
Swing area is another area right outside of the reptile zone featuring a net swing, classic swing seat and a parent-child swing.
After we’re done with the “hot and dry park”, kids ran straight to water lily park, especially the flower dew plaza which is a water play area providing splash pads and water cascade for them to enjoy the fun of playing with water especially on a hot summer. Do remember to bring extra masks and clothes for this!
Shaded: Not the play area but definitely some roofs, tables and benches for parents to chill.
Refreshments: vending machines or grab something from the mall next to the park
Toilet: public toilet right next to water lily park but it’s dirty and wet.. there’s a mall next to the park, approximately 10 mins walk.

Fantasy Coffee
Lovely lunch at a local coffee shop.
Ordered ice latte with oat milk and espresso tonic, it’s definitely refreshing on a hot sunny day.
Starter is stir fry wild mushrooms with black truffles. Fresh garlic used and onions sweeten the mushrooms, taste of black truffles are strong.
Main are smoked salmon spaghetti with creamy lemon sauce and a classic pepperoni pizza . Love the thin crusted pepperoni pizza filled with mozzarella cheese. And spaghetti sauce impressed me ! It’s refreshing and perfectly matches the summer vibe.
Cozy and clean environment to have a pleasant meal. Definitely coming back for more!

From Tuen Mun’s So Kwun Wat Tsuen, taking the Maclehose trails sec 10, follow the signs to Thousand Lake / Reservoir Islands Viewpoint.
We drove to So Kwun Wat Tsuen, where parking spaces are offered by the villagers for a price ($70 to $100). From here, it’s all paved road for about 45mins to 1 hour where you’ll reach a viewpoint with signboard showing another 1km to Reservoir Island viewpoint and a cubicle toilet next to it. If you’re travelling with young children or strollers, this may be your endpoint for the hike.
But if you want a better view! Keep going, the remaining 1km are pretty straightforward in the woods, there’s a clear path, just watch out the roots and rocks. When you see the signboard of Thousand Lake/ Reservoir Islands viewpoint, the stairs are right next to it, just climb up and keep walking. You’ll know when you arrived.
* Distance: approx. 7.7km round trip
* Altitudes: 296m
* Time: approx 2 hours 40 mins
* Toilet: Public toilet before the starting point at the village; then cubicle toilet after an hour walk
* Difficulties: ⭐️⭐️ (although mostly paved road, but it’s ascending/ inclines like 80% of the time)
* Scenic: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tuen Mun Trail to Lam Tei Resevoir
On a Sunday, few weeks ago, we explored the recently famous family hiking trail, the “rainbow railings” along Tuen Mun Trail and took the route to Lam Tei Reservoir.
The starting point is at the Maclehose Trail Endpoint, which is near the Ho Fuk Tong light rail station or Tuen Mun Town Plaza. Take a deep breathe and here we go ! Slowly hike up the stairs, enjoy the city view of Tuen Mun along Tuen Mun.
Honestly, the rainbow railings are alright, snap a couple of photos but it’s just... railings. What excites us are the route to Lam Tei Reservoir. We took a detour, lead my experienced friends. Please do follow the signs and cemented roads towards the reservoir.
Route: Ho Fuk Tong light rail station > Ho Fuk Tong College > Maclehose Trail Endpoint > Maclehose Trail Sec 10 > Tuen Mun Trail > Yuek Mung Yuen > Tuen Mun Trail Dec 2 > Fu Tei Barbecue area > Lam Tei Reservoir > Fu Tei Road
^ we then walk back to San Hui Station along castle peak road, passing Ling Nam University, Fung Tei Garden.
Difficulties: ⭐️⭐️ (certain level of physical strength is required for going uphill, many stairs at the beginning of the hike)
Scenic: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Average time: 3.5 hours
Distance: 9.6km
How to get there:
- Tuen Mun MTR station, walk or take the light rail and get off at Ho Fuk Tong Station.
If you had enough after the route ends at Fu Tei Road and walk about 10 minutes more ... hop on to MTR station near Lingnam University OR buses to Tsuen Wan/ Kwai Fong/ Mongkok at Brilliant Garden.

A popular neighborhood coffee shop in Tuen Mun has opened a branch in the V Walk shopping mall in Nam Cheong🏢
The area from the first floor to the shopping mall is spacious, with floor-to-ceiling glass and bright lighting👀
There are not only indoor seats but also outdoor seats, perfect for cold days🪑
The gray holes in the wall look like four cylinders itching to play mahjong 😂
Say goodbye to McGriddles and hello to bacon and egg pancakes🥓🍳🥞
The combination of salty and sweet is so delicious and I love it🤤

Japanese style garden style shop🌸☘️
This Japanese-style restaurant located in Tuen Mun has good quality food, and the environment should be quite Japanese-style! The entrance already has a Japanese garden style, great for taking pictures!
In terms of ramen🍜, the dried mussel crab white soup ramen and light sauce duck soup ramen are quite attractive. Dried mussels and crab white soup ramen, the soup is sweet and rich, full of dried mussels and crab freshness; light sauce duck soup ramen, the flavor of duck meat. The ramen noodles are soft and firm.

Saga Yakiniku Valley
Every once in a while, I get a craving for yakiniku. In the past year or two, I've noticed that many restaurants have significantly improved, with quality getting better and better. Recently, I dined at another high-quality yakiniku restaurant, where the quality of the meat and the selection of cuts were excellent. We opted for Level 3, an all-you-can-eat Australian Wagyu and seafood set, priced at $488 plus a service charge per person.
After trying it, I recommend ordering a few items at a time and then reordering as needed. The Australian Wagyu ribeye (marinated) had a great texture and rich beef flavor without being tough or greasy, making it easy to eat a lot without feeling overwhelmed. The premium Australian Wagyu brisket is best enjoyed plain to savor its natural beef flavor. For seafood lovers, there are plenty of options, including grilled whole Japanese oysters, large prawns, and whole abalone, all fresh and plump, becoming deliciously sweet when grilled. They also serve the trendy grilled eel, which is very tasty. Besides the items included in the Level 3 set, you can also order from the Level 1 and 2 menus, which offer a wide variety of choices. For an additional $38, you can enjoy unlimited Sapporo beer and sake.
In conclusion, aside from the quality of the ingredients, the service attitude of the staff is a major factor in determining whether a restaurant is high-quality. Having enough staff is already an advantage, but they also proactively help change the grill nets and recommend pairing certain meats with specific sauces, making the overall dining experience feel like great value for money.

The waffles are amazing.
A rare visit to Tuen Mun, of course, I had to check out this hidden gem of a dessert shop 🥴❤️ The shop is decorated with cute and lively cat dolls 🐱 Perfect for taking photos and selfies 😘 Cat lovers shouldn't miss this 😚
First, I tried the shop's recommended specialty waffle 🤩 Tieguanyin tea sauce mochi waffle ✅ You can choose from various ice cream flavors or fruit bowls to go with the waffle, very rich 😚 The plate even has cute cat drawings 🫶 Super sincere 🌟 The waffle comes in four large pieces, very filling 🤩 Two girls sharing it would be super full 🤭 It has large pieces of mochi on top, chewy and delicious 😋 On the side, there's a fragrant Tieguanyin tea sauce, adding a unique flavor ❣️
Additionally, I ordered a molten chocolate cake and a caramel custard ❤️ Both were beautifully plated 🫶 The molten chocolate cake was served warm, with rich and aromatic flowing chocolate inside 🤤 The outer chocolate cake was fluffy and delicious, full of flavor 😚 The caramel custard had a thin, crispy caramel layer on top, with a smooth and delicate custard underneath, making it hard to stop eating 😆
I also chose a special drink of the day, Blue Sky and White Clouds ☀️ The presentation was beautiful 🥰 It was refreshing and light, with a hint of apple fragrance, perfect with the desserts 👍
