Many people travel to Luoyang, Datong, and Yecheng to explore Northern Dynasties stone carvings, unaware that in Xiaosongfo Village, Zhaipo Town, Xinxiang County, there is a national treasure praised by experts as the "crown of Central Plains"—the Ximing Temple carving stele. This 4.8-meter-tall Northern Wei backscreen-style carving stele (the largest backscreen-style stele I have seen) is part of the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. It is the largest single carving stele remaining in Henan and represents the history of Buddhist art fusion during the Northern and Southern Dynasties. The entire stele is carved from a single piece of bluestone. Its pointed peach-shaped giant flame halo is imposing. The front features the standard Western Three Saints: the central figure is Amitayus Buddha, flanked by Guanyin and Mahasthamaprapta bodhisattvas, each supported by auspicious beasts beneath their feet. The carvings show typical late Northern Wei style, with distinctive delicate bone structure and elegant robes with wide sleeves and flowing belts. Compared to the early Western Regions’ “Cao clothing flowing water” close-fitting carving style, here you can clearly see the complete localization of Buddhist art. Above the halo are flying apsaras, transformed Buddhas, and dragon-phoenix patterns. High relief and shallow engraved lines intertwine, with intricate and exquisite details, showcasing the superb craftsmanship of Northern Dynasties artisans. Careful visitors will notice that the heads of the Buddha and bodhisattvas were restored and re-carved in later periods, as the original heads were damaged long ago. The old and new marks are clearly distinguishable. This stele also has a moving story. During a difficult era, local villagers, to prevent the stele from being completely destroyed, painfully broke it into pieces and buried it on site for safekeeping. For decades, the villagers kept this secret. When the situation stabilized, they voluntarily led cultural relic workers to excavate the fragments and piece them back together, allowing the millennium-old stele to see the light of day again. The stele bears an inscription from the Yuan dynasty’s eighth year of Dade, believed to be a note by later Yuan descendants. This single stone stele connects over a thousand years of human faith. 📍Address: Ximing Temple, Xiaosongfo Village, Zhaipo Town, Xinxiang County, Xinxiang City, Henan Province 🎫Admission: free ⏰Recommended visit duration: about 1 hour 🚗Transportation: self-driving recommended, use navigation 1️⃣ Ximing Temple also serves as Xinxiang County’s museum of stone carving art through the ages. Besides this carving stele, there are 26 other stone carvings from various periods. When we visited on August 9, 2026, during the flood season, the room housing these 26 carvings was closed. The temple was empty, and no one was available to open the door, which was a bit disappointing. However, the pavilion housing the Ximing Temple carving stele was open as usual, without noisy tourists, making it ideal for cultural and museum enthusiasts to quietly appreciate the stone carving details; 2️⃣ There are few nearby facilities, so it is recommended to bring drinking water in advance. Bottled water for offerings is also available inside the temple and can be taken if you are very thirsty. 3️⃣ Ximing Temple is also a religious site. The main hall enshrines Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva, and the courtyard contains statues of the Eighteen Arhats. Compared to the crowded famous grottoes, the Ximing Temple carving stele carries a unique tranquility of a rural ancient site. Without excessive commercialization, when you stand before the more than 4-meter-tall bluestone stele and touch the flowing millennia-old robe lines, you can understand the artistic transformation of Silk Road civilization’s eastward spread and Buddhism’s localization in the Central Plains, as well as feel the sincere dedication of ordinary people who have protected this national treasure across generations. If you are passionate about Northern Dynasties stone carvings, this lesser-known national treasure is definitely worth a special trip.

Free! Free! Important things said three times 🎉 (Though no reservation is needed, smart me still suggests calling ahead to confirm just to be safe~) 📍 How to get there: Address: Dazhaoying Town, Xinxiang County, Xinxiang City, Henan Province (Just search on your GPS and you’ll get there, perfect for those who aren’t great with directions!) 🍖 What to eat after visiting: You must try Xinxiang’s top local dish — Red Braised Lamb! Top Attraction Recommendations · Luoyi Ancient City, Luoyang Old Town District 📍Address: G234 (Xingyang Line), Xinxiang County, Xinxiang City, Henan Province The existence of this ancient city helps you understand the choices of history. Pushing open the city gates and stepping into the wrinkled old alleys, terracotta figures stand quietly in the museum. Walking into the exhibition hall to see the pottery figurines feels like passing through a time tunnel. The indoor lighting is soft, while outside, trees sway in the wind. The distant views on a sunny day make you a bit more forgiving of people and the world. Every story here reminds us: a choice isn't just a result, but a deeper understanding. · Xinxiang Shopping Mall This is a microcosm of modern life. Whether you want to pick up some knick-knacks or find inspiration for your daily life, you can find a moment that belongs to you. As the air flows through the bustling mall, it makes you realize that while you crave freedom, you also need stability. Walking through the mall and watching the crowd outside through the glass, in this moment, you really want to remember every silent revelation. · Bounce Era Trampoline Theme Park (Daoqing Road Branch) 📍Address: West side of the street, 100 meters south of the Daoqing Road and Jinger Road intersection ⏰Hours: Mon-Fri 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Sat-Sun 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM This is the perfect spot to blow off some steam and find the joy in life. In the moment you leap into the air, only the wind knows how you feel. The trampoline park shows us that some choices don't need a reason; the body naturally chases that feeling of lightness. The facilities are top-notch and great for bringing kids along. When you're tired, you can grab a drink in the rest area and slow down the pace. · Xinxiang People's Park 📍Address: No. 65 Jiankang Road, Hongqi District, Xinxiang City, Henan Province ⏰Hours: 6:00 AM - 10:00 PM 🎫Tickets: 37.5 RMB This massive park is like the beating heart of the city. On a sunny day, the close-up views of the flowers and trees look like a painting, with an occasional outdoor pavilion tucked into a corner. You can just sit on the ground, watch kids running in the distance, and under the sunset, all your life's questions seem like they don't need immediate answers. The air, the shadows of the trees, and the scent of flowers here give everyone a reason to find peace, making every visit feel like signing an honest contract with the world. Itinerary Tips Sometimes, we fail to understand the life choices others make simply because we haven't seen the scenery they've witnessed. Everyone's choices are their contract with the world, and traveling is the most honest witness to that. As you wander through different places, don't rush to judge or even to understand—just take that first step, and you'll naturally come to understand the unspoken answers. Transport & Food Recommendations There are plenty of local Xinxiang restaurants around Luoyi Ancient City. Highly recommend trying authentic Henan street food in the old town area, like Hui Mian (braised noodles) and Hu La Tang (spicy pepper soup). Inside Xinxiang Shopping Mall, there's a food street perfect for grabbing a bite while you shop. Near Bounce Era Trampoline Park, you'll find fast-food options like juice bars and fried chicken joints; there are also local food stalls right at the entrance to the People's Park. It's recommended to rent a car or use ride-hailing apps to hop between attractions. The distances within the city aren't huge, but walking can be quite time-consuming. Practical Destination Tips 1. The exhibition hall in Luoyi Ancient City is rich in terracotta artifacts, perfect for a slow stroll. It's a good idea to check the exhibition schedule in advance. 2. The park is less crowded in the early morning and late evening, making it ideal for photography and quiet meditation. 3. The trampoline theme park gets busy on weekends and requires advance booking, so plan ahead and stay safe. 4. Operating hours for some brand stores in the shopping mall may vary slightly, so check ahead of time. Every spot is a microcosm of life's choices—why not use travel to observe and experience them with all your heart? After all, some words are only meant for the wind to hear, and some answers can only be found once you've seen the scenery for yourself.

May every journey you embark on be met with kindness, and may every room you stay in be filled with care and cleanliness, not for compromise, but for enjoyment.

Want to escape to the mountains this weekend? Yongquan Town in Tongling, Anhui, holds delightful surprises—by day, wander through a sea of azaleas and green fields like a fairy tale; by dusk, soak in hot springs while waiting for fireflies; by night, gather around bonfires munching on crayfish, as time slows down. This 2-day guide helps you pack all the romance and lively atmosphere of spring into one trip~ 🌿 Day 1: From the Old Town’s Charm to Hot Spring Starlight Afternoon: Stroll and Snack in Town, Relive Childhood The main street of the town feels like it’s been paused in time: lanterns hang from branches, new leaves shimmer in the shade. During the day, there’s a “Nostalgia Performance” where NPCs dressed in 1980s attire sell popcorn and play marbles. Sitting on stone benches under the old locust tree, you can read comic books for free, instantly transported back to childhood. Don’t forget to stop by Baiyu Bridge—water lilies are just budding, ducklings and mandarin ducks play in the water, and the bridge’s arch reflects the blue sky and white clouds, looking like a watercolor painting. Evening: The Flavor of Jiangnan and Lively Atmosphere In the Jiangnan Flavor Street, you pay with copper coins (exchanging is super convenient). We recommend Grandma’s Firewood Pot Rice—the big iron pot rice is fragrant with a crispy crust, paired with stir-fried shredded pork and pickled mustard greens, so delicious you’ll want two bowls; in summer, be sure to order the spicy crayfish (68 RMB/serving) with Yongquan’s homemade beer (15 RMB/glass), the spicy heat will make you sweat and feel alive. After dinner, head straight to the bonfire party where villagers and tourists gather around the flames singing and dancing. Someone plays guitar, others clap to the beat, strangers exchange smiles, and all worries are chased away by the firelight. Night: Starry Sky in the Hot Springs Jiubao Hot Springs is hidden in the forest, with a dozen outdoor pools steaming. Choose a pool near the trees, soak in 38°C water while gazing at the stars, and occasionally a firefly flies past, like stepping into a fairy tale. After soaking, go to the rest area for a cup of ginger tea that warms you to the core. 🌸 Day 2: Spring Stroll in the Sea of Azaleas Morning: Romantic Highlights of the 12 Scenes of Yijiangnan The Yijiangnan Scenic Area is the main attraction! The azaleas are in full bloom, covering the hills in red, with ancient twisted tree branches weaving through. Walking on the cloud ladder (no climbing effort needed, very easy), it feels like entering Alice’s Wonderland. · Photo Tips: Wear white clothes and stand on the flower slope, have a friend shoot from below to capture flowers, trees, and distant mountains all in one frame; pick a petal and hold it near your nose for a natural and lively candid shot. · Check off the 12 scenic spots along the way: “Naihe Watchtower” looks like a castle, and from the top you can overlook the entire flower sea. When the wind blows, the waves of flowers ripple beautifully, breathtakingly stunning. Afternoon: Another Stroll on Main Street, Take Some Spring Home Before leaving, stroll the town’s main street again and buy some handmade pickled vegetables (20 RMB/bottle) and kudzu root powder (35 RMB/bag) as souvenirs—both carry the mountain flavors. Sit by the street and enjoy a bowl of handmade wontons (10 RMB), watch sunlight filtering through leaves onto the stone pavement, and leisurely wait for your ride, finally understanding what “carefree vacation” means. 🚗 Practical Tips: Easy to Go Anytime · Transportation: Drive and navigate directly to “Yongquan Town Parking Lot” (free); or take a taxi from Tongling High-Speed Rail Station/North Station, about 20 minutes (around 30 RMB). · Accommodation: Stay in a guesthouse inside the town (around 150 RMB per person), open your window to see the mountains, wake up to birdsong, and get free scenic area admission. · Tips: ✅ Jiubao Hot Springs is a public bath, remember to bring swimwear; ✅ Wear non-slip shoes in Yijiangnan Scenic Area; the cloud ladder is easy but the steps are a bit steep; ✅ Bonfire parties are livelier on weekends, don’t miss out if you want to join the fun. The magic of Yongquan Town lies in blending nature, childhood fun, and lively atmosphere—the passion of azaleas, the gentleness of hot springs, the warmth of bonfires all say: don’t stay home this weekend, come to the mountains and have a blast~
