[Kyushu Yanagawa] Eating eel rice in a steamer at a century-old restaurant, spring outing Hina Matsuri Festival
After disembarking at Yanagawa ~ Okinawa Pier
There are several old eel shops on both sides of the Taiwan Strait
Wakamatsuya, Folk Art Tea House Six Riders, Benjiya, etc.
We went to the most famous
After getting the ticket, I wandered around and waited for about 20 minutes for a table
Upstairs the traditional Japanese-style tatami
The set includes the most basic eel rice🤤
You can also order Dasheng or Extra Eel Rice for an additional fee
Steamed eel rice originated in Yanagawa, which is different from the way of yaki
Instead, the rice is first mixed into the secret sauce and steamed once.
Then put the grilled eel and egg strips on top and steam again
Come had to try the local steamed eel rice
And the rice - the secret sauce is perfectly steamed into the rice, like cooking rice
Moist and sweet covered with eel sauce, a little like sticky rice, very appetizing ~
The yuko eel in the shop is also worthy of praise🥚
It turned out to be Mi🐽Lin's recommendation, world-class eel rice
It's better than Nagoya's eel rice!
Although you are traveling, do not be stingy, order the tastiest and largest portion to eat
But this time I strongly recommend that you do not need to pay extra to switch to Dasheng,
Because it ✨package✨ is this portion for a reason,
✨ (Yagikawa day trip package bought by West Rail Tenjin
Includes round trip ticket to West Rail Tenjin and Yanagawa.
A set meal from 8 designated eel restaurants)✨
Switching to the special serve is really full to the throat 🤣!
Remember to check it out before you leave
Their Daughter's Day doll decorations 🎎
After your meal, go ahead and queue for the free bus🚌
(For those who bought the package, get on the bus and issue the end of the ticket)
Every right time (i.e. 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, 4:00)
There is a free bus back to outside the store
Or the package has a coupon discount to call 🚕 (DiDi) back to the station
(You can ask the clerk to call it for you)
Next stop we go to
(Tickets to Dazaifu are not included in the package
but you can take a bus to the Dazaifu Station ticket office to make up for it)
Or you can take the West Rail directly back to Tenshin💫
Overall, this eel rice is very characteristic.
And it was very delicious, there was a reason for the long queues
Personally, I think it's more worth trying again than Nagoya's eel rice

Experience the luxurious life of a feudal lord at the Yanagawa Domain Lord Tachibana Residence, Ohana
The 'Yanagawa Domain Lord Tachibana Residence, Ohana' was built in 1738 by the 5th lord of Yanagawa, Tachibana Sadatomo. Today, it has been transformed into a ryotei (traditional high-class Japanese restaurant) inn, still operated by the Tachibana family. During the Meiji era (1868-1912), the Tachibana family was granted the title of Count, and it was during this period that the foundation for the current appearance of 'Ohana' was established. Spanning approximately 7,000 tsubo (about 23,000 square meters), the entire area is designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty in Japan. Within the grounds, there are buildings such as the 'Western-style Pavilion' and the 'Great Hall' built during the Meiji era, as well as the 'Shotoen' garden adorned with pine trees, all preserving the appearance from 100 years ago.

Yanagawa is a city located in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, and a tourist destination famous for its beautiful canals and traditional boats. The most important thing to come here is to experience the local boatman's boat. Taking a traditional "boatman's boat", you can enjoy a cruise on the Yanagawa Canal and appreciate the beautiful scenery and traditional architecture along the coast. The most important thing is to see the skills of the boatmen. , every time they pass some super short bridge, they will jump on the bridge and then jump back on the boat, which is very powerful.

Yanagawa's "cruise boat" activity is quite famous. Experience the Joy of Boat Rides in Yanagawa, Japan's Venice!
Visiting Fukuoka in Kyushu, Japan, and want to explore traditional Japanese streets? Then you can't miss Yanagawa!
Yanagawa is a famous water city in Japan, with canals connecting every corner of the city, earning it the nickname 'Japan's Venice.'
How can you visit Yanagawa without experiencing a boat tour?
The entire trip takes about an hour, where you can enjoy the scenery along the roads while riding a small boat, feeling the unique nostalgic atmosphere of Japan. It's very relaxing.
The second stop is to taste the local cuisine, and Yanagawa is most famous for its eel rice!
On the day of the visit, we went to the local old shop 'Wakamatsuya.' There weren't many tourists, so no need to queue.
The interior decoration is full of Japanese sentiment, and the food is of high standard! Highly recommend the eel tamagoyaki.
Transportation: Take the express train from Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station to Nishitetsu Yanagawa Station, which takes about 50 minutes, then transfer to a bus to reach your destination.
📍Fukuoka Yanagawa
Fukuoka Yanagawa🛶Japanese traditional boat experience
Yanagawa💚 is a suburb of Fukuoka, located in the south of Fukuoka. It has a long river, 930 kilometers long. Cruise ships can often be seen plying back and forth on the river. I took a boat tour🛶. The boatman was wearing traditional clothes and holding a pole. He kept explaining the history of nearby places to tourists and could sing Japanese songs and interact with the boat passengers. All the tourists enjoyed themselves on the boat. Finally, the boatman allows tourists to experience punting and take photos. The Yanagawa cruise takes about 1 hour to 1 and a half hours. The embarkation point is near the train station, and after disembarking, the boat operator will arrange a free shuttle back to the starting point. Yanagawa is famous for eel rice. We tasted a traditional eel rice bowl and completed our half-day trip in Yanagawa.
If you are in the right season, you can enjoy cherry blossoms or red leaves. This attraction is highly recommended for families🧒🏻👧🏻 and couples👫.

Departing from Fukuoka Tenjin, take the Nishitetsu "Suito" train🚊 to the water city Yanagawa. I boarded the boat, and the boatman sang folk songs as he punted the boat. He shuttled through the criss-crossing waterways, with water flowing from house to house and poplars hanging from every house, feeling the customs of the water town. The boatman will also perform a show of jumping onto the bridge and then jumping back off the boat, which will amaze the tourists. I especially chose #daughter's day to visit. There is a girl's day🎎 #limited time water cruise festival🪅 event, which enriches my Yanagawa itinerary.

Fukuoka | Yanagawa Cruise Unique Experience 🚣🚣
Come to Fukuoka in addition to shopping and eating good food, but also like to go around to surrounding attractions, this time went to Yanagawa, Dazaifu day trip, in the West Railway Tenjin buy Dazaifu package (very early to the station to buy), set Tickets include tickets to Dazaifu, Yanagawa, Tenjin car rolls and cruise tickets, adults cost 3340Yen, share with you!
Because one day to visit both Rukawa and Dazaifu, and the shopping street of Dazaifu usually closes at 5 pm, so we arranged the morning boat ride to Yanagawa after eel rice, followed I went to Dazaifu first.
🚣Satsuki Boat Yard where it will have some very distinctive hats that you can pay to rent, we and the other passengers of the ship are available, so we don't have one.
The whole boat ride takes almost an hour, because it introduces many different attractions along the way, such as some kappa statues, photo-taking monuments, different plants and flowers, buildings and art galleries along the way. It was April when we went, and there were cherry blossoms to see🌸
Along the way, we passed the water market, you can help out, we bought a strawberry ice cream 🍦 is also good 😌
The boaters will entertain guests while singing and will talk about history, the atmosphere is good, and will be carefully reminded to be careful of head bumps, because the bridge bottom is short when crossing the bridge, easy to hit heads.
If you have time, I recommend you to feel the beautiful scenery of the water town🩷. It's like a postcard!
💰Average consumption per person: 3340Yen

Canal-side Charm and Culinary Bliss in Yanagawa
#japantrip
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Yanagawa, a historic town nestled in the heart of Kyushu, and was captivated by its enchanting canals and mouth-watering cuisine. A leisurely boat ride along the winding waterways revealed a tapestry of traditional architecture, vibrant greenery, and warm hospitality.
The highlight of my visit was savoring the local specialty, Unagi Seiromushi - a delectable fusion of grilled eel, flavorful rice, and subtle bamboo steam. This hidden gem is a must-visit destination for those seeking an authentic and unforgettable experience. Come for the canals, stay for the cuisine, and leave with memories to cherish.
Yanagawa 300-year-old store|Original Motoyoshiya Main Store · Special steamed eel rice
Eight days and seven nights trip to Fukuoka
One of them arranged a trip to Dazaifu and Yanagawa!
A must-try when you come to Yanagawa is the eel rice, and although it’s expensive, being able to eat the specialty steamed eel rice at a shop with a history is highly recommended.
There are many Yanagawa Eel Rice, but not all of them are open every day, and because we went on the cruise first, it was relatively late after the boat, most of the shops had to queue, in order to eat to delicious eel rice, so we chose a shop that has to wait in line - the original Benjiya 🫶🏻
This is the main store of Benji House, which has been around for more than three hundred years. The store is located by the river, and if you sit by the window you can see the beautiful scenery.
Since it was already relatively late when we arrived, some of the meals were sold out although we only had eel rice in the store, but we were thinking of eating eel rice, so it was OK Very simple, want to eat more eel will be more expensive, eel rice compared to the Japanese cuisine we eat is relatively high price level.
I ordered the Teせいろ蒸し set meal, which comes with eel cold plate, eel liver soup, white rice and pickles Friends who have to watch it 🫡 If it is too compact, it is recommended to avoid it, but it came to Yanagawa, I think I have to try it anyway, but I can visit Dazaifu a little later.
The thing is that this kind of eel rice is really unforgettable to eat, first grilled and then steamed cooking technique, so that its sauce has a kind of smoky taste, the rice absorbs all the sauce is very tasty, so of course it will taste It's more wet, I'm super satisfied after eating it 😋😋😋

Yanagawa ⛲️ Water Mirror Painting
#fukuokaattractions
Yanagawa is a unique scenic spot famous for its beautiful waterway scenery. This river has a meandering character. The buildings on both sides of the strait are reflected in the blue waves, forming a beautiful water mirror picture.
Walking along the waterway, visitors can see long wooden pavilions and ancient bridges, and experience the rich Edo period style.
In addition, you can also take a cruise boat to leisurely shuttle on the waterway and feast your eyes on it. At night, warm lights light up on both sides of the Yanagawa River, playing the role of a romantic city night scene, as if you are in a quiet and simple water town, making people linger and linger in the beautiful scenery in front of you.
Yanagawa Yuga
When you come to Yanagawa, you must take a boat to enjoy the scenery and culture along the way. There is also delicious food at the disembarkation point. This time I chose Wakamatsuya for lunch. I had eel rice here. After eating, there is a free shuttle bus that you can take, which is quite convenient.

"Satsutsuki Boating Area" 🛶Roaming on the Yanagawa River by boat has a unique flavor🌸
🛶The entire cruise journey takes about 1 hour. After getting off the bus at Yanagawa Railway Station, staff will guide you to the boarding location of the shuttle bus. After boarding, all guests on the boat will be sent to the boarding location. The trip is very smooth. After boarding the boat, The captain will sing and explain the history of the route. There is a sales department in the middle, and after ordering, it will be delivered to the boat. The ice cream 🍦 and baked dumplings are super delicious.
🛶If you buy a West Rail cruise package, remember to take the shuttle bus to the boarding station without queuing up to buy tickets. You can just hand the ticket in the package to the staff to tear it away.
🛶The cruise experience is overall good, but you will feel a little tired after sitting in the back. In addition, if the temperature is low, it is best to prepare more scarves or hats. After completion, a special bus will take guests back to Yanagawa Station, which is worth a visit.

I originally wanted to watch the cruise ship in Yanagawa River.
I unexpectedly discovered that this Sanzhu Shrine is very easy to photograph! 😍
This shrine is very large, with a small Japanese-style garden pond.
It feels unique and very comfortable
There are small decorations in different colors on the washing table, which are very beautiful
There are also many torii gates in the shrine⛩️
Many local people come to this shrine to pray for their career, future, employment, and achievements.
If you want to have a smooth career, don’t miss it!
If you go on a cruise, you must visit here. It is right next to the place where you get on the boat, very close to it.

The most famous activity is to come here to experience the boat trip
There will be a dedicated boatman who will use the purely manual method
Paddle us and take us around the entire Yanagawa River
And the biggest attraction here is that
The boatman can actually sing Chinese songs!
The boatman seemed very enthusiastic throughout the whole process.
He always led us to sing Chinese songs
Singing while sliding on the boat
very interesting
Even though we don’t understand each other’s language
But I can still feel how friendly the Japanese are
I like this feeling very much~

In addition to eating eel rice when going to Yanagawa, the shrines here are very worth visiting!
Although this shrine is not big, it is definitely more special than other shrines
There is a big smiling mask at the entrance of the shrine
The locals say this is the face of happiness
There are less people here and it’s very peaceful.
I heard that the royal seals at this shrine are very beautiful.
It's a pity that I went there too late, it was closed
If you are interested in Goshuin again, you can do it earlier!
There is a small park next to the shrine where you can play on the swings

Yanagawa eel rice "Original Motoyoshiya"
When you come to Yanagawa, "steamer eel rice" is an absolute must-eat.
The original Motoyoshiya has a history of more than 300 years and claims to be the first restaurant in Japan to introduce steamer eel rice. Steamed eel rice is made by mixing white rice with the exclusive secret sauce and putting it in a steamer. Then it is topped with kabayaki eel, shredded egg and other ingredients and steamed together. The steamed eel is soft and tender. Steamed with white rice, the umami and aroma are perfectly attached to the rice. In addition to the "Steamer Eel Rice" restaurant on the left, the restaurant also serves "Kabayaki Eel Rice" grilled with sauce.
The original Honyoshiya Okida store is located on the Yanagawa River, and you can see cruise ships passing by from the window.
Looking forward to going to Yanagawa again in 2024.

Recommended one-day itinerary for strolling Yanagawa
Known as the Venice of Japan, the eel capital, this is how I realized it after visiting Yanagawa.
Yanagawa City, which is run through by winding rivers, has unique lake and riverside scenery. Strolling through the streets of Yanagawa, you can feel the enthusiasm and comfort of rural residents.
Food recommendations:
1. Motoyoshiya eel rice (the interior decoration is very Japanese-style, and the eel rice is also very delicious)
2. Tachibana Udon (the decoration is also very ancient Japanese-style, which I have never experienced before in Japanese cities. The udon is also very delicious, and it is a restaurant where many local residents dine)
Recommended attractions:
Sanzhu Shrine: There are eel-shaped souvenirs inside, which are very cute and have local characteristics. The shrine itself is also very large, antique, magnificent and beautiful.
River and eel rice goes well !
Walk along the canel or take a boat ride which I think makes it more interesting. The boat ride is worth it (1800 yen per pax) esp if you have kids. It’s quite long about 40 minutes. U can admire the trees and houses along the canel. I think the trees should look nicer in spring unless it is snowing in winter. Eel is a specialty in this city. It’s not cheap $20sgd for a mini portion but worth trying. Overall a 3/5 itinerary.
Mihashira Shrine in Yanagawa

My impression from my visit is that it is definitely the No. 1 shrine in Yanagawa City.
This is a quiet place to visit, nice for strolling about to check out the park and grounds. It is located at Kimon, northeast of Yanagawa Castle, and was built in 1826. The precincts are very large and are a famous spot for cherry blossom viewing, and there is also a ferry terminal behind the shrine for boat rides down the Yanagawa River.Don’t miss it if you come to Yanagawa.
