Visited Yunhe Terraces during the May Day holiday and organized a practical and easy-to-remember travel guide based on the sightseeing route. May is the water storage period for Yunhe Terraces, and the terraces are basically filled with water. If you catch the sunrise, you can see the sun reflected in the water, which is said to be especially beautiful. Only had one day, a round trip from Lishui on the same day, so didn’t see the sunrise. 【Travel Route】 You can drive into Yunhe Terraces, but if you don’t have a car, you can use the cable car and shuttle bus within the scenic area. Since we didn’t drive, we bought a package ticket including entrance, cable car, and shuttle bus. 1. Jiǔqū Yúnhuán Area: First take the cable car up to the Jiǔqū Yúnhuán area, which is the most beautiful part of the entire terrace landscape and the core scenic spot of Yunhe Terraces. ↓ 2. Qīxīngdūn Area: Continue taking the cable car from Yunhe Terraces to the terminal station Qīxīngdūn, the highest point in the scenic area. There is a large viewing platform overlooking the entire area. There’s a coffee shop, lawn, and swings. The coffee shop has an amazing view, perfect for taking photos and enjoying a cup of coffee to rest. ↓ 3. Báiyín Valley Area: Walk down from Qīxīngdūn, about a 1-hour hike. It was rated by National Geographic as "China's Most Beautiful Terraced Fields," and it’s truly not a photo trick! When the first ray of morning light pierces through the sea of clouds and shines on the layered terraces, I feel all those late nights and overtime work are completely healed in that moment. 1. Why is it called "China’s Most Beautiful"? These terraces are more than just land; they wind from the foot of the mountain all the way to the top, with over 700 steps and a vertical span of more than 1,200 meters, earning the name "Thousand-Layer Terraces." The sunrise and sea of clouds are legendary! Many people arrive as early as 3 or 4 a.m. just to witness the moment the sun bursts out from the clouds. The golden light spills over the water-filled fields like shattered mirrors. The impact is so stunning that no phone camera can capture it—you have to see it with your own eyes! Arrive at Jiuqu Yunhuan by 4 or 5 a.m. Watch the sky change from pitch black to deep blue, then to orange-red, with clouds rolling beneath your feet and distant mountain villages faintly visible. Don’t rush after the sunrise; the morning light is perfect for photos. Walk along the ridges into the terraces, surrounded by healing green. If you have energy in the afternoon, take the cable car up to Qixing Dun.
