Satisfactory 1-night stay here, as I've come to expect from Holiday Inn Express locations. Car parking arrangements (£10 charge) work well, staff are helpful, and breakfast is varied & filling.
Free upgrade from a double room to a family room (consists of a separate double room, a single room and one toilet / shower) in a big room. Free onsite parking.
Dinner deal was very great, 2 mains for £15, and big portions! Free welcoming hot drink was available too.
The shower water is hot, yet the water pressure is weak (perhaps it is a ”water-saving” style?)
Hot items of breakfast buffet was great, esp. the mushrooms were very big, with free refill filter coffee and tea. It'd be good if there are yogurt and more varieties of bread.
Just 5 minutes drive to town centre / train station.
We stayed only for two nights. I guess the hotel is very old and the floor is very uneven. Whole room is slanted to one side. Kind of weird but ok. We tried the hotel restaurant and the food was very nice. Parking is also quite secured.
Easy to check in. Single room has plenty of space. Great choice for breakfast. Very helpful staff. Close to everything, from the sights of Spalding to great places to drink and eat.
The breakfast was basically good, but there seemed to be a lack of supplies on the weekend morning, no coffee and juice. The hotel is suitable for self-driving and parking is convenient, but charges apply. Close to the airport, but due to very few flights, very quiet
The hotel in the golf course is so affordable and good value for money. The room is like a nursing home room remodeled, with many elderly safety facilities. The building is very new.
The staff were friendly, and the check-in and check-out process was simple. The self-service breakfast was plentiful and hygienic.
The hotel lobby was comfortable, with a bar where you could enjoy a drink in the evening while watching sports or tv shows.
The room was clean and tidy.
The parking lot charges a fee, but I arrived on Saturday night and was able to park on the street for free until Sunday, so it wasn’t much of an issue.
Overall, the value for money was excellent.
We choose this hotel as it was close to where our friends live. We booked 3 double rooms and even though we weren’t in them for long, they were lovely and clean. Staff weee super nice and friendly
The location wasn’t too bad as we could travel to where we wanted to go. The windmill was a great place to eat and for a good price too.
Northgale, the best and warmest in Skegness.
“Tea or coffee,” was the owner’s first greeting when we met. Then she patiently showed me the rooms and let me make my choice. Then I got welcome wine. It’s too sweet, and I sleep very well. I really love it.
It’s hard to say goodbye to the owner's family. I loved their kindness and warmth. They offer the best price with the best service. Come and try; you’ll agree with me.

GGuest UserThe photos in description are outdated. Was pleased to receive the funky interior & garden upgrade, but I had half anticipated it. It’s The Hayloft- it’s quirky & cool. It takes 12 people and is also marketed on other sites as dog friendly.
It was not ‘immaculate’ as heading. Needed to wipe down the kitchen and wash a fair bit of crockery to feel comfortable. Corners, skirtings, mirrors, light fittings etc need some good deep cleaning asap but I felt beds, oven were clean. I’m not hot tub confident and I wasn’t with this one; it was open on arrival & made my eyes sting, so that was short lived- but other reviews note contact with owner sorted any problem quickly- we didn’t contact. The postcode is correct but there is no signage or directions offered. I thought it was a barn at owners residence (Glebe Farm) but now I think not. There are a few neighbours and houses at the end of the ‘mud track’ and they are keen to respect this. The email address gave me no response when I was encouraged by Travelnest (the agent) to make contact with owner. I later phoned the mobile and had a chat, but still needed to request a key code on the morning of arrival. I did have low confidence in the booking, with such little communication- but there was no need (he has 3 holiday lets) and this did tick the box we needed (1 night only). We had a nice time and a few extra hours granted by the owner was really appreciated. Having read other reviews, I can see that the owner responds to feedback and actions suggestions which is positive.
SSamThe staff were friendly and the actual hotel was quite elegant. The grounds were amazing, and there were plenty of lovely places for photos with colourful flowers. We ate dinner in the hotel and the presentation of the food and the quality was excellent. The steak was cooked to perfection. The mushroom risotto wasn't quite as good as it had some crunchy bits of rice in it. It needed about 10 minutes longer on a slow heat, and then it would have been perfect; as it wasn't that hot either.
This hotel boasts that it has a spa, swimming pool, and lots of different spa room experiences. Normally, when you use the leisure facilities connected to the hotel that you're staying in, they provide towels free of charge.
Not this one. We walked over with our swimwear and room key card to be told that towels were £1 each. We explained that we didn't bring a wallet, money, or a phone to pay with. We asked if they could charge it to our room. They couldn't!! They said that you can use the one in your hotel room or walk back to the hotel reception and they'd give us them. Not helpful at all.
Then, we went in to find the two foot spa's didn't work, and when I said it to the leisure centre manager, his reply was ' I know as I reported them last week'. But not a sign on them to say that they weren't working!
Overall, the hotel needed a bit of a spruce up; but they made up for it with friendly staff.
We paid to play a 9 hole game of golf and the staff in the golf shop was amazing.
DDaniel069As a solo traveler, I felt right at home at The St. James Hotel. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with any request. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the amenities were top-notch. The hotel's central location made it easy to explore Grimsby's attractions and local cuisine. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.
JJazchazStaff were good at check in and were polite, however when another guest caused us problems and I could have escalated it a lot further, the staff didn’t really want to know or seem to care, weren’t helpful or very empathetic I had to contact trip to get resolved. It ruined the weekend away and it made me want to also leave early it really wasn’t a great time away.
It was well located and had a fuel station nearby which stocked plenty of food choices and a Greggs even ! Location was good for transport ample parking too.
The cleanliness was overall a 50/50 there was dust where perhaps there shouldn’t be lampshades top headboard, was a tad dated but functional, and the bed was comfy. Bathroom was overall ok, modern in some areas others lacking a bit and looking tired.
Breakfast wasn’t too bad, but some bits I found weren’t to my own taste the bacon was odd to me but being a buffet type Ijust didn’t have it again, they did have pastry’s, cereal toast and condiments with drinks like juice, water tea coffee etc.

GGuest UserAfter a little confusion with the entry system to the room, it was mainly my fault for misunderstanding the message, but this was dealt with swiftly with a call to the 24 support number. Perhaps listing the entry process and room entry system under 2 clear, separate headings in the communications may have made it clearer. It was also implied that the parking bays were in some way numbered or identifiable with the room number, but this wasn't the case. Apart from those small things, both dealt with quickly the room was clean, a good size and offered plenty of refreshments & breakfast options for us. The shared spaces were clean and appeared welcoming. Bed was comfy and shower great, but curtains or a blind would have been appreciated over the thin net panel window covering which was present. Would definitely come back again, good distance from the castle - about 30 mins walk - good value for price paid
GGuest UserWe had a wonderful stay here previously and so returned for a night. This time it wasn't quite as pleasant. The toilet seat in the bathroom had a big crack in the lid and was more than just loose in the sense that it almost came off when sat on. The shower curtain was mouldy and uncleaned mirrors and cobwebs. The staff were all very pleasant and the bar and restaurant area were lovely. I did use the toilets at the bar. One was taken and the other 2 cubicles were soiled so maybe not checked as often as required.
Overall the room was warm and there was lots of storage space and a nice big bed. It wasn't unpleasant although I'd not be as keen to return again as I was last time.
GGuest UserAll the staff were friendly efficient and very helpful. The room was very clean spacious and beautifully decorated in keeping with the age of building yet and uncluttered contemporary feel. Room temperature was controllable and the provisions, TV etc. of excellent quality. Next time we would look to have dinner there as the breakfast restaurant was of the same excellent standard with everything beautifully cooked fresh, hot and well presented. We were able to park and this plus the location in Stamford made the stay very relaxing and enjoyable. A big thank you to Toni on reception who was very helpful and friendly.
