The hotel is nestled in the mountains, and the morning views from our rooms were absolutely breathtaking. On a few mornings with light drizzle, a mist swirled around the mountains, making it feel like we were living among the clouds. There was just one minor issue: the hotel initially wanted to charge 300 yen per person per day simply because it offers a public bath. As I’m not comfortable using such facilities, I didn’t visit the bath at all. However, at checkout, I was surprised to see an additional charge of over 1,000 yen for my family on the invoice. Although the amount was small, it didn’t seem fair to be charged for a facility we didn’t use. After I raised this concern, the front desk manager stepped in and kindly waived the fee. Aside from this slight issue, my stay was wonderful and thoroughly enjoyable.

Compared to Prince West, The Prince is much quieter and cozier. The room comes with a kitchen and the bathroom is spacious. Our room was on the first floor which opens directly to the outside, so when it snowed my daughter ran happily outside to make a snowman. There was a lounge serving drinks and wines, which all guests could enjoy, what I appreciated the most is the library setting with books to read. Service was phenomenal, the reception and all staff members were helpful.

**Transportation:** If you're taking the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, the bus drops you off at 'Hinamiyama Kogen' (Hinamiyama Highlands), directly opposite the hotel. You can also catch a bus from the same stop to Shinano-Omachi Station. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance or inquire at the hotel front desk. The hotel also provides a complimentary shuttle service, but please note the earliest departure is at 10:45 AM. **Luggage:** We forwarded our luggage directly from Toyama Station to the hotel. The price for this service has been increasing; as of 2025, it costs ¥4000 per piece. **Environment and Room:** We were assigned a twin room on the 2nd floor. It was very spacious and comfortable, featuring a small balcony with a lovely forest view. **Onsen (Hot Springs):** There are both indoor and outdoor baths, though neither is particularly large. After a tiring journey up and down the mountain, soaking in the hot springs was wonderfully refreshing and relieved all our fatigue. **Breakfast:** The breakfast spread offered congee, rice balls, and local Shinshu-specialty vegetable buns, alongside a variety of standard breakfast items, fresh fruit, and bread. **Power Adapters:** This hotel did not provide three-prong to two-prong power adapters. Interestingly, other hotels I've stayed at in Japan typically had them available.

The location is convenient, right inside the JR station. The bus to Togakushi Shrine is just downstairs, making it a great base for exploring surrounding cities from Nagano. The only downside is that the train tracks are right outside the window, so there's train passing bell noise and track vibrations. If you're sensitive to sleep environments, you might want to reconsider.

The room was very clean, conveniently located near the station, and offered easy access to the outlet at the South Exit. Breakfast was served in our room; it was well-balanced, nutritious, and very filling. The toilet and bathroom were separate, and the washroom area was spacious and spotlessly clean. The bed was also comfortable. I have absolutely no complaints. The price is more affordable than the Prince series hotels near the South Exit. If you're looking for good value, this is an excellent choice.

The price-performance ratio is great. The last time I went to Hokkaido, it was a bit expensive. This hotel has a free shuttle bus to and from Minami-Otani Station. The hotel is quiet and undisturbed. There are hot springs inside. The food is a bit simple. There are only one or two restaurants. Breakfast is included. Lunch is scheduled. Dinner is a buffet. If you have other questions, please leave a message~

An old-money style hotel. It's about a ten to fifteen-minute walk from JR station, just past the outlet mall parking lot. The hotel offers a free shuttle mini-bus to the station, running roughly every half hour during the day. We happened to visit during autumn leaf season, and the 'Maple Leaf Onsen' (hot spring) certainly lived up to its name – it was beautiful. We didn't have dinner at the hotel because it required advance booking. There were plenty of dining options at the outlet mall and near the station. The hotel also has a FamilyMart convenience store, and from what I saw, it was well-stocked and very convenient.

We had a wonderful stay at Mercure Nagano Matsushiro Resort & Spa. The hotel has a perfect balance of comfort, relaxation, and authentic local charm. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive from the moment we arrived, making check-in smooth and stress-free. Our room was spacious, clean, and offered beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Beds were comfortable, and the amenities were thoughtfully provided. One of the highlights was the onsen (hot spring)—a truly relaxing experience after a day of exploring Nagano. The spa area was clean, well-maintained, and never felt crowded. Breakfast and dinner at the hotel restaurant exceeded our expectations, with a great mix of Japanese and international options. The variety and quality of food made every meal enjoyable. The location is also excellent for sightseeing. Being close to Matsushiro Castle and other historic spots gave us a deeper appreciation of the area, while still being a short drive from Nagano city center. Overall, this resort is perfect for both families and couples who want to enjoy comfort, good food, and a true Japanese hot spring experience. We left feeling refreshed and would happily return again!

Right across Lake Suwa and walking distance to Kamisuwa station. Hotel compound was big. Loved the zen garden. Staff were extremely kind and helpful. Enjoyed the free outdoors foot bath, and the indoor onsen was huge. Wonderful stay overall. Do note that single rooms do not have lake views.

Booked a room here for 1 day just to explore matsumoto. this hotel was a pretty good distance to walk to the tourist attraction such as the matsumoto castle and nawate shopping street. loved that they offered free icecream or ramen between 8:00-10:00 pm. If you ever check out and you still have time before your bus leaves, you can also ask front desk to keep your luggage so you can be luggage free exploring. they were super kind and understanding with all the requests we had.

JJin Ki DadStaying at Shoho in Matsumoto was an unforgettable experience that truly deserves five stars. Nestled amidst the serene landscapes of Nagano Prefecture, this hotel seamlessly blends traditional Japanese elegance with modern luxury. From the moment we stepped into the lobby, we were enveloped by a warm and inviting ambiance that set the tone for the rest of our stay. Our room was a perfect sanctuary—spacious, meticulously clean, and adorned with subtle touches of Japanese artistry. The panoramic views of the Japanese Alps from our window were nothing short of breathtaking, especially when the mountains were bathed in the soft glow of sunrise. The traditional tatami flooring and comfortable futon bedding provided an authentic experience without sacrificing comfort. One of the standout features of Shoho is its exceptional onsen facilities. Soaking in the natural hot springs while gazing at the picturesque scenery was incredibly rejuvenating. The rotenburo (outdoor bath) offered a tranquil escape where the stresses of daily life simply melted away. The hotel's attention to detail extended to these spaces, with beautifully crafted woodwork and stone elements enhancing the overall atmosphere. Culinary delights awaited us at every meal. The kaiseki dinner was a masterpiece—a multi-course feast that highlighted seasonal and local ingredients. Each dish was artfully presented and demonstrated a profound respect for Japanese culinary traditions. The breakfast buffet was equally impressive, offering a wide array of both Japanese and Western options to suit all palates. The staff at Shoho went above and beyond to ensure our stay was exceptional. Their genuine hospitality was evident in every interaction, from assisting with our luggage to offering insightful recommendations on local attractions. Despite any language barriers, their kindness and professionalism shone through. The hotel's location is ideal for exploring the rich cultural heritage of Matsumoto. We were just a short drive from the iconic Matsumoto Castle, one of Japan's most beautiful original castles. Strolling through the historic Nakamachi Street with its classic white-walled storehouses turned boutique shops and cafes was a delightful way to spend an afternoon. In addition to its proximity to cultural sites, Shoho serves as a great base for nature enthusiasts. The nearby Kamikochi Valley offers stunning hiking trails that showcase the unspoiled beauty of the Japanese Alps. Returning to the comfort of the hotel after a day of exploration was something we looked forward to, especially knowing a soothing onsen soak awaited us. In summary, Shoho encapsulates the essence of Japanese hospitality. Every aspect of our stay was thoughtfully curated to provide comfort, relaxation, and cultural enrichment. We left feeling deeply refreshed and with a greater appreciation for the wonders of Matsumoto. Shoho is more than just a place to stay—it's an experience that lingers long after you've departed. We wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking an authentic and luxurious retreat in Japan.

JJACKETpotThe room looked a bit dated, but the amenities and service were excellent! It also had a mountain view and was very comfortable. NNuonuokafeiThe classic Karuizawa Resort Hotel, which has been passed down for more than 100 years, has been restored to its original state. It will welcome guests with a brand new look in 2024. There is a pick-up at the hotel's pick-up area at the south exit of Karuizawa Station. The car is parked a little inside and you have to look for it. There is a bus at 2:30 in the afternoon. If there is no bus, take a taxi directly to the hotel, which costs about RMB 60. The hotel's etiquette reception is impeccable. Every staff member is warm and friendly. The room is just the best time to live. It is brand new but no longer decorated. I booked a better room with a terrace than the basic room. I was given a corner room with large double-sided glass. The room is so beautiful. The terrace is quite small and I have never been out. The basic room of the hotel is also very large. There is no problem. Every room is comfortable to live in. It is recommended to include meals. Dinner is 16,500 yen plus 1,000 yen to upgrade the meat. The meat is tender and delicious. It is worth it! Every dish was delicious, the right temperature, the best quality. Breakfast was 5700 yen, not bad, but the quality was not as good as the breakfast in Nikko Jingu. The boiled egg was hard to open without an egg opener, the bacon was not crispy, and the toast was not toasted. I was a little disappointed, but the service was still perfect. The curtains in the room were very blackout, which was highly praised. There were many buses going to and from the station to go shopping at the outlets. It was easy to buy. There were all the big sports brands and the styles were new. In summary, I would stay here again if I went to Karuizawa.

OO.K. MACI’ve stayed at many ryokans throughout my travels—often making up half of each trip—but this one felt a bit different. It seemed to be run by just one person, who I assume is the owner. Everything was self-service, which might be understandable considering it was the most affordable option among the ryokans in the area. Most amenities required an extra fee, such as towels. Payment was made by dropping coins into a basket and making your own change, which wasn’t very convenient—especially since I didn’t carry much cash. One thing I appreciated was the luggage delivery service. I was able to leave my bag at the lobby before check-out and have it sent to Toyama Station (for about 4,000 JPY, cash only). What stood out was the creativity in the shared spaces. There were several common rooms designed for relaxing and spending time—perfect if you’re traveling with friends. You could play ping pong, read books, watch TV, or use the canteen, which had a microwave and dishes available. They even had coin-operated massage chairs and a small fitness room. However, I must mention two important downsides: 1. Limited nearby dining options – Many restaurants shown as open on Google Maps were actually closed. The only one that was open had extremely slow service—I waited nearly an hour for dinner. 2. Insects—large ones – Unfortunately, I encountered big insects in my room, which made it hard to sleep. (He even provided insect-catch tape for me while introduce the room) I stayed awake most of the night, worrying it might come back—especially stressful since I had to get up early the next morning to catch a bus to Ogizawa. Minds you, stairs only, need to carry your luggage down by yourself. Overall, while it offers good value for the area and has unique communal features, this ryokan may not suit travelers who prefer full service, cashless payment, or guaranteed comfort.

GGuest UserI stayed at this hotel for one night, and overall, it was quite a pleasant experience. I really liked my room — it was clean, modern, and comfortable. The only thing that surprised me was that the window to the balcony didn’t open, though I suppose it was designed that way. The onsen was absolutely wonderful — spacious, relaxing, and with a beautiful view of a mountain river. Definitely one of the highlights of my stay. The hotel also offers many different areas for leisure and entertainment. You can play table tennis, relax in cozy rest zones, visit small cafés and shops — there’s a lot to explore without even leaving the building. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, with a wide variety of food to choose from. However, due to the number of guests, it was a bit challenging for the staff to manage everything smoothly. On two occasions, someone almost took my table, even though I had already placed the reservation card on it to show it was taken. That said, the staff overall were very pleasant, friendly, and helpful, and I appreciated their attitude throughout my stay. This hotel is clearly family-oriented, with many families staying with young children. There are rooms with child-friendly designs and dedicated play areas, so if you’re looking for a quiet, adult-only atmosphere, this might not be the best fit. That said, I genuinely enjoyed my stay and would consider coming back.

HHanaLocation is great, it is just on the main road and by the lake. I remember there was a Lawon convenient store not far away when we drove past. We stayed there for 1 night. I highly doubt if we were given the wrong room type, as I booked a room that can see the full Suwa Lake, but the room we have got is at the corner. It is because of the cherry blossom season, there are so many mosquitos outside so we couldn't open any window. According to the information provided by the hotel, the mosquitos don't bite human, but create stains on clothings. Anyway, the room has a private onsen. It was quite small, and look a bit old. The water is very hot, though I couldn't smell any sulfur so it is not a real hot spring. As the windows can't be opened, so it is a quite stuffy inside the bathroom. The room has equipped with all amenities, but no bottled water. The hotel mentioned the water is drinkable from the tab. The room is quite clean and spacious. The mattress is quite nice, it was good for taking a rest after a whole day trip. We chose the meal package (breakfast and dinner). They were both Japanese style with a lot of dishes and options. Food is great. Nagano is not a place that produces meat, so mainly there are a lot of vegetables. With the price we paid for, the hotel services, food and everything is quite reasonable. However, the hotel is a bit old. Nothing is special other than providing a clean room to sleep.
