The Good:
You cannot beat the location. Being directly connected to Nagano Station is a total game-changer, especially if you’re hauling ski gear or catching an early Shinkansen. The rooms are spacious, quiet, and the staff is incredibly professional.
The Bad:
The breakfast buffet is the biggest letdown. While the quality of the food is fine, the menu is extremely repetitive. If you are staying for more than two nights, you’ll find the exact same selection of eggs, bacon, and local sides every single morning.
Verdict:
Stay here for the convenience and the comfort, but maybe skip the breakfast add-on after day two and explore the bakeries in the attached MIDORI mall instead.
Location: Near Nagano Station, right on Nagano-Odori Street, a 3-4 minute walk. However, Google Maps led us down a side road, making us circle around to its back entrance 😤
Room: Very clean, the sheets were dry and fluffy, very comfortable, but the room size is about the same as a typical Japanese business hotel 😊
Service: The staff always have a smile on their faces, truly living up to their reputation 👍. Yuri, who assisted us with check-in/out, was especially helpful; she called our next hotel to book a free shuttle, thank you so much!
Amenities: There are free hot and cold drinks and a microwave next to the lobby in the afternoon. Luggage storage is also available, very convenient.
I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Nagano.
Location is excellent right in the heart of the city and opposite the station. There's convenience store and Don Quijote 1 min walk away. Staff were generally polite and helpful.
Room is squeezy by design, can't open two luggages at the same time. Okay for short stay but not for long stay. It's not really a hotel to relax due to tight space in room.
This is our first time to ski Japan. This hotel was located perfectly with great access to some super beginning facilities. Good enough about skiing, the hotel is perfect and the staff is amazing. The food and amenities are excellent. We had a private hot spring every evening really added to the enjoyment. My wife and I and eight year-old daughter had a great time you so much for the great experience and all the hospitality Perfect Stay. 100%!!!
Great room and a convenient location, about a 5–10 minute walk from Nagano Station. The room was clean and the service staff were great. There were no convenience stores within a very short walking distance, or at least none that were very close to the hotel.
The main downside was that the room décor and setup felt quite outdated. I also did not really like the pyjamas provided, as the top was unusually long. Amenities were standard, such as toothbrushes. Given that we booked a Junior Suite, it would have been better to have more hangers provided.
Breakfast was enjoyable, and the desserts or pastries provided at the lobby were a nice touch.
The room was decent; I stayed on a newly renovated floor and had booked a larger room, which was very comfortable. The breakfast definitely deserves praise—the setting was lovely, facing the snowy mountains (it snowed heavily during our stay), and there was a wide variety of options, highly recommended. Oh, and the only thing that needs improvement is the cleanliness; the bedsheets were a bit dirty, but overall, it's still a great place.
The hotel provides a shuttle bus every half hour from the L'Occitane store at the Karuizawa Station outlet mall, which is very convenient. Staying in the West Wing, it's only a 10-minute walk to the outlet, making it ideal for families with elderly members and children.
The lobby has a convenience store where you can buy local specialties and snacks. There's a particular Karuizawa specialty chocolate that's delicious and not available on Taobao.
The hot springs are uncrowded and clean; we went every day during our two-day stay.
The room itself is pretty standard, but that's fine since you'll be out and about exploring most of the time, not spending much time in the room.
When checking in, you have to choose a breakfast time. I don't think it matters much if you don't stick to it exactly, but you'll still have to queue for a bit at the entrance. It gets quite busy in the mornings, but they manage the crowd very orderly.
For those traveling with elderly family members and children, I highly recommend staying in the West Wing – it's convenient for getting everywhere.
I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Kokusai 21. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable — I slept so well during my time there. The overall atmosphere was calm and relaxing, making it a great place to unwind after a long day. I’ll definitely come back the next time I’m in Nagano. Highly recommended!
I had a very bad experience this time, when I check-in, it seems someone else already took my room... and after more than 45 mins, they finally given me a room but a smoking room (I requested non-smoking) and it seems that they given my room to someone else... until now they did not tell me why they could not find my booking....
This was a last minute selection on the train from Tokyo, but the right one. It's a short 5 minute walk from the Nagano station and has spacious rooms. The staff is friendly and helpful, but best of all, on arrival you are given a welcome drink and dessert of your choice. The entire place seems to be obsessed with desserts, to my liking. They also provides free ice cream and upon check out, bags of candy and cookies. Maybe it's a Christmas promotion, but a welcome surprise. The breakfast is a bit expensive, but has a nice selection of food choices, including salmon, more desserts, and various Japanese food. I only stayed one night, but I believe they have an onsen and other amenities. Well worth it. I stayed in other hotels in Nagano, and this one was superior.

Great
I am a solo traveler who stayed in the room with private open bath. I enjoyed my 2 nights stay. Hotel looks tired and old but it was all good . Btw, you have to use a key to open the door not access card. I paid for my room with breakfast and dinner. I have a private dining space in a restaurant which I like it. Skip all queue and I dine at the same place for all meals. Dinner was great. Breakfast spread was wonderful too. I tried the one hour jap massage and it was so good. There isn’t anyone who can really speak English. The guests are mainly locals. There is free shuttle to check in and check out. Overall I give 9/10!!
We spent 6 nights at this lovely hotel run by kind people. It provided all everything we needed including good breakfast, clean room, bathroom (onsen) and above all kindness. I admire greatly the 82 years old granny who continues to help the guests and continue to learn English. The chef Masa cooks authentic French cuisine.

The hotel is really clean and quite spacious. The Airconditioning is centralized and we were there during winter so it’s on heater mode. The location is probably around 8-10min walk to Nagano station. They have coin laundry in the first floor. They have 2 pillows per bed, one firm and one soft.
The staff could speak English very well and patient to help us with the private onsen bookings. There was also a shuttle bus from Yudanaka station to the hotel. Hotel was located just opposite the photo spot which resembles the one in Spirited Away. Onsen eggs for sale at 100 yen are just outside the hotel. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious too. Love the private onsen too!
The hotel located in good location, with walking distance to the city center area where you can find shops, restaurants, or even Matsumoto Castle. Parking lot provided with fees but it’s quite convenient. The most favorite from this hotel is there’re plenty of amenities – shampoo, conditioner, shower gel from a lot of brands that you can select by yourself at the lobby.
Thank you very much for your hospitality this time. Although I checked in late, I was very satisfied with breakfast the next day, as well as the hotel cafe and sightseeing. I had a wonderful time at Mampei Hotel, a place I'd always wanted to stay at. The room was, of course, meticulously cleaned, and the staff were all polite and professional, as you'd expect. This is a hotel I'd like to return to every year, and would also like to recommend to my friends. All the food was delicious. Thank you for the meal.
We spent 2 nights in Prince after first 2 nights in Kusatsu onsen town. The hotel looked underwhelming on arrival and the front office service was efficient but cursory compared to the warm hospitality we had in the ryokan stay. It was low season and hotel was very quiet and had a ”cold” atmosphere. I was further disappointed when we were shown our room which was on the lowest floor with a simple garden view. On requesting the check-in staff for a change of room on higher floor and a more scenic view, I was told there is an upgrade charge, which I accepted. The new room was the same size and configuration but on a higher floor with a nice view of Mt Asama. While I was happy to pay the fee, I can't help but compare their practice with all the hotels that I have stayed in all these years, where room changes were complimentary so long as the room type remains the same. Nevertheless, the hotel's facilities delighted me immensely and I enjoyed the overall experience. The highlight of the hotel stay was the fantastic view of Asama in a high ceiling dining room with full glass window. We were able to have different table seatings for both morning breakfast as the hotel occupancy was low, which gave us different perspectives of the scenery. The other highlight of the hotel is the onsen facility which is located in a separate building on higher ground, accessible via a self service automated tram. Aside from Asama view in the outdoor onsens, there is a common lounge which has equally awesome view of Asama. We enjoyed our time soaking in onsen and resting in the lounge. Was I would go back to Prince Asama and experience the scenery during a different season!
