If you are looking for a unique experience, this is definitely the place to stay. One of the highlights of our trip to Pingyao was the host. They were incredibly kind, messaged us before we arrived in Pingyao, and even offered a free pickup service. They made sure we did not have to wait at the railway station. Their communication was always excellent, and they were very transparent with information. On our last day, the host asked for our train tickets so he could arrange the timing to drive us to the station, which was about a 20-minute ride away. Before we left, they even gave us homemade vinegar as a gift. It was such a lovely experience, and we felt so warmly welcomed throughout our stay. There are no words to describe how happy we were during our time here.

Before booking, I was most concerned about the air conditioning, and I finally got to experience it firsthand. Datong's heating supply runs until April 15th, a full month later than Tianjin. During the heating period, the hotel's air conditioning only provides heat, not cool air. So, contrary to what many online reviews suggested, I couldn't use the AC to cool the room and had to rely on opening the windows to alleviate the heat. However, I couldn't keep the windows open while sleeping, which left me feeling very dry and uncomfortable when I woke up. The first night of my stay was the second day of the Qingming holiday. When I showered that evening, the water pressure from the showerhead was pitifully low, so I had to make do with the handheld spray. Thankfully, the bathtub's water temperature was reliable. By the second night, with a drop in occupancy, both the breakfast service and the shower pressure were much better. The swimming pool is open from 6 AM to 9 PM. I feel it opens too early and closes too early. Wouldn't 8 AM to 11 PM be better? The hotel lobby is very spacious. Since Fenlin Pavilion is located in the Wyndham lobby, the Yungang side actually feels more upscale and grand. Fenlin Pavilion stops issuing numbers before 7:30 PM and closes at 9 PM. For lunch, they're open until 2 PM. Commercial facilities in Datong really aren't that competitive. There's no sliding door between the room's bathtub and the bed, so privacy is nonexistent. The omnipresent crystal chandeliers and mirrors give off a somewhat 'Middle Eastern prince' vibe. The sensor-activated nightlights near the floor get a hundred stars – they're incredibly convenient for midnight bathroom trips. Even a coffee machine and a refrigerator are provided. The breakfast's 'dao xiao mian' (knife-cut noodles) are a specialty, and the coffee is good. However, the dessert selection is meager, with only one or two options.

My stay at Futiandahua Rain Hot Spring Hotel was absolutely fantastic! First off, the location is superb, right inside the ancient city. It's super close to where they do the iron flower show, which, by the way, is an absolute must-see. I'm getting on in years, but watching that show brought tears to my eyes; I was so moved by the performers' dedication and the incredible spectacle they put on. It's clear the hotel owner pays incredible attention to detail. My two girlfriends and I stayed in a triple room, and from the moment we walked into the lobby, we were gushing over the hotel's ambiance, the staff, and the room's decor. Every little detail was thoughtfully done. Even when we were heading out to explore the ancient city, the front desk proactively offered us a pack of tissues to take with us. The room itself was a standalone unit, so it was incredibly quiet. They delivered coffee and afternoon tea daily, and the fruit plate in the room was fresh. There was also a cooler in the lobby with bottled water available for guests. The whole room was smart-enabled with XiaoDu (a smart assistant), and the shower had great water pressure and was very comfortable, with a separate wet and dry area. Oh, one small thing: the trash can in the bathroom was a bit too small; I hope they can improve that. The private hot spring was amazing. After a full day of sightseeing, coming back to soak in the hot spring and chat was just pure bliss.

Facilities: I spontaneously decided to fly to Taiyuan, booked my flight, and then immediately booked this hotel without much research or looking into it. I completely trusted Ctrip's recommendations, so I went with this one. When I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by how much value I got for my money. The hotel features smart-home amenities, and the front desk on the 40th floor, though small, is incredibly well-equipped, offering a laundry room, gym, and even a coffee bar. It's perfect for business travelers and families with seniors and children. Cleanliness: For this price point, I'm very satisfied with the cleaning standards. As a frequent guest at five-star hotels, if I had to be picky, I'd say the pillowcases and duvets could be ironed a bit flatter, haha. Environment: The location is excellent. After my flight, I took the subway to Taiyuan University of Technology Station and a short taxi ride. Taiyuan's Metro Line 1 is fantastic, comparable to new lines like Shanghai's Line 14! Service: The WeChat group service and concierge service were very responsive and accommodating. The afternoon tea pastries were quite good, too, heehee. ”Ultimate Enjoyment” Freshly Ground Coffee: The staff member was very friendly, and I tried a couple of sips of the coffee. ”Pleasant Enjoyment” Double Afternoon Tea: The small pastries were nice, and they were served with Pu-erh tea.

Pingyao Yundingxuan truly exceeded our expectations! This ancient courtyard, a former Shanxi merchant's residence, has an incredible atmosphere, perfect for amazing photos. The location is superb, right on West Street in the heart of the old town, within walking distance of 'Impression Pingyao' and all major attractions – super convenient for sightseeing and dining. The hotel offers free pickup and drop-off at the city gate, helps with luggage, and provides thoughtful and attentive service. They patiently explained sightseeing routes and even assisted with discounted bookings for 'Impression Pingyao' tickets, saving us time and effort. The rooms are clean and tidy, with soft and comfortable bedding. The courtyard is quiet and tranquil, making it a very reassuring stay for both elderly guests and children. The amenities are comprehensive, and the breakfast is authentic. It offers incredible value for money. It's definitely the top choice for family trips to Pingyao. Highly recommended; we'll definitely stay here again next time we visit Pingyao.

The hotel lobby is absolutely stunning. Day and night, you face the serene Huayan Temple and watch the crowds in the square. It got colder today, but the afternoon sun was pleasantly warm. Room: I stayed in the Huayan room, the closest one to Huayan Temple. The room looked exactly like the hotel pictures – what you see is what you get. My only minor gripe is that the window is a bit small and faces the replica eaves of the ancient buildings in the square. The details outside the window aren't great; there's an unpeeled protective film on the outer window and a thick electrical wire dangling outside. Facilities: The 'Xiaodu' smart assistant is quite good. However, casting to the TV requires using 'Meibo,' which is really inconvenient. The bathroom is excellent; both the overhead and handheld showerheads can be used simultaneously, making for a very comfortable shower. The faucet design is also great, and there's a thoughtful clothesline in the shower area. The hotel has a laundry room available until 9 PM. Service: I stayed for four days and met six staff members – three men and three women – all incredibly polite. You can tell their service is thoughtful: on the first day, I had knife-cut noodles for breakfast. I didn't mention I don't eat cilantro or green onions, but they disappeared from my breakfast dishes in the following days. The evening foot bath tub is very comfortable, and the foot soak sachet contains red dates, Sichuan peppercorns, and astragalus (couldn't identify the others). The hotel's sea buckthorn juice and astragalus water are also good. Yesterday, I overheard a guest at the front desk complaining about the service, but honestly, it's quite good. When you call, a staff member will always come up to help with luggage. Dining: Breakfast is a set meal, and after a few days, it does get a bit repetitive. However, the knife-cut noodles and rice vermicelli are good, and the siu mai is also tasty. I hope they can vary the side dishes and pastries in the future, maybe offer some fried dough sticks or something... I also have to mention the hot drinks at the front desk: the latte is much, much better than Starbucks, probably because of the quality of the milk. Transportation: Transportation is very convenient; it's easy to get anywhere. I'll definitely come back next time, and I'd like to try a duplex room, haha. It wasn't crowded on Monday, so I peeked into a few empty rooms, and almost every duplex was unique.

Cceciliasym 2026.05.13
Overall very good, the location is very good, there is a battery car to the park gate, walk a section to the Jinci Museum, do not need to walk all the way from the main entrance of the park. The environment is very good, the garden of the National Military Museum is very large, the fountain pavilion corridor has a small bridge lawn, and it can overlook the lake island of Jinci Park, like a fairyland. The service and dinner are also very good, the waiters are not very enthusiastic, but they are all polite, and the battery car responds quickly. Although the hotel is some years old, the room facilities are OK. The room is actually large in size. There is obviously a twin room space, but it is a waste to put a big bed. In the middle of the night, there are elderly people in the corridor ringing the doorbell and talking loudly to find the room affects sleep.

This is the most satisfying hotel I've stayed at during my trip to Shanxi. It's conveniently located, with direct bus access to Jinci Temple and Taiyuan Ancient City. There are plenty of dining options nearby. The hotel's service is absolutely top-notch, the room is clean, and it has both air conditioning and floor heating. Plus, they offer complimentary red wine and free airport shuttle service. I'll definitely be staying here again next time! Highly recommended!

GGuest UserA lovely traditional courtyard hotel with lots of character right in the heart of the old city within walking distance to everything you would want to see. The owner speaks good English and provides you with a map and details of beautiful Pingyao’s must see local attractions. The hotel is quiet and the Chinese breakfasts with either tea or coffee are delicious. The owner can also organise a good driver for any out of town excursions. Highly recommended

Excellent location near the South Gate and easy access to Main Street in the old town. Looks a little rundown but perhaps it was the look it as trying to keep. Unsure. Classic chinese style room (nice!!) with Kang Bed meant for those who are accustomed to hard bed. Toilet and shower are not separated. Provide high speed train station pickup and drop off which are big pluses. Helpful front desk.

The hotel is really worth recommending. The rooms are in a traditional style, very atmospheric and cozy. The room and bedding were very clean, toiletries were in the bathroom. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful - they even offered us a free room upgrade! The hotel courtyard is beautiful, the lanterns are wonderful! The hotel is very well located, just a few minutes from the main shopping street. The breakfast was also very good. In summary, I highly recommend this Hotel.
