Peace Wall Belfast

The Peace Wall Belfast located on the Peace Line in west Belfast was built to separate Catholic and Protestant residential areas and reduce conflict between paramilitary groups on both sides. It is also a unique attraction that is a must-visit when in this city. The first section of the Peace Wall Belfast was built in 1974. In the summer of 2003, on the eve of a traditional parade held by Protestants to celebrate the historical victory of King William III over the Irish army, this wall was specially reinforced. Now, it has become a city sightseeing attraction, allowing people to reflect on the past and appreciate the value of peace.

Anfield

Anfield in Liverpool holds no less significance for the Kop (the nickname for Liverpool FC fans) than Old Trafford does for Manchester United supporters. The history of Anfield serving Liverpool FC dates back over 100 years. Built in 1884, it was initially owned by Everton FC. In 1892, the club left due to an inability to pay the high rent, and Liverpool FC was established that May. Since then, Anfield has been their home ground, unchanged. Over its 120-year history, Anfield has witnessed all the glorious moments. This football theatre of dreams has four stands, with the Kop stand being the most important, reserved for loyal Liverpool fans. The stand built to celebrate the club's centenary is now named after legendary figure Kenny Dalglish. The Anfield Road stand is primarily for visiting fans. After two rounds of expansions to the main stand and Anfield Road stand, the stadium now accommodates over 60,000 spectators.

Hillsborough Castle and Gardens

Hillsborough Castle has been a grand family home and is now the official home of the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, and a royal residence. Members of the Royal Family stay at Hillsborough when visiting Northern Ireland. Viewed by some as a politically neutral venue, Hillsborough has played an important role in the Peace Process in Northern Ireland since the 1980s. In 2014, Historic Royal Palaces took over the running of Hillsborough Castle and Gardens and began an ambitious project to restore the house and gardens to its former glory.   Hillsborough is a late-18th century Irish Big House rather than a castle. It was very common for the rich, predominantly Anglo-Irish upper classes to call their grand country houses ‘castles', as this reinforced the antiquity of their families. In this case the name refers back to the original ‘fort', which was the first home of the successful Hill family who gave the town its name. The grand Big House of Hillsborough replaced this earlier fortified home, which we now call The Fort.
