Qushan Island

Qushan Island is located northeast of Gaoting Town, Zhoushan City, Zhejiang, and is a charming and understated pearl in the Zhoushan Archipelago. Here, you can feast your eyes at the windmill observation deck, pay your respects at the Guanyinshan Scenic Area, gaze up at the starry sky at night, and search for mirages. Nearly 100 wind turbines are distributed along the ridges of the entire island, and the continuous ridges look like a kingdom of windmills. Standing on the windmill observation deck, with huge white windmills behind you and the boundless sea in front of you, the scenery is breathtaking. Guanyinshan Scenic Area is a high peak on Qushan Island. Several peaks are linked like a lotus flower. Legend has it that before Guanyin Bodhisattva went to Putuo to practice, she stayed on this mountain for several years. The most magnificent building on the mountain is the Jade Buddha Pagoda, which is about 45m high and has 11 stories. The base of the pagoda is 10m square and is built with finely chiseled granite. There are stairs inside, allowing you to climb up level by level, with 200 jade Buddhas installed on each level. The beacon at the top of the pagoda can be seen for hundreds of miles, making it a major view of the Zhoushan Archipelago. In addition, there are salt fields on the island, which is one of the main production areas for "Dai Salt." Tourists can see the quite spectacular large salt fields along the coast in the middle of the island.Daishan · 23.6 km from downtown

Daishan Island is the second largest island in Zhoushan. It is located at the mouth of the Yangtze River and Qiantang River. The island is rich in tourism resources, including Moshixin Mountain, Houshayang Beach, Yanwo Mountain, Shuanghe Mountain, Penglai Park and other attractions. There are two things you must do when you come to Daishan Island: cycling in Daishan and camping to watch the starry sky and sunrise. The Lulan Qingsha Attraction at the foot of Lulan Mountain in the north of Daishan Island is one of the "Ten Scenic Spots of Penglai". It is a large natural bathing beach and beach activity center. The entire Attraction consists of Lulan Qingsha Beach, Xu Fu Pavilion, Niluo Mountain, and Haitan. Lulan Qingsha Beach is about 3.6 kilometers long and runs from north to south. The sand is iron gray, fine and hard. Cars can drive on the beach, which is known as the "Ten Thousand Steps Iron Plate Sand". There is a starry sky tent hotel on the beach. You can stay overnight in a starry sky tent on the beach, equipped with sleeping bags, camping lights, slippers, power supplies and other facilities. It is safe and comfortable. You can look up at the stars by opening the curtain and watch the sunrise in the tent, which is very comfortable. Cycling in Daishan is along the Yanhuang Line, a red professional cycling path along the coast, with green mountains on one side and rippling island scenery on the other. Cycling aimlessly here, you can take in the scenery of mountains and sea.Daishan · 7.3 km from downtown

Putuo Mountain is the sacred site of Guanyin Bodhisattva, renowned as the "Putuo Mountain Scenic Area." Visitors and pilgrims never miss the three grand temples—Puji, Fayu, and Huiji—along with the 33m-tall Nanhai Guanyin statue. The mountain's charming coastal scenery adds to its allure, offering delightful experiences like strolling along Qianbu Sands and admiring the reclining Buddha view over the sea. Putuo Mountain Island is located east of Zhoushan Island, with no road access—only ferry service to Putuo Mountain Pier is available. The elongated island spans approx. 7 km in length, with attractions spaced 2–10 km apart. Nearby attractions can be explored on foot, while distant ones are accessible via the island's itinerary buses departing from the pier's passenger terminal. Additionally, Foding Mountain offers cable car rides, and Luojia Mountain—a small island approx. 5 km east of Putuo Mountain—is reachable by boat (accessible exclusively from Putuo Mountain Island as part of the Putuo Mountain Scenic Area). The attractions in Putuo Mountain Scenic Area are mainly distributed across three zones. Visitors can explore all attractions within each zone together, with each zone requiring approximately half a day to visit. Travelers can plan their itinerary based on their accommodation location and arrival time on the island. Zone 1: Centered around Puji Temple, the western side of the island features attractions like the West Heaven Scenic Area. As the island's main temple dedicated to Guanyin, Puji Temple stands alongside the Duobao Pagoda, one of Putuo Mountain's three treasures. The West Heaven Scenic Area boasts numerous attractions including Pantuo Rock, Heart Character Rock, and Meifu Temple. Zone 2: In the southern area, you'll find attractions like the Nanhai Guanyin statue, Zizhu Forest, Bukenqu Guanyin Temple, and Nantian Gate. The Nanhai Guanyin statue is the island's landmark structure, while Bukenqu Guanyin Temple holds legendary tales of Putuo Mountain that you won't want to miss. Zone 3: Centered around Foding Mountain, the area features two temples: Fayu Temple and Huiji Zen Temple. The other two treasures of Mount Putuo - the Nine Dragons Caisson Ceiling and the Yangzhi Guanyin Stele - are located in Fayu Temple and Yangzhi Zen Temple adjacent to it respectively. If time permits, you can also take a boat to Luojia Mountain, which typically requires about half a day. In addition to these religious attractions, there are two bathing beaches on the eastern side of the island: Thousand-Step Sand near Fayu Temple and Hundred-Step Sand near Purple Bamboo Grove. Visitors who enjoy ocean views and water activities are welcome to visit.Zhoushan · 33.5 km from Daishan

The beautiful Qushan Island still has no bridge, so you have to take a ferry from Daishan. The scenery on the island is beautiful, the sea water is blue and clear, and the whole island can be seen from Guanyin Mountain. It is breathtaking. This is my second time here. I am very happy every time and will come again.

Putuoshan was quite fun. It was my first time there, and the prices were high, especially the food. It wasn't good value for money; besides seafood, there wasn't much else to see. People who don't like seafood will be disappointed. We arrived late, and half a day was a bit rushed; we didn't get to see everything. Putuoshan's scenery requires a more relaxed and leisurely approach.

Daishan, formerly known as Penglai, has its Lulan Qingsha (Deer Lane Sunny Sandbar) listed as the first of the ancient "Ten Scenic Spots of Penglai." Unlike the "Ten Scenic Spots of Penglai" at Penglai Pavilion in Shandong, this landscape is built upon the seascape and mountain topography of Daishan Island and the legend of Xu Fu's eastward voyage. The scenic area is surrounded by mountains on three sides. At high tide, the waves are magnificent, and at low tide, the water is calm. The seabed near the shore is free of impurities and reefs, making it an ideal place for water sports.

Dongsha Town in Daishan is an ancient fishing town. It was built along the sea, on the east side of the sea, and is called Dongsha. It is very different from the land towns in Jiangsu and Zhejiang. There are no small bridges and flowing water in the center of the town, but solid alleys, streets and backyards. The ancient town is in front of the sea and behind the mountains. It is vicissitudes on the water side, open in the sea breeze, and reserved in the sea fog. It has more momentum of the sea, more charm of the mountains, and more uniqueness of the island.

The opening of the Zhoudai Cross-sea Bridge has made Xiushan Island, far away in the horizon, a weekend resort for people from Hangzhou and Ningbo. The Aegean Sea Resort on the island is next to the Sanjiao Beach in Xiushan Township. The beach is about 500 meters long, with fine and soft sand, golden color, and a gentle slope. It stretches in a half-moon shape, like a piano lying on the sea. However, the bridge may have been opened not long ago, and the tourism infrastructure here is not yet complete. You can only drive there, and other restaurants and accommodation seem to be inconvenient. However, there are few people and beautiful scenery. Now is the right time to go.

I went to Xiushan Island for the May Day holiday, and this was the only place that could be called a "tourist attraction"... The town's architecture is very stylish, and the photos turn out great on a clear day... Kids love digging in the sand, and there are beach buggies to try out; washing up is also convenient. There aren't many commercial facilities, but there are plenty of snacks and drinks, which is quite comprehensive for Xiushan Island... During the May Day holiday, if you're just strolling around the island, this is the only place that's somewhat lively without being too crowded; it's worth a visit.

The Guanyin Dharma Realm Guanyin Altar truly exceeded my expectations; I highly recommend visiting it during your trip to Zhujiajian! Facing Putuoshan across the sea, this place leans more towards a Guanyin cultural and artistic palace. The 91.9-meter-tall altar boasts a grand and solemn exterior, truly awe-inspiring from afar. Entering the Yuantong Hall, the colossal Guanyin statue is dignified and majestic, the domed wooden carvings are exquisitely detailed, and sunlight streaming through the stained-glass windows creates a captivating atmosphere. The altar is divided into multiple levels, allowing for leisurely exploration. Each level offers unique exhibits, and on the sixth floor, you can even quietly copy the Heart Sutra, immersing yourself in Zen philosophy. The park is clean, with clear signage and courteous staff. I suggest allowing 3-4 hours for a leisurely visit; its architectural beauty and cultural depth make it a tranquil and healing journey for the soul. It's very close to the Wugongzhi Wharf, making it a perfect stop on the way to or from Putuoshan by boat – definitely worth the trip!

The architectural design is unique and stylish, while the interior decoration and facilities are luxurious, elegant, and grand—truly breathtaking. The external landscape and environment are also stunning. The entire visit requires about two hours and is packed with content, including a movie and a light show, which are very entertaining. I also acquired many exquisite Buddhist items to take home for protection and good fortune. It's definitely worth a visit, and I highly recommend checking it out when you go to Putuoshan.
