Easy to use, machine to top up was efficient. Do not need to use the MRT card and pay for the ride in need of toilet. U can ask for the mrt counter staff for a token to enter the station for the toilet.

As explained, there are many steps to get the card, such as installing a special app, which I found inconvenient for beginners. When passing through the ticket gate, you can pass through by simply showing your ticket and passport to the train attendant. There's no need to hold anything up at the gate. This was a bit of a hassle for me, so I hope this information helps someone.

It’s super foreigner-friendly — the 3-day pass lets you hop around on the HSR pretty much as much as you want. Just a heads-up: plan your route properly, because time flies and it’s easy to miss the true “must-go” spots if you wing it. I used mine for a Tainan run and it was totally worth it — visited 林百貨 (Hayashi Department Store) and a bunch of other places around the city. Tainan has that chill, old-soul vibe: great food, slower pace, and so many photogenic streets to wander.

We booked the "Round-the-Island Star Cute Journey" train online, boarding at Taichung Railway Station at approximately 7:18 PM. The train has six carriages: carriages 3 through 6 are business class, and carriages 1 and 2 are the dining car and activity carriages. The business class carriages have a 1+2 seating arrangement. The train offers drinks and food, but on the Taichung to Taipei route, only all-you-can-drink drinks are available. Passengers can sing karaoke and do crafts in the activity carriages, and also enjoy drinks in the dining car. The restaurant also offers stamp collection items and souvenirs. Our two-hour journey was completely enjoyable.


