Reviews: Beijing: Mutianyu Great Wall and Summer Palace One Day Bus Tour with Options

I'd like to share my experience. It's warm on the wall on January 8th. The temperature is just above freezing. Those accustomed to Far Eastern and Siberian winters with temperatures of -20-30 degrees Celsius will find it very comfortable. We haven't tried the green route. It's shorter (1.5 hours) and easier. We climbed the red route (2.5 hours) from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, taking 40 minutes each way. From 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, it's a stroll. From 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, it's a dash up steep steps. The steps are of varying sizes. Watch your step. Wear light shoes. And don't dress too warmly. A wet back, and maybe even something else, will ruin the experience. It's better to dress lightly and sportily, and pack some extra gear in case the wind picks up.

Hello everyone! As soon as I paid for the reservation, the tour organizer messaged me on WeChat almost immediately. A few days before the tour, he also wrote to me and mentioned our guide, with whom we also communicated on WeChat! If you're traveling with children, definitely take this tour and you'll enjoy it! No need to worry about how or what to take, no need to go to the metro station to transfer to a bus; a comfortable minivan picked us up. Our guide, Tana, was very engaging and spoke excellent Russian; even the kids enjoyed listening! Very kind and attentive! The only thing I'll point out is that we paid 140 yuan per person for the round-trip cable car. The experience was simply wonderful! I highly recommend it!

Brown was an excellent tour guide, at the beginning of the tour he explained the historical context of the Great Wall, and after that guided us to where we should go. For those that bought the slide tickets and for those that chose the cable car. I was able to go to both extreme sides of the wall with the time given, so there is plenty of time at the Great Wall. However, I would recommend exploring the cable car side first since it is more accessible. Brown also gave a guided tour at the Summer Palace which was very comprehensive and detailed. Then we were given about an hour to explore the Palace and buy some souvenirs/food. Overall, pretty satisfied with the tour.

Guide: Zhao. He was absolutely amazing. Despite the language barrier he did his best to take us through a bit of China's history (using a translator device). Zhao is an experienced guide. He bought the tickets for us, took us to the most scenic sport of the great wall, met the itinerary and made our tour an enjoyable experience. Itinerary: hotel pick up - Great wall - lunch - Summer Palace - hotel drop off ( 9am - 6pm approx). Notes: Zhao recommended a traditional restaurant where we paid a 90 euros bill. Not saying the food was not worthy but felt the waiter pushed us to order food that ended up being for at least five people (we were 2/ receipt in Chinese/ maths not matching). A bit of honesty would've been much appreciated and instead of spending all that money in food that we couldn't eat, give a tip to Zhao for his great work (not his fault).

Mina was fluent and detailed in her explanations of the summer palace. I was lucky as the only tour participant, She suggested meeting earlier in order to avoid the weekend crowds which proved to be a good idea. She also gave good historical context on how the palace and grounds were constructed and used and offered additional tips for exploring the grounds after our tour ended.
