Reviews: [Affordable Price for Tomorrow] Melbourne Puffing Billy Steam Train + Phillip Island & Penguin Island Day Trip
Guest User2026-09-23
A super satisfying trip! The weather was fantastic too; the driver said it was the best weather in recent days—lucky us! I finally got to ride the steam train I'd been dreaming of and saw the world's smallest blue penguin, only about 33cm tall 🐧—so cute and adorable! The driver's route and sightseeing time were well-planned. Besides ensuring our safety, he also acted as our guide, explaining the background and history of each stop. A perfect experience 💯—absolutely fantastic!

Reviews: Melbourne Puffing Billy Steam Train & Phillip Island Penguin Parade one-day tour

It was a great trip with safe driving by Jack, our tour guide cum driver. Thank you Jack for the great service, the recommendation on the timing to enter Philip Island platform and to sit at the left side for the Puffing Billy trip from Lakeside to Belgrave and for reaching Noble Viewpoint on time to capture the sunset view.

Reviews: Optional Mercedes-Benz 499] Melbourne Puffing Billy Railway + Penguin Parade Phillip Island 1-day tour

Our trip during the National Day holiday was quite unpredictable in Melbourne's spring weather. The trip to Phillip Island was a bit late, around 10 am to 10 pm, perfect for those who love to sleep in. The little train wasn't fast, and the journey was long regardless of whether it was sunny or cloudy. Phillip Island (and its penguins) is quite weather-dependent; on sunny days, the beach scenery was incredibly soothing, and it wasn't too cold to see the little penguins at night. We arrived at a good time; the weather was suddenly sunny and breezy when we got to Phillip Island! We managed to take pictures of the chubby little penguins and the Australian specialty grey geese during the day. The driver was very talkative throughout the trip, covering topics from farms to koalas, penguins, and Australian seafood. Everyone on the bus was very punctual, so we didn't waste any time.

Reviews: Australia Puffing Billy Railway + Healesville Sanctuary 1-day tour [round-trip from city]

The itinerary locations and the Puffing Billy experience were wonderful. The only disappointment was that the actual schedule on the day differed from what was listed on the website, the order of the attractions was changed. The train ride started from Lakeside Station instead of the original Belgrave departure. This made my pre-trip research useless, and I was worried about not getting good photos. Luckily, our tour guide was very helpful in answering our questions. However, it would be much better if travelers could be notified at least a day in advance if there are any changes to the itinerary.

Reviews: 1-day tour to Melbourne's Puffing Billy Railway and Phillip Island (English-speaking premium group | penguin island)

You have a lot of free time when you have nothing to do. We arrived at the train station an hour before departure. It was raining, so we just sat in the cafe. The train ride was interesting, we enjoyed it. The train ride lasted an hour. Then we went to the zoo. You could have gone in at your own expense, but since it was raining, everyone just sat in the cafe again. We went to the observation deck, it was beautiful. Then we went to the penguin parade. We arrived two hours early, so everyone sat in the cafe again. You'll spend most of the time on the road. The penguins come out in the dark, you can't take photos, they come out in small groups. The penguins themselves are tiny, 30 cm. They walk from the sea to the grass. You can watch from two points. The duration is an hour. What's good is that there are restrooms, cafes, and drinking fountains everywhere. The driver, who was also a guide, gave all sorts of information along the way.
