Reviews: Shanghai Xuyan - Ancient Immersive Palace Banquet (Tang Dynasty)|Dining + Hanfu Experience + Imperial Performance [Makeup/Photography/Vintage Portraits Available] - Ode to Chang'an

It was a pretty good experience, having to dress up in ancient Chinese costumes while having dinner. The staff were very patient in dressing us up, and when it came to taking photos, there were also very engaging in taking the photographs. Food was decent too.

These banquets are a great way to experience Chinese culture and cuisine. We attend them in different cities and are always delighted! The only downside to this place in Shanghai is that for some reason some dishes weren't delivered to us... we've never experienced this before. The employee, through a translator, told us they were distributed randomly 🤷🏼‍♀️, which adds a touch of indignation and dissatisfaction at the end of the show.

Unfortunately, traveling solo ended up being more expensive because there wasn't a single-person option. Chinese portions are very large, and for two, that's a lot of food. I brought my own "taboo" and ate for three more days. 🤣 It's good to have a refrigerator in the room! The interior is interesting (there are two other locations, each different), and the food is delicious! But during Golden Week, there's a rush of tourists, so I had to wait almost four hours. There's a Madame Tussauds museum in the shopping center, which made waiting in the huge line a little easier. The staff is pleasant and helpful! If you reserve a table yourself, you can choose your favorite dishes.

In short, I almost cried from the emotions I experienced. Gorgeous, beautiful, thoughtfully crafted, delicious!!! I highly recommend this place when in Shanghai. There were so many different dishes. While the dishes at these types of sets are usually small, here each serving was quite generous. We ate our fill! Naturally, there were dishes that surprised us with their taste, both good and bad. But this is China, so for a Russian, it's no surprise that something was "strange." In any case, it was incredibly interesting, vibrant, and unforgettable. Worth every penny. I was also surprised that they had a translation device for our language. We thought it would be English... but it turned out to be Russian!!! Unexpectedly. The waiters speak English well, explain everything, and help. I highly recommend this place!
