Reviews: Key West Dolphin Watch and Snorkel Tour - Eco Adventure
Guest User2026-02-06
We booked a snorkeling excursion with FURY, one of Norwegian Cruise Line’s shore excursions and the 2025 Travels Choice Award winner for Outstanding Water Adventures in the Keys. FURY has been a staple here for more than three decades, and it shows. Quick tip: You can book this excursion directly through the FURY website and save some money. However, booking through the cruise line guarantees you won’t be left behind if there’s a delay returning to port. With such limited time in Key West, the extra cost was worth it for peace of mind. Within minutes, we’re off—along with a boatload of fellow NCL passengers—aboard one of FURY’s catamarans. This is a very popular excursion. Everything you need is provided: snorkeling gear, vests, flotation noodles, and even wetsuits available for rent. FURY also has equipment for all shapes and sizes… including kids! During the 30-minute ride out to the reef, I chat with Captain Willie about the adventure ahead. Soon enough, it’s time to enter the water. Captain Willie gives us a heads-up—the water is a bit rough and cool, around 70 degrees. But we suck it up and take the plunge! We’re snorkeling over a portion of North America’s largest living reef. Visibility is pretty good, and the scenery is stunning—sea fans sway harmonically with the current, coral heads rise from the ocean floor, and marine life surrounds us. As Captain Willie explained, this is the Rock Key Sanctuary, just east of Sand Key. There’s a strictly enforced no-touch, no-take policy, helping preserve this fragile ecosystem. We’re swimming in 10 to 25 feet of water, making it perfect for all skill levels. Denise points out a yellowtail snapper swimming below us, while another species nibbles at the living coral rock. Even with nearly 100 swimmers on the reef, it somehow feels like we’re all alone—completely immersed in this tropical wonderland. The swaying sea fans are hypnotic. We give this adventure a big thumbs up as we head back to the Pacific Fury, where Captain Willie gets the party started for the ride back. It’s been 20 years since we last explored the Florida Keys coral reef, and honestly, it rivals what we’ve experienced in Hawaii and the U.S. Virgin Islands. If you’re visiting Key West, this is an absolute must-see experience

Reviews: Key West Dolphin and Snorkel Experience
Guest User2024-07-13
Fun trip and love the salty air and splash of the waves. We had an all female crew and captain and they were wonderful! Knew their stuff about boats, the ocean, snorkeling, etc. we saw dolphins which made my trip perfect! The snorkeling was just ok; only because it had rained that day and the wind was up so water was murky and not clear. The sunset was pretty despite the clouds/rainy skies. There was a little drama between some passengers and we had to take people back to the dock and drop them off; but we went right back out and finished our adventure. Great time and trip!!

Reviews: Biologist Owned & Operated: Dolphin Watching & Guided Snorkeling

I have been following Honest Eco for a few years now, and have wanted to do the kayak, snorkel, + dolphin watch tour for a long time. Every trip where I could do it, one or more people in my party would not or could not do some part of it. 1 in my family gets seasick, 1 can't swim, 1 is scared of fast boats, and 2 are terrified of the ocean. haha We're a tough bunch. This year I said "F*ck it! I'm booking it!" thinking I was just going to book for myself and take the trip alone. Right before I booked, my youngest daughter decided to join me, so I switched it to the Dolphin Watch + Snorkel. I love the ocean (even though I have a healthy fear of it as well), I love snorkeling, and dolphins are my favorite animals on this planet since birth. So I was really excited about this. I was a tad nervous that my youngest may not like it, or may not snorkel, and if she didn't snorkel what that would mean for me. She's a preteen, and on some tours if she doesn't leave the boat, a parent must stay on board with her, which is understandable, but when it's just her and I that would be a bummer for me. haha Also, dolphins and marine life are wild animals. There is no guarantee that we'd see them. That is always a risk you take with tours like this. Within the first 20 minutes we started seeing dolphins. I was so happy! My daughter was enjoying the trip as well. Then the Captain asked if we wanted to snorkel now, to leave more time at the end to try and do more dolphin watching. Everyone in the group loved the idea so we went. My daughter and I were the last in our group to get off the boat. I told Captain Sean and Mate Ben that we were a bit scared. Both of them were SO amazing at walking us through it, being patient, and Ben even waited until we were both in the water and feeling great before swimming off to look for sea life for the group. He checked in on us a few times throughout the snorkeling as well. On our trip we saw so many fish, lots of moon jellyfish, and some manta rays!!! I saw one with my daughter when no one was around us, and it was so huge. It definitely startled me. After the ray sighting mixed with several jellyfish my daughter was done. haha She did go back to the boat early, and Captain Sean was nice about it. Didn't shame her or call any attention to it really. There were already a couple people who had gone back as well, so she sat up on the boat (on her phone) while I went back out to see more. On our second attempt at finding dolphins we were able to have an experience with a large maternity pod of 12+ dolphins. It was incredible. Captain Sean was great with his dad jokes and sea knowledge, and Mate Ben was so sweet and also was a wealth of knowledge. He checked in with everyone in the group several times throughout the tour to make sure everyone was having a great time, and had what they needed. I also love that they keep the group size small so everyone gets that personal attention. We couldn't have asked for a better trip!! Honest Eco was worth every penny!! I'm currently planning my next tour with them!!
