I purchased an EasyCard with 400 TWD pre-loaded. After arriving at Taoyuan Airport, I planned to take the MRT to Taoyuan High Speed Rail Station and then the THSR to Tainan, so I booked the THSR before leaving the country. I underestimated the time it would take to board the THSR at Taoyuan High Speed Rail Station from Taoyuan Airport, so I was pretty close. However, since my EasyCard was already loaded, I didn't have to worry about topping it up before boarding the MRT, and I made it in time for the THSR. The only thing I could say is that the map showing the location of the card pick-up counter was confusing, so I asked a local, but they didn't know where it was, and it took a while for them to find it. The pick-up process was smooth, and I was able to pick it up in about 3 minutes after showing my voucher.

Excellent!! The driver was very attentive and responsible, and drove very smoothly. I usually get carsick, but I didn't get carsick at all on the mountain roads of Alishan this time!! He also gave us detailed introductions at the scenic spots and took us to take photos 😭 He was so responsible; I didn't expect to get such a great customized tour for this price.

I tried to book a Shinkansen ticket in advance on the official website, but it didn't work unless it was in English. Seats are automatically assigned. Even though I'd already made all my reservations, when I tried to check my reservation on the official website, it said there were no reservations. And when I went to get my paper ticket, the automatic ticket machine said it couldn't find my reservation for some reason. It was fine because I was able to get my ticket at the ticket counter, but it did worry me a bit.

Our driver, Brother Zeng, was incredibly dedicated and responsible, and his driving skills were excellent! I usually get carsick, but this time I didn't experience any motion sickness or discomfort at all. He provided thorough explanations of the sights and constantly encouraged us to take photos, haha. He even had a pretty complete set of photography equipment, showing a real commitment to getting great shots for his customers, haha! I highly recommend joining a small group tour; they pick you up and drop you off at your hotel, which is perfect for solo travelers!!


