Iguaçu National Park

Iguaçu National Park is located on the basalt geological belt of Parana, Brazil, and faces the national park on the Argentina side across the Iguazu River, together protecting the subtropical rainforest that spans the border between the two countries. The park contains five ecosystems and nurtures over 2,000 species of vascular plants and hundreds of bird species, serving as an important habitat for representative South American wildlife such as tapirs, giant otters, anteaters, howler monkeys, ocelots, jaguars, and caimans. The park's core view is Iguazu Falls. The falls are approx. 2,700 m wide, consist of hundreds of waterfalls of various sizes, and have a drop of up to approx. 82 m. There are various ways to explore the park. You can take a helicopter to overlook the entire view of the waterfalls and rainforest from the air; the Macuco Safari water adventure departs by speedboat from the Iguazu River, passes through waters such as Parrot Island, and sails close to the bottom of the waterfall curtain, where visitors will be drenched by the mist and feel the power of the rushing water up close; or you can choose to take a slow boat ride along the river, observing aquatic plants and wildlife along the banks, and after disembarking at Bananeiras Port, walk deep into the rainforest interior.Matelandia · 77.3 km from Foz do Iguacu

Birds Park is a private bird park focused onthe conservation of Atlantic Forest species. The park features an approx. 2 km walking trail that winds through the recovering Atlantic Forest vegetation and connects six walk-in immersive aviaries along the way. Unlike traditional zoos where you view animals through wire mesh, the birds here fly freely in large, enclosed environments, allowing visitors to walk inside the aviaries and observe them up close—macaws fly overhead, toco toucans perch nearby to preen their feathers, and hummingbirds hover rapidly among the flowers. Birds Parkis home to thousands of animals across over 100 species, many of which are rescued individuals, some of whom cannot return to the wild due to injury, illness, or past illegal trade. The park continues to promote Atlantic Forest conservation through scientific research, conservation education, and animal rescue, and visitor attendance directly supports these conservation efforts.Foz do Iguacu · 15 km from downtown

Iguazu Falls

Iguazu Falls in South America is one of the world's five great waterfalls, known for its vast width. The name "Iguazu" means "great water" in the language of the Guarani, the indigenous people of South America. The falls are located on the border between Argentina and Brazil. In 1984, Iguazu Falls was designated a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. What sets Iguazu Falls apart is the multitude of viewing points, offering different perspectives from various locations, directions, and heights. The entire waterfall system is vast in quantity, majestic in scale, and awe-inspiring in sound, creating an unforgettable experience. 1. Waterfall history In the 1540s, Spanish explorer Cabeza de Vaca wrote about it in European records when he traversed the rainforest. The formation of such a spectacular waterfall at Iguazu is inseparable from its geological and geographical conditions. The current terrain was shaped by volcanic eruptions 1.2 billion years ago. The Paraná River valley in Brazil consists of north-south trending basalt, while the Iguazu River and its bedrock run perpendicular to the Paraná River, resulting in much weaker erosion compared to the Paraná. Even today, the waterfall continues to change and will keep evolving. The transformation of what was once a basalt plateau into today's breathtaking landscape is truly awe-inspiring. 2. Waterfall details The Iguazu River originates in the Mar Mountains near Curitiba, winding westward through the Brazilian Highlands for 1,320 km. Before merging into the Paraná River, it collects over 30 tributaries along its course. At Iguazu Falls, the river widens to 4 km. Iguazu Falls is a spectacle whose power, form, and thunderous roar can only be believed after experiencing it firsthand. Under the sunlight, it creates countless fantastical rainbows, presenting a magnificent sight. Iguazu Falls far surpasses Niagara Falls in North America in both height and width, offering a more majestic and splendid view. Its roaring waters can be heard from 30 km away, making it a true wonder of the world. Located in a subtropical region, Iguazu Falls maintains relatively stable water levels throughout the year. The local rainy season from January to March brings the highest water flow, making it the best time to visit, while the dry season from August to October sees reduced water volume. 3. Devil's throat Nearly half the water of the Iguazu River squeezes into this U-shaped crack, tumbling down to the valley floor over 80 m below, roaring like rolling thunder, with mist rising dozens of meters high. On sunny days, rainbows almost hang over the curtain of mist all day long. 4. In-park activities A few years ago, Iguazu Falls was operated by a private company, which built about 20 km of sightseeing boardwalks, laid an electric railway, and completely upgraded the tourism facilities. Within the attraction, visitors can walk along the boardwalks or take a sightseeing train to explore various attractions. At the end of the boardwalk, there is a tower where an elevator takes you directly to the top of the falls for a side view of Iguazu Falls. Getting up close to the waterfalls is one of the most thrilling activities in Iguazu – riding a speedboat into the falls and weaving through them is incredibly exhilarating. However, this is an optional activity (fees excluded) costing $60 per ride, and requires going downstream first. First, take a sightseeing vehicle through the jungle (it's said that the seeds of a certain tree along the way are exclusively used for French perfumes, while some plants serve as staple food for indigenous people). After disembarking, transfer to a jeep to descend several steep slopes before reaching the speedboat departure point. Travelers need to wear raincoats and life jackets before boarding the speedboat. The boat moves upstream at a relatively fast speed, with rapid currents. When approaching the waterfalls, the boat stops to allow travelers to take photos, then revs up and charges straight toward the falls. This is repeated several times, making it an extremely thrilling experience. 5. Differences between touring Argentina and Brazil The waterfalls are distributed on both sides of the canyon, which serves as the border between Argentina and Brazil, offering strikingly different views from each country. The park on the Brazilian side is one of Brazil's larger forest reserves, covering 170,000 hectares and home to abundant wildlife. In Argentina, there are two tour routes: the lower path winds through dense forests, allowing you to admire the grandeur or charm of each waterfall section from below—truly a new view every ten steps. The upper path offers a top-down experience of the waterfalls' cascading power. On the Brazilian side, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the main waterfalls in Argentina.Iguazu · 24.9 km from Foz do Iguacu
Itaipu Binational

Itaipu Binational

The views at Itaipu Binational center on engineering facilities such as the massive dam, open reservoir, powerhouse, and spillways. Visitors can enjoy the distinct views on both sides from the top of the dam and experience the magnificent scale of this large-scale water conservancy project from the viewing platforms. This is not just a visit to a large dam, but a comprehensive engineering tour area where you can experience the scale of modern water conservancy projects up close and enjoy views of the river and reservoir. The massive dam spans the valley, connecting the natural river with the artificial reservoir and showcasing a very open spatial layout. Upon entering the tour area of the hydropower station, the most direct view is the massive dam stretching for nearly 8 km. The dam spans the Paraná River, and the space on both sides forms a strong visual contrast as the height changes. The dam's height of nearly 200 m makes the entire project look magnificent. Standing at a suitable viewing spot, you can observe the dam structure, river channel, and reservoir from different angles.Foz do Iguacu · 12.2 km from downtown

It faces a massive and magnificent U-shaped gorge, where a wide curtain of water cascades down from the cliff edge, creating a drop of approx. 80 m. You can hear a continuous roar from far away, and as you get closer, the waterfall becomes increasingly powerful, with the mist filling the gorge hitting your face, making the entire viewing experience incredibly immersive. The boardwalk extends toward the gorge and the waterfall, allowing visitors to stand directly in front of the water curtain and observe the rushing river from different angles. On sunny days, sunlight penetrates the mist filling the air above the gorge, often forming brilliant rainbows between the water curtains that complement the massive waterfall.Foz do Iguacu · 24.5 km from downtown

Devil's Throat is one of the core sections of Iguazu Falls, located on the Argentina side. Multiple river channels converge at the edge of a semicircular basalt formation, forming a U-shaped abyss where approx. 14 waterfalls cascade down simultaneously, with a drop of over 80m, creating a concentrated and fierce volume of water. The massive water curtain plunges into a narrow rift, with mist rising and filling the air. To reach the viewing platform, you need to take the park's sightseeing train through the tropical rainforest, then walk along the steel walkway built over the upper reaches of the Iguazu River. Along the walkway, the river surface is wide and calm, occasionally dotted with flocks of birds and small islands, contrasting with the sudden drop of the waterfall at the end. The viewing platform is suspended above the main waterfall, allowing you to watch the water cascading down and feel the mist hitting your face up close.Iguazu · 24.9 km from Foz do Iguacu

Marco das Três Fronteiras

Located at the junction of Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay, it is an iconic geographical and cultural landmark in South America. Its core view consists of three boundary markers of different colors, each standing on the banks of the T-shaped waterway formed by the confluence of the Rio Iguaçu and the Paraná River: the Brazilian marker is yellow and green, the Argentine is blue and white, and the Paraguayan is red, white, and blue. These markers were built simultaneously in 1903, symbolizing the territorial division and friendly relations among the three countries. This place is not only famous for its geographical significance but also as a tourist hotspot due to the fusion of diverse cultures. Visitors can "step into three countries at once" here and overlook the magnificent river views and lush rainforests at the border of the three nations. In the evening, the boundary marker square often hosts Latin dance performances and light shows, blending traditional music with modern light and shadow art to create a unique atmosphere. The surrounding area is well-equipped with observation decks, cafes, and handicraft markets, making it an ideal place for photography and leisure.Foz do Iguacu · 8.2 km from downtown

Trilha das Cataratas Brasil is like an emerald necklace set within the rainforest, stringing together breathtaking views. As a classic hiking route in Brazil, it is more than just a physical path to a natural wonder. It is an ecological experience that awakens the senses. Stepping onto the trail, you are first embraced by the unique, humid air of the Atlantic Forest, with sunlight filtering through the layered canopy to cast dappled shadows on the leaf-strewn path. Along the way, agile capuchin monkeys leap through the branches, and colorful toucans flit through the forest. As the rumble of water grows clearer, the hustle and bustle of the city fades away. You can stand on the mid-section platform to overlook the panoramic view and watch hundreds of streams cascade down from the cliffs, or feel the cool mist on your face as you approach the end. We had a truly amazing time at Iguacu National Park. The park is well organized, the staff are friendly and the routes are well maintained. There is a great lookout point where you are right above some of the falls and you get completely wet! This was one of those experiences that will flash before my eyes just before I die.

When traveling to Brazil🇧🇷 and Argentina🇦🇷 in South America, the Iguazu Falls at the border of the two countries is a must-see attraction. In addition, the Iguazu Bird Park is also a recommended attraction. The bird park has birds unique to South America, including hornbills with beaks like big bananas, flamingos behind pink flocks, and the most eye-catching is the macaw, which has bright colors and reminds people of the fiery character of the South American people.

The Devil's Throat in Argentina is the most stunning chapter of the Iguazu Falls. The surging water is like a galloping horse, falling into the abyss with the force of thunder, and the rainbow is looming in the steaming water. The roar resounds through the valley, and the majestic momentum hits the soul directly, showing the wild beauty of nature's uncanny craftsmanship.
