Kaş

Kaş is nestled along the Lycian coast of the Mediterranean in Türkiye, built upon the ruins of the ancient city of Antiphellos. It is a harbor town that blends Greek charm with remnants of Lycian civilization. Before the population exchange between Greece and Türkiye in 1923, a large number of Greek residents lived here, and the old town still retains the blue-and-white stone houses and cobblestone alleys they left behind. The town is a renowned diving destination in Türkiye, with shipwreck sites and aircraft wreckage scattered along the coast—including a well-preserved Dakota DC-3 transport plane wreck that you can enter and explore, as well as underwater canyons, reefs, and steep rock walls. The underwater visibility is excellent, and while diving, you may occasionally spot groupers, octopuses, and sea turtles. Beyond diving, taking a boat trip is a signature experience here; you can gaze at the semi-submerged ruins of the Sunken City of Kekova along the coastline, or take a short ferry ride for a day trip to the Greek island of Kastellorizo, which is just across the water. Several Lycian rock tombs and sarcophagi are scattered throughout the town and on the hillsides, with a 4th-century BC lion-shaped sarcophagus being particularly striking. The town also preserves an ancient open-air theater, where you can sit on the stone steps and look out over the azure sea. The old town is compact, making it easy to explore the main attractions on foot. The streets are lined with shops selling handicrafts and Mediterranean snacks, perfect for slowing down and soaking in the atmosphere.Türkiye · Kas

Kaleici Old Town

4.9/5
118 reviews
Kaleici Old Town is located in the city center of Antalya and has a history of over 2,000 years. It has been ruled by various civilizations, including Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, the Byzantine Empire, the Seljuk Empire, and the Ottoman Empire, with its street layout and architectural style bearing the marks of these different civilizations. Hadrian's Gate is the iconic entrance to Kaleici Old Town, built to commemorate the visit of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. The three marble arches are flanked by towers, and the cobblestone pavement beneath the gate still clearly shows the ruts and hoof prints from ancient times. After passing through the gate, Ottoman-style stone houses with red roofs and white walls are scattered along the slopes, and narrow alleys wind upwards, with mosque domes and minarets visible from time to time. The Tekeli Mehmet Pasha Mosque in the district, built in the 17th century, features typical Ottoman architectural style; the clock tower with a pentagonal base stands on the ancient city walls, with its foundation dating back to the Byzantine period and the upper clock tower added later, making it one of the striking landmarks of Kaleici Old Town today. The Old Roman Harbor is located at the southern end of the district and was once an important maritime transport hub in the Eastern Mediterranean. Today, it is docked with yachts and fishing boats, and the azure harbor water and layers of red roofs form a classic scene of Antalya. The alleys in the northern part of the old town are perfect for a quiet stroll, where you can see old houses covered in vines and scattered craft shops along the way. Restaurants and cafes are densely distributed along the main street, where you can taste local flavors such as Mediterranean grilled fish, or browse shops for handicrafts like carpets and ceramics.Türkiye · Antalya

Turkey's Dead Sea is located in Oludeniz, south of Fethiye. Although the place name is chilling, it has a soft sandy beach that is enough to enjoy the style of the Mediterranean coast. Changing rooms, shower rooms, and open-air bars are also available. Typical of Turkish European beaches. A big turn of the Mediterranean Sea on Turkey's long and tortuous southwestern coastline has created the huge Turkish Dead Sea. The entire coast is surrounded by mountains, forming a calm and waveless lagoon. Because the water here is calm and the reflection in the water is almost still, it is named "Dead Sea". This is a natural beach in southwestern Turkey, you can swim, but the beach is pebbled, so it is recommended to wear beach shoes. In addition, paragliding is also a popular sport here. When you fly into the air, you will experience peace and tranquility. The feeling of integration with the blue sky, blue sea, green mountains and white sand is very wonderful.Türkiye · Fethiye

Oludeniz Beach is located in Fethiye on the southwest coast of Türkiye. The name "Dead Sea" is translated from the Turkish "Ölüdeniz," referring to the bay's year-round calm waters—even when the open sea is rough, the water enclosed by the sandbar remains as calm as a mirror, and it has no relation to the high-salinity Dead Sea in the Middle East. A curved sandbar separates the open sea from the Blue Lagoon on the inside: the outer beach faces the open sea, while the inner lagoon is shallow and clear, transitioning from turquoise to sapphire blue, with pine-covered hillsides all around, creating a picture-perfect scene of blue, white, and green.Türkiye · Fethiye

Tuz Lake

Tuz Lake is located on the Central Anatolian Plateau in Türkiye. It is the second-largest lake in Türkiye after Lake Van and is one of the few large hypersaline lakes in the world. The lake is very shallow and has no outlet, with water levels fluctuating dramatically by season: the lake surface is expansive in winter and spring, but shrinks significantly after evaporation in the high heat of midsummer, exposing vast white salt flats where visitors can walk deep into the lakebed on hard, coarse salt crystals. The salt layer at the bottom of the lake is thick, and a significant portion of the table salt in Türkiye is produced from the salt fields in the lake area. Tuz Lake is famous for its pink lake surface in midsummer: high temperatures cause evaporation that spikes the lake's salinity, leading to the rapid proliferation of halophilic microorganisms like Dunaliella salina, which secrete red pigments that dye the entire shallow lake pink or even crimson, contrasting with the white salt crusts on the shore. This color only appears in the highly saline shallow water and quickly dilutes and fades when the water level rises, so it is not visible all year round. Around spring each year, flamingos often come to the shallow waters around the lake to rest and forage, and the sight of them framed against the pink lake surface is a unique scene here. After the water level rises in the fall, the lake returns to a layer of calm, shallow water, and on windless, sunny days, you can capture "mirror of the sky" reflections.Türkiye · Tuzyaka Mahallesi

Mevlana Museumis located in Konya, Türkiye, and is the final resting place of the 13th-century Persian Sufi poet Rumi. "Mevlana" means "our master," a title of respect given to him by the world, from which the museum takes its name. The site was originally a rose garden gifted by the Seljuk Sultan. After Rumi was buried here in 1273, a conical dome covered in turquoise tiles was built over his tomb. The dervish lodge, recitation hall, and mausoleum were gradually expanded, becoming the spiritual center for the Whirling Dervishes, and the entire complex was converted into a museum in the 1920s.Türkiye · Konya

Hadrian's Gate

4.5/5
102 reviews
Hadrian's Gate is the main gate of the ancient city of Kaleici, the old town of Antalya, built to commemorate the visit of the Roman Emperor Hadrian around 130 AD, and was later incorporated into the wall system surrounding the ancient city and the harbor, becoming a gate that still remains on the ancient city walls today. The entire gate structure is built of white marble with granite columns. Of the three arches, the middle one is slightly higher and wider. The arches and lintels are decorated with floral and rosette reliefs, and the cornice is adorned with lion-head carvings. The towers on both sides date from different periods: the south tower dates back to the Roman period, while the lower level of the north tower is a Roman structure, and the upper level was rebuilt during the 13th-century era of the Seljuk Sultan Kayqubad I, with traces of several eras converging under the same gate.Türkiye · Antalya

Side Ancient City

52 reviews
Side Ancient City is located on the Mediterranean coast of Antalya Province in southern Türkiye, with its ruins concentrated on a small peninsula extending into the sea. The ancient city was founded in the 7th century BC by Greek immigrants who crossed the sea, and "Side" means "pomegranate" in the local ancient language. Relying on its natural harbor, it became an important trading port in the Pamphylia region, successively experiencing the rule of the Lydians, Persians, Alexander the Great, and the Romans. During the Roman Empire, it was bustling with merchant ships and thriving commerce, and was once a hub for the Mediterranean slave trade. Legend has it that the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra and the Roman general Antony met here. Later, under the successive blows of Arab invasions, earthquakes, and fires, the ancient city gradually declined and was abandoned around the 10th century AD. Today, strolling around the peninsula, Roman-era ruins are visible almost everywhere: the large ancient theater built according to the terrain can accommodate tens of thousands of spectators; the Roman Great Baths have been converted into a site museum, displaying statues and sarcophagi unearthed from the ancient city; walking from the main city gate along the colonnaded street toward the sea, remnants of the grand market, fountain structures, and more follow the path, outlining the contours of the commercial district of that time. On the headland at the tip of the peninsula, the Apollon Temple and the Athena Temple stand side by side. Among them, the five re-erected giant marble columns face the sea. At sunset, the columns and the sea surface are dyed golden by the setting sun, which is an iconic photo spot of the ancient city.Manavgat · 99.5 km from Gazipasa

46 reviews
Roman Harbour is tucked away at the foot of the cliffs in Kaleici, the old town of Antalya, and is an ancient harbour that has been in use since the city was founded in the 2nd century BC. For over 2,000 years, it served as an important shelter and trading port on Mediterranean shipping routes. After merchant ships shifted to the newly built modern port outside the city, it ceased its cargo functions and was renovated in the 1980s to become the yacht and sightseeing boat marina filled with masts that it is today. The harbour is surrounded by walls and fortifications from the Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman periods, with layers of old red-tiled houses on the cliffs above, making the entire bay resemble an open-air theater facing the sea.Türkiye · Antalya

Lower Duden Waterfalls

5.0/5
35 reviews
Lower Duden Waterfalls is located in Antalya, Türkiye. The Duden River flows through the city, leaving behind two waterfalls with distinct styles: the upper and lower sections. The Upper Duden Waterfalls are hidden in a forest park on the northeast side of the city. With dense pine shade, the river cascades down in layers within the park, and the lawns under the trees are a popular spot for locals to picnic and take walks. A famous experience here is behind the waterfall: a natural cave runs behind the water curtain. Visitors can walk into the cave and look out at the greenery through the cascading water, with mist hitting their faces, as if they were in a "water curtain cave." The Lower Duden Waterfalls offer a different scene. Located on the coastal cliffs in the Lara area, the river falls directly from the cliff edge, which is dozens of m high, into the Mediterranean Sea, creating a scene where the waterfall flows into the sea. The clifftop park has several viewing platforms where you can take photos overlooking the spot where the waterfall meets the blue sea. On sunny days, rainbows often appear between the mist and the waves. Sightseeing boats departing from Antalya harbor can sail to the front of the waterfall, allowing you to look up at the water crashing into the sea and the mist it kicks up. The scenery is especially moving at sunset.Türkiye · Antalya

Turkey's Dead Sea is located in Oludeniz, south of Fethiye. The Dead Sea in Fethiye is different from the Dead Sea in Israel. It is not the Dead Sea where no life can survive in the water due to high salt content. Instead, in Oludeniz, surrounded by mountains, the long and winding coastline divides the Mediterranean Bay into two. The Mediterranean Sea on the outside is turbulent, but the bay on the inside is calm and quiet, as if frozen, so it is called the Dead Sea.

This is a very beautiful bay, the sea water is blue, like a striking piece of turquoise. The Turks like the color blue very much, and their souvenirs are blue eyes, which are said to ward off evil spirits. Most of the beaches here are for locals to vacation. This beach is said to be a popular beach on the Internet.

On the way from Ankara to Cappadocia, we passed by Lake Tuz, and the travel agency arranged it as a tourist attraction. The bus stopped by the roadside and passed through a store and entered Lake Tuz. The store sells special souvenirs and salt from Lake Tuz, which is said to be used for cleaning. The part of Lake Tuz we entered had no water, but only salt. Since there are no buildings around, the lake and the sky are connected. It is very suitable for taking pictures, and taking pictures of people can also produce very good results. The lake feels very large, but due to the short time, we did not go too far inside, which is a pity. Because of Lake Tuz, I feel that Ankara is worthwhile.

Everything was amazing... I was impressed that the Quran from around the 4th century was well preserved and exhibited. There didn't seem to be any particular dress code, but you do need to wear shoe covers, which are distributed at the entrance before entering. There are people praying inside, so it's best to stay quiet and wear clothes that expose as little as possible.

The vicissitudes and desolation of Hadrian's Gate make people see the city's rich history. Hadrian's Gate is right on the edge of the old city. The pillars seem to have been built later, and the color is different from the surrounding doorways, but the ancient gate has now merged with the old city.

What a beautiful city, with a different kind of tranquility, perhaps because of the history that has settled here. In fact, I don’t know much about the history of Rome, and I don’t understand some of the monuments, but I simply like the atmosphere here.
