Chaerhan Salt Lake

Chaerhan Salt Lake is located in the north of Golmud in western Qinghai Province, approx. 60 km by car from downtown Golmud, and is an important salt production base in Qinghai. Visitors come mainly to see the salt lake scenery and take photos. In addition, the factory area has built facilities such as the Salt Lake Museum and the Ten-Thousand-Zhang Salt Bridge, which visitors can go and explore. Most visitors to the attraction come by private charter from Golmud, or pass through here on a self-drive trip along the Qinghai-Tibet route to Golmud. The salt factory covers a large area, and it is several km from the main gate to the lakeside. The attraction officially opened in 2019 and has a proper visitor center. After arriving at the visitor center, visitors can take the attraction's sightseeing bus to the various attractions along the lakeside. After entering the factory area, you will first see a salt lake museum next to the factory area. The museum is a two-story building and can be entered for a visit. The museum displays the formation history and mining process of the salt lake, as well as model displays of attractions, where you can learn a lot about salt lakes and salt mining. The numerous salt flower crystals inside the museum are truly spectacular, offering a glimpse of their beauty., it is very beautiful and worth taking a good look at. In particular, the "Salt Lake Wonder" crystal at the entrance of the museum—the four large characters "Salt Lake Wonder" have become a popular spot for many visitors to take photos, which is very interesting. After visiting the museum, you can continue driving to the lakeside, where you will see a road extending into the lake. This road is called the Ten-Thousand-Zhang Salt Bridge, and it is actually paved with salt. Its hardness is the same as that of an ordinary asphalt road, so vehicles can drive on it. Moreover, when the road is damaged, the factory workers only need to pour some brine on it to restore it, which is truly remarkable. You can get off here and explore on foot. Strolling along this "bridge," you'll find the vast, endless salt lake stretching out on both sides. The shores are lined with white salt crystals, and the lake water is clear with a greenish tint. You can clearly see that the lakebed has also turned white due to crystallization. Many naturally formed salt pillars grow in the lake, making the scenery truly beautiful. Especially on sunny days, the surrounding scenery, the sky, and the white clouds are all reflected in the lake,It's a great place for photography. When playing on the salt bridge, you can choose how long you want to go forward. Once you have had enough fun, you can return and end the activity.Golmud · 64.9 km from downtown

Qinghai Lake is called "Qinghai Lake" in Tibetan (meaning "blue sea"). Located in the northeastern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, within Qinghai Province, it is formed byQilian MountainsDatong Mountain,Riyue Mountain and South Qinghai MountainFormed by fault subsidence, it is one of China's largest inland lakes and the origin of Qinghai Province's name. The lake covers a vast area, with a circumference of approx. 360 km. Its waters are boundless, azure, and ethereal. Surrounded by mountains, the lakeshore blends into expansive grasslands. Qinghai Lake boasts spectacular views and numerous attractions, making it a key destination in Qinghai. Natural environment: Qinghai Lake features a plateau continental climate with abundant sunlight and intense radiation. Winters are cold, summers are cool, warm seasons are brief, and cold seasons are prolonged. Spring brings frequent strong winds and sandstorms. Rainfall is scarce, concentrated in the warm season, with distinct wet and dry periods. This climate creates unique beauty in each season. The lake's color shifts with weather and light, sometimes displaying multiple hues in a single day. Scenery varies by season, with the ideal visiting period from April to August. July and August are particularly stunning, as vast rapeseed fields bloom along the shore, their golden yellow contrasting beautifully with the endless blue waters. In addition, when Qinghai Lake is frozen for thousands of miles in winter, you can also experience a different kind of natural grandeur. Historical legend: It is said that over 1,000 years ago, the Tang Dynasty and Tibet formed a marriage alliance, with Princess Wencheng marrying the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo. Before her departure, the Tang emperor gave her a sun-moon treasure mirror that could reflect images of her hometown. On the journey, the princess missed her hometown and took out the mirror, indeed seeing the long-lost Chang'an. Tears welled up in her eyes. However, she suddenly remembered her mission and resolutely threw the mirror away. Unexpectedly, when it hit the ground, a golden light flashed, and it transformed into Qinghai Lake. Attraction introduction: Some attractions have been developed around Qinghai Lake. South of the lake is the main attraction, Qinghai Lake Erlangjian scenic area, where you can take a boat tour. East of the lake lies the famousRiyue Mountain and Daotang Riveretc.; to the north there areJinyintan and the atomic cityand other attractions. In addition, when touring around Qinghai Lake, nearby attractions such as those west of the lake are usually included.Chaka Salt Lake, Hubei'sRapeseed flowers in MenyuanEtc. Ways to explore: You can visit just one side of Qinghai Lake or take a circular tour around it. Most travelers choose the south side for a simple lake view, where the grassland is lush and the scenery is stunning. For a circular tour, you can take a private charter from Xining and travel clockwise, which is also the direction local Tibetans follow for their lake pilgrimage.China · Gonghe

Wusute Yadan Geological Park

7.8
4.5/5
4.6k reviews
Wusute Yadan Geological Park is located in the northwest of Qaidam Basin, Qinghai, between Dongtai Jinaier Lake and Xitai Jinaier Lake. It is a rare water yadan view in the depths of the Gobi and a highly anticipated stop on the Greater Qinghai-Gansu Loop. This yadan cluster was originally a dry landform with mounds ranging from over ten to several dozen m in height, shaped like fleets, castles, and pyramids. Later, the Nalinggele River originating from the Kunlun Mountains changed its course due to mountain floods, and the water submerged the low-lying yadan area, creating the current wonder of turquoise waters embracing earthen mounds. As waterbirds and wild ducks gather in large numbers during spring and fall, locals call this water area "Duck Lake," also known as the "Lake of a Hundred Birds and a Thousand Islands." The park tour is connected by sightseeing buses, with stops including the sea-viewing platform, Penglai fairy island, West Sea fleet and golden beach. Among them, the "West Sea fleet" is a neatly arranged yardang cluster resembling a fleet formation, with extremely high recognition. The sea-viewing platform is ideal for overlooking the lake, especially during sunrise or sunset when sunlight turns the mounds golden, blending with their reflections to create a castle-like illusion floating on the lake—a prime time for photographers. Taking a cruise through the yardangs allows close observation of wind-eroded rock layers from the water, offering a "boat sailing through mountains" experience. Besides cruises, camel rides and desert off-road motorcycles are long-term activity options in the park. The park covers a vast area, ideal for slowing down and exploring at a leisurely pace. Don't miss the mornings and evenings when the light changes dramatically. The local plateau climate is dry with strong UV radiation and large temperature differences between day and night. Bringing sun protection and a windproof jacket before departure will make your experience more comfortable.Golmud · >100 km from downtown

The attraction integrates salt lake views and salt culture with ancient Qiang-Jingpo culture and Dorbed Mongolian culture, creating a comprehensive tourist destination featuring salt lake sightseeing, unique salt culture experiences, and eco-friendly vacations. The majestic two-humped camels, carrying salt bags, walk atop the pristine white salt piles, with the salt sculpture appearing incredibly lifelike. Walk through the commercial street to reach the Munao Zongge Square, where you must follow the totems on the square's ceremonial pillars to explore the origins of Chaka salt culture. At the southern end of the square, an 800-meter-long boardwalk extends deep into the salt lake. Designed in the shape of Gesang flowers, its farthest extension resembles a phoenix ready to take flight, earning it the name "Danfeng Chaoyang" (Phoenix Greeting the Sun). Experience the sacred and magical Sky Mirror Salt Lake up close. The outer lake resembles a vast blue sea, while the mirror lake shines like emerald jade. Due to varying salt concentrations, this creates a unique "two-tone lake" view. The mirror lake features distinctive walkways with creative designs, including [Descending Koi], [Four-Leaf Clover], [Eternal Diamond], and [Salt Heart Path]. The train on the lake perfectly recreates the iconic water railway scene from classic anime, harmonizing with the salt lake and sky to evoke a fairytale romance. Chaka Salt Lake at night is a favored observation spot for international stargazers and ranks among the top ten photography bases along the "Golden Silk Road". Here, you don't need to look up to see the starry sky—it surrounds you completely. It's a romantic stroll under the stars, a snapshot of timeless moments. The sunset at Chaka Salt Lake is unlike any other in the world - where ethereal hues fill your vision and gentle breezes intoxicate the evening glow. The scenery at Chaka Salt Lake is quite nice for taking photos. The scenery is very weather-dependent. After playing for a while, I learned how to take pictures of reflections. Riding the little train can save a lot of energy. Wearing red boots and walking around the salt lake is quite eye-catching.

It was a bit cloudy the day I went. It's the largest of the three salt lakes, and the apple-green water is beautiful. It's my top recommendation of the three; aside from not allowing swimming, it's much better than Chaka Salt Lake. It also has reflections, a true green mirror of the sky.

Sisters! I was absolutely blown away by the beauty of Qinghai Lake! 😭 📍Address: No. 151, National Highway 109, Gonghe County, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province I was stunned by the scenery the moment I stepped off the bus! Under the blue sky and white clouds, the lake water was crystal clear. Flocks of seagulls soared freely over the lake. 🕊️ Every snapshot looked like a professional photograph. 📸 Standing by the lake, watching the seagulls swimming on the water, and occasionally flying over to greet you, the feeling of harmony between humans and nature was incredibly healing. ✨ The weather was perfect too! ☀️ A gentle breeze, perfect sunshine, no need to worry about getting sunburned. The air was so fresh you couldn't help but take a deep breath. If you're planning a trip to Qinghai Lake, I highly recommend choosing a sunny day. Qinghai Lake under the blue sky and white clouds will definitely be a visual feast! #QinghaiLake #QinghaiTourism #NorthwestTravel #QinghaiLakeSeagulls #HealingScenery

I think no one could resist a lake like this. Emerald Lake isn't greatly affected by the weather; it was cloudy when we went, but we still managed to capture beautiful green and blue hues in our photos. Personally, I think the observation deck is definitely worth a visit (it costs 25 yuan per person). Whether or not to take the sightseeing bus is up to you; if you have enough time, you can skip it, but because I was in a rush, I opted for it, and the experience was excellent.

We came during the off-season and stayed at a hotel within the scenic area on October 30th. Staying at a hotel within the scenic area allows for two days of sightseeing, multiple rides on the sightseeing bus, and entry into the scenic area. The weather was great that day, and the scenery was beautiful. Due to time constraints, we visited each sightseeing bus stop first. The last stop was quite close to the hotel, and we could walk around to watch the sunset. On the morning of October 31st, we planned to go to the Eye of Yadan, but it got too cold, so we didn't go. The hotel breakfast during the off-season was average, with limited variety. The hotel room was quite large, though. There was cigarette ash on the bedside table and some dirt on the bed, so we immediately asked the staff to change the blankets.

I stumbled upon these pictures online and immediately added Mangya to my itinerary before embarking on the Qinghai-Gansu loop. We entered the scenic area in the evening. The weather was so-so that day; thankfully, the sun came out later, but there was no sunset. The visual impact inside was still breathtaking, though the photos seem to show it even more beautifully than it appears in person. Bringing a drone would have been even better for aerial photography. We didn't visit Rouge Mountain separately; the red color wasn't as pronounced there, and the online pictures seem to have been edited.

Chaka is divided into Chaka Sky Mirror and Chaka No. 1. Sky Mirror is the older scenic area, more crowded, with complete facilities and equipment, great photo opportunities, and better management, but definitely more crowded with long queues. Sky No. 1 is a newly developed scenic area, less crowded, quieter, allowing for more leisurely photography, but the scenery is far inferior, and management is practically nonexistent. Choose the scenic area based on your needs.

Aiken Spring, known as the "Eye of the Devil," was discovered during the early days of the People's Republic of China when crossing Lop Nur, but it was also recorded in Qing Dynasty documents as early as the early 19th century! The wetlands along the way from Mangya to Aiken Spring are also very beautiful.

Having seen the Zhangye Danxia Landform before, I was still amazed by the Delingha Rainbow Danxia Star Valley. Its colors are deeper and richer than Zhangye's, and its landforms are more varied. The only drawback is the transportation; some sections are bumpy and difficult to travel for an hour.
