Hengdian World Studios is located in Hengdian Town, Dongyang, in central Zhejiang Province, adjacent to Yiwu, which is famous for its small commodity market. It is one of the largest film and television shooting bases in China and is known as "China's Hollywood." It is not actually a single city, but rather composed of multiple attractions scattered throughout and around the town, such as the Qin Palace, Ming and Qing Palace Garden, Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival, Guangzhou Street/Hong Kong Street, and Dream Valley. Qin and Han palaces, Song Dynasty streets, Ming and Qing palaces, and modern trading ports are all gathered in one town, making walking through it feel like traveling back and forth between different dynasties. Films such as "Hero," "The Promise," and "Curse of the Golden Flower" were born in the Qin Palace, while hit palace dramas like "Palace," "Empresses in the Palace," and "Scarlet Heart" were mostly filmed in the Ming and Qing Palace Garden. It is a unique daily scene here to frequently bump into film crews at work on the streets and see extras dressed in ancient costumes passing by. Each attraction has distinct highlights: The Qin palace was built for filming "The emperor and the assassin," featuring imposing high platforms and grand halls—the iconic sword duel scene from "Hero" was shot here, now adapted into the live stunt show "Heroes' duel." The riverside scene at Qingming festival attraction brings Zhang Zeduan's Northern Song Bianliang to life, with rainbow bridges, Bian river, and Song-dressed NPCs roaming among taverns and teahouses; its signature performance "Dream of Bianliang" recreates bustling street life through ancient magic tricks. The Ming-Qing palace emulates Beijing's forbidden city with layered vermilion walls and golden roofs—familiar sights for fans of Qing dynasty dramas—while the multimedia show "Forbidden city chronicles" condenses centuries of imperial history. Guangzhou street·Hong Kong street revives old Canton and colonial Hong Kong (1840s-early 20th century), featuring the lively aquatic action show "Raging sea rivalry." Other areas include Dazhi temple, Pingyan cave dwellings, and Chinese cultural park—each offering unique exploration. The attractions are some distance apart, so you can usually only visit two or three in a day. If you have enough time, consider staying overnight: explore palaces and encounter film crews during the day, then head to the dream valley themed around nightlife in the evening. Besides amusement facilities, it features live performances, "The dream of Taiji" and "Mountain torrents", which are the highlights of Hengdian at night. The film studio has so many attractions that a 1-day tour may only cover 2-3 attractions. If time permits, we recommend staying overnight to explore at a leisurely pace and catch more shows—only then can you truly experience the charm of Hengdian.

[Jiuzhou Qingyan] The plaque of "Jiuzhou Qingyan" was inscribed by Emperor Yongzheng. "Jiuzhou" was the ancient Chinese term for the entire land of China, while "Qingyan" refers to a peaceful and prosperous era, symbolizing national stability and enduring sovereignty, reflecting the Qing emperors' aspiration for a thriving nation. Located in the western part of the Old Summer Palace on the central axis of the attraction, between the Front Lake and the Back Lake, it consists of multiple structures. The foremost is the five-bay Yuanmingyuan Hall, followed by the seven-bay Fengsanwusi Hall and the seven-bay Jiuzhou Qingyan Hall. To the east is the Tiandi Yijiachun complex, and to the west are buildings like Le'anhe. It served as the emperor's residence and was also an important venue for handling state affairs, hosting banquets, and receiving foreign dignitaries. [Tianchi waterfall] The "Tianchi waterfall" features cold-resistant and long-lived dry willows as its theme, situated between two mountains, combining movement and stillness. This 150 m wide and 35 m high Tianchi waterfall before your eyes is a masterpiece of Hengdian. The curved water curtain hangs on the cliff, cascading down like a white silk scroll, with the "splashing" sound resembling a grand symphony of looms, presenting a magnificent spectacle that fully showcases the beauty of motion. Hongci Yonghu (Eternal Blessing of Great Kindness), also known as Anyou Palace, is a large temple garden that served as the imperial ancestral temple during the Qing Dynasty, embodying the concept of "filial piety." The name "Hongci Yonghu" conveys the meaning of "vast kindness and eternal prayers for peace and blessings." We also call it Cuibai Garden (Evergreen Cypress Garden) due to its theme of evergreen cypresses, with many pine and cypress trees planted throughout. This entire attraction covers an area of approx. 4500 m². During the Qing Dynasty, it functioned as the imperial ancestral temple, commonly known as the "Small Imperial Ancestral Temple," where Emperor Qianlong enshrined portraits of his grandfather and father, modeled after the Han Dynasty's "original temple" system. After Qianlong's death, his portrait was also enshrined here. Filial piety, a Confucian [Great fountains] The great fountains feature a giant stone niche as the backdrop, with lion head carvings beneath the central arch spraying water to form a seven-tiered cascade, falling into an oval chrysanthemum-shaped fountain pool in front. A bronze sika deer stands in the pool, its eight-branched antlers spraying water, while five bronze dogs on each side shoot water jets toward the deer, creating splashing waves. At the eastern and western ends, bronze beasts with curled tails appear to chase the deer, commonly known as "hunting dogs pursuing a deer." [Haiyue Kaijin] Built during the Qianlong era, Haiyue Kaijin stands on a circular island where emperors and empresses often visited to enjoy panoramic views during crisp fall days. The poetic line "From afar, it resembles a mirage; up close, it feels like ascending to a fairyland" depicts this ethereal wonder within the Old Summer Palace. In the newly restored Changchun Garden, Haiyue Kaijin is surrounded by water on all sides, with its majestic and resplendent architecture serving as an ideal vantage point for travelers. [Ruyi Pavilion - Ruyi tea party] Embrace a poetic summer at this lotus-themed rendezvous! Check in at the dreamy thousand-lotus wonderland with classical Chinese aesthetics, where every step reveals picture-perfect scenes worthy of a photoshoot. Savor refreshing lotus ice drinks and aromatic floral teas that capture summer's essence on your palate. Be mesmerized by immersive tea ceremony performances blending ancient melodies with elegant artistry, letting you experience refined Chinese slow living amid the fragrance of lotus blooms. [Haiyue kaijin - Lotus breeze water treading] A summer-limited water carnival is here! Stroll on the cool floating bridge and immerse yourself in the bamboo raft flute NPC's Chinese-style performance, with melodious flute music accompanying the murmuring stream, creating a full atmosphere. Unlock family-friendly water-treading fun, splashing and playing with your family to enjoy the summer coolness. There's also an exciting water fight to kick off, with water splashing everywhere, unlocking a refreshing new summer stress-relief experience suitable for all ages, with non-stop fun!

Hengdian World Studios - The Palace of Emperor Qin

The Palace of Emperor Qin is located in Hengdian World Studios, built in 1997 for renowned director Chen Kaige's historical epic film "The Emperor and the Assassin." This attraction can be considered the cradle of numerous blockbuster films and historical dramas, with nearly a hundred productions filmed here, including "Hero," "A Step into the Past," "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," "Beauty's Rival in Palace," "The Promise," "The Legend of Mi Yue," "The Untamed," "Joy of Life," "One and Only," "Luoyang," "Chinese Paladin 3," "The Empress of China," and "Nirvana in Fire." The Palace of Emperor Qin is modeled after the main palace of the Qin Dynasty—Xianyang Palace. This massive attraction features intricate architecture and meticulous layout, boasting 27 majestic palaces with towers at every turn. The towering walls and grand halls perfectly capture the awe-inspiring ambition of Emperor Qin Shi Huang in unifying the six warring states and establishing China's first empire. The main attraction of the site is the Hall of Four Seas United as One, divided into the front hall, middle hall, and rear hall, stretching over 120 meters in depth. Majestic and towering, this was where the Qin emperor held court and conducted state affairs. It served as a filming location for Zhang Yimou's movie "Hero" and the popular Hong Kong TV series "A Step into the Past." Today, visitors can dress in costumes and sit on the throne for photos (fee required). The central area of the hall has been transformed into a massive wishing pool by the attraction, glittering with coins tossed in by visitors. In front of the hall, actors perform daily reenactments of the First Emperor's coronation procession on the 99-step staircase. The East View Tower next to the Hall of Unification was once the filming location for the movie "Hero." Inside the West View Tower, you can watch "Dreaming Back to Qin and Han." Additionally, at the Dragon Emperor's Adventure Theater near the West Palace Gate, you can experience the 4D film "Dragon Emperor's Adventure," which is based on the thrilling plot of the Hollywood movie "The Mummy 3." Additionally, to the west of The Palace of Emperor Qin stands the Huayang Terrace, the palace of the Yan Kingdom, which contrasts sharply in style with The Palace of Emperor Qin. This makes the filming site at The Palace of Emperor Qin not only a representation of Qin and Jin culture but also a showcase of Yan and Zhao architectural styles. One site, two palaces, highly condensed. Next to the Huayang Terrace is "Han Street," fully displaying the street scenes of the Qin and Han periods. However, both attractions are designated filming zones for production crews and are usually closed to visitors. Of course, if you're lucky, you might even spot a few celebrities.

Absolutely stunning! I found so much more than I expected. Full-scale replicas of European monuments, temples, palaces… simply incredible! The recreation of the Old Summer Palace is truly breathtaking. It’s majestic, yet it’s still impossible to imagine just how magnificent these gardens must have been before their destruction. For some reason, the park wasn’t crowded at all, so I could explore everything at my own pace and enjoy a peaceful, relaxing walk.An absolutely wonderful park and a fantastic place to spend the day!

A very nice place to visit and definitely worth the ticket price! The place is HUGE, so you’ll need a full day to explore all the attractions. Buggy rentals are available, but you’ll need to rent them separately at each scenic area, which can be quite pricey. Be prepared for lots of walking if you decide not to rent one! Overall, it’s a great place to visit and worth the experience. ✨

Came here with my sister and did a day trip. I enjoyed most party of it. I was able to rent a trolly for each site, which makes traveling and hanging around so worth it because I don’t have to walk. I loved that it was not crowded and it was not packX weather was also great. Only thing I didn’t like was that they had dragon floaty everywhere and it was hard to take beautiful pictures with them in the background. I will definitely visit again.

It wasn't quite what I expected, but overall it was okay. Dream Valley was a bit more fun; the rest was mostly for sightseeing. The kids weren't that interested, especially the ancient costume makeup and photo shoot experiences. Definitely avoid the makeup service next to the Ming and Qing Palace gate—it costs three times more than makeup at the Qingming Riverside Scene or other places! The clothes are old, tattered, and there are so many people!

After two days of playing in Hengdian, I finally went to Mengquan Valley to soak in the hot springs to relieve the fatigue of traveling. Mengquan Valley Hot Springs has a water park, a wave pool and many separate hot springs. The children had a lot of fun playing there.

The Yuanming New Garden in Hengdian is truly amazing! A 1:1 replica of the "Garden of Gardens," the Spring Garden boasts red walls and yellow tiles, and the expansive Fuhai Lake. The Summer Garden features Western-style buildings, the Grand Fountain, and the twelve zodiac animal head fountains—absolutely breathtaking. There are also immersive palace performances throughout the day, and taking photos in Hanfu (traditional Han clothing) is incredibly photogenic. It's both beautiful and fun, definitely worth a special trip!

The kids had a lot of fun, and there were many performances. We watched the sea lion show at Yijing Garden, and there were also iron flower shows and rainstorms and flash floods in the evening. The iron flower show was very shocking, and I especially liked the fireworks part. The rainstorm and flash floods with tons of heavy water pouring down were very shocking. It was one of the better performances we have seen recently.
