Mount Huangshan is famous for its long history. "You would not want to visit mountains after visiting the Five Sacred Mountains, and you would not want to visit the Five Sacred Mountains after visiting Huangshan." Xu Xiake, a great traveler and geographer of the Ming Dynasty, twice ascended Huangshan to witness its magnificence, exclaiming it as "a wonder in life." Dramatic Pines, grotesque rocks, sea of clouds, and hot springs are known as the “Four Musts” of Huangshan. They are the uncanny workmanship of nature and cannot be missed. In addition, the haze, snow scene, and sunrise are unique landscapes of Huangshan. Each landscape has its unique beauty and makes you feel like you are in a fairyland.Huangshan City · 40 km from Jingde

Jiangcun, literally the "river hamlet" in Chinese, is located in the township if Baidi, Jingde County. It is also known by another name - the Jingao Village, literally meaning "the village of the legendary golden sea turtle". The village was built some time from the late Sui Dynasty into the early years of the Tang Dynasty, thus making it a historic village with over a thousand years of history. Quite a few sites of Hui-style architecture, dating back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, can also be found inside the village, such as the Pugong Shrine, the Shrine of the Dutiful Son, and the Father and Son Scholar Memorial. The village has also produced many great people throughout the ages, including the great medical scientist Jiang Xishun, the Imperial Academy editor Jiang Zhiyi and the mathematician Jiang Zehan.Jingde · 16 km from downtown

Zhuwang Village is an ancient village built more than 1,300 years ago. It is one of the five ancient civilized villages in Jingde County. All the houses are Hui-style buildings. It has a profound cultural heritage, a long human history, and unique architectural landscape. It is said to be the residence of the descendants of Zhu Xi, a great Neo-Confucianist in the Song Dynasty. There are 47 preserved ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The layout of the residential buildings is reasonable and unique, with a typical Hui-style architectural style. There are also well-preserved private schools - "Fushan Academy" and "Chazihao" old pawnshops. The Zhuxi River in Zhuwang Village was dug by the ancestors of the Zhu family at that time, presenting a unique north-south water system. There are nine wells in the river and on the riverside that were used for drinking water at that time. There are thirteen stone bridges built with huge bluestones on the river. The nine wells and thirteen bridges are called "Nine Wells and Thirteen Bridges". According to the legend of the older generation in Zhuwang Village, nine Jinshi will be born in Zhuwang Village, and the Zhu family will have thirteen dynasties. The "Xianyuntan" in the upper reaches of Zhuxi River is where Zhu Zedan, one of the two Hanlin brothers Zhu Zedan and Zhu Zebo, studied with the moon. The four characters "Xianyuntanying" written by Zhu Zedan himself are clearly visible, and the ruins of the ancient stage beside the pond are vaguely visible. "Longtan Waterfall" is a three-fold cloth; "Guanyin Temple" and "Dragon King Temple" express the ancient people's hope for the prosperity of their offspring and good weather. Zhuwang Village was established nearly a thousand years ago, and the folk customs are simple. There are mainly several surnames, Zhu, Wang, Fang, Lv, Zhong, and Liu. The majority of them are surnamed Zhu, who are descendants of Zhu Xi (1130-1200), a Neo-Confucianist in the Southern Song Dynasty. The village is full of Hui-style buildings, with blue bricks, black tiles, and horse-head walls. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there were two ancestral halls, four temples for land, Guanyin, and Prince, and two chastity archways. Famous business names include "Caizi", "Qianyuan", and "Xinglong". During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Zhuwang Village was prosperous, with towering stone archways, majestic ancestral halls, incense-filled temples, ancient music on the stage, and merchants and shops. According to legend, there was also a master of environmental layout who made a legend. It is said that the Zhu family offended the Cai family because the Zhu family built a Caijia Bridge on the Huishui River. The pigs (Zhu) crossed the bridge and ate all the vegetables (Cai), causing the Cai family to decline. In order to vent their anger, the Cai family asked a geographer to persuade them to dig an artificial river in the middle of Zhuwang Village. Imagine, if the pig (Zhu) was opened, would it still be alive? Legends are legends, and they cannot withstand scrutiny, let alone verification. But this thousand-year-old village still has its unique charm, and it has survived through ups and downs to this day.Jingde · 9.5 km from downtown

The ancient city of Huizhou is located in Shexian County.LianjiangNorth Bank, originally built in the Qin Dynasty, became the seat of the ancient Huizhou Prefecture after the Tang Dynasty. Among the several city gates of Huizhou Ancient City, the Nanqiao Tower is quite unique, with 13 pairs of pillars forming the gate frame, arranged in a row inside the gate opening to support the tower. It is said that this "row of pillars" is the authentic city gate style of the Northern Song Dynasty. The Xu Guo Stone Archway, located inside the East Watchtower (Yanghe Gate), is the essence of the entire ancient city, built in the twelfth year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1584 AD). The archway has eight pillars, with a cross-section shaped like the Chinese character "口" (kou), creating a three-dimensional structure. Both the four exterior and four interior sides can be viewed. Twelve stone lions guard the base of the pillars, and the upper part features exquisite stone carvings. West Lake

4.7/5
37.4k reviews
West Lake is undoubtedly the epitome of Hangzhou's beauty. The famous "Ten scenes of West Lake" surround its shores, where nature and culture complement each other, forming the core area of Hangzhou tourism. You don't need to visit every attraction - instead, spend half a day or a full day strolling along the lake. However you choose to enjoy it, the experience will surely lift your spirits. West Lake is the core attraction of Hangzhou, surrounded by clouds and mountains on three sides and the city on one side. The Su Causeway and Bai Causeway stretch across the lake, dividing it into several water areas. The lakeside scenery is highlighted by the "Ten Scenes of West Lake" from the Southern Song Dynasty, along with the later "New Ten Scenes" and "Three Additional Scenes," featuring over a hundred attractions along the shore and mountains. Pavilions, temples, pagodas, gardens, causeways, and islands complement the distant mountains and nearby waters, while legends like the Broken Bridge where Lady White Snake met Xu Xian add a layer of storytelling to the landscape. West Lake extends east from Songmuchang in Hangzhou and the north of Baolu Road turning to Shaoniangong Square, passing Baisha Road, Huancheng West Road, Hubin Road, and Nanshan Road to the south of Wansong Ridge, covering all attractions including Wu Mountain, Ziyang Mountain, and Yunju Mountain. To the south, it stretches from Gulou along the eastern foothills of Wu Mountain, Ziyang Mountain, and Yunju Mountain, passing Fengshanmen and Fenghuangshan Road, then following the West Lake water diversion channel to the north bank of the Qiantang River, turning to the Coral Sand Reservoir and ending north of Liufangling. To the west, it runs from Liufangling, Zhugan Mountain, Jiuqu Ridge, and Mingren Ridge to Meiren Peak, Beigaofeng, Lingfeng Mountain, and east of the ridge line of Laohe Mountain. To the north, it follows the foothills of Laohe Mountain (west wall of Zhejiang University), turns 30 m north of Qingzhiwu Road, connects to Yugu Road, Zhejiang University Road, and Shuguang Road, ending south of Songmuchang. West Lake has over 100 attractions, renowned for its "Ten scenes of West Lake", "New ten scenes of West Lake" and "Three reviews · Ten scenes of West Lake". West Lake overview You can explore West Lake on foot, by cruise, on electric bikes, via self-drive, or by riding. Among these, electric bikes are the most convenient and effortless option, with hop-on-hop-off sightseeing vehicles circling the entire lake. Riding along the lakeshore is romantic and leisurely, with many public bike rental spots available. For a boat tour, there are nearly 10 docks around the lake offering various vessels and routes. We highly recommend taking a cruise to Three Pools Mirroring the Moon at the lake center while enjoying the scenic views. Alternatively, you can hail a hand-rowed boat for a more flexible experience with a boatman guiding your tour. North line scenery The north shore of West Lake gathers quite a few attractions, usually starting from the remnant snow on broken bridge at the northeast corner and heading west all the way to Yuewang Temple. You can walk along Bai Causeway to Solitary Hill, visiting cultural attractions like Xiling Seal Engravers' Society, Zhejiang Provincial Museum, Chinese Seal Art Museum, and Zhongshan Park's Crane Pavilion. Enjoy authentic West Lake vinegar fish at Louwailou Restaurant, then cross Xiling Bridge to leave the island - Yuewang Temple and Breeze-ruffled lotus at Quyuan Garden are just a short distance away. If it's a summer day with strong sunlight, it is recommended to stroll along Beishan road, hiding under the dense shade of trees to admire the curve of Broken bridge and the swaying weeping willows on Bai causeway opposite. There are many entrances along the way leading to Precious stone hill, where you can hike for views, and descend to reach Yuewang temple. Yuewang square has many small shops for snacks, and the Impression West Lake show here in the evening is also worth watching. If you have ample time and energy, you can also head to Su causeway from here for a walk to enjoy the panoramic view of West Lake. Southeast coast (Lakeside-Nanshan Road) Another area with a concentration of attractions is the Hubin Road-Nanshan Road along the southeastern coast. Hubin Road is located at the junction between Hangzhou's urban area and the attraction, offering views of West Lake, a dock for West Lake cruises, and the iconic music fountain. The advantage of Hubin Road is its quick access from the attraction to the downtown business district, making it suitable for travelers with a tight itinerary to make a short stop. Head south from Hubin road and walk along Nanshan road, where you can visit attractions like Orioles singing in the willows, Long bridge, Leifeng pagoda, Evening bell at Nanping hill, and Viewing fish at flower harbor. The distance between adjacent attractions is not far, so you can walk or take a sightseeing bus or public transport, which are also convenient. You can arrange a day to visit a few of them according to your preference. Among them, Leifeng pagoda and Evening bell at Nanping hill can be visited in the evening. Listening to the bell at Jingci temple and overlooking the night view of West lake from Leifeng pagoda are both great experiences.China · Hangzhou

The Ancient Huizhou Cultural Tourism Area is located in Huangshan City, Anhui Province, the birthplace of Huizhou culture. The ancient city of Huizhou is the seat of the Huizhou government and is one of the four best-preserved ancient cities in China. The Tangyue Archway Group is the largest archway community in China. It consists of seven closely connected stone arches in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Tang Mo has the reputation of the first village of Shuikou Garden in China. The idyllic scenery is elegant and chic, and the French romantic style is closely related to the ancient villages of Huizhou. Chengkan is known as the first Fengshui village in China. It integrates natural landscapes as a whole. According to the location and layout of the Eight Diagrams Fengshui theory in the Book of Changes, it interprets the philosophical theory that the heaven and the earth are interdependent. The Qiankou Residential House is known as a living monograph of the folk architectural art of the Ming and Qing Dynasties in my country, and it is a collection of the most classic and representative Huizhou Residential Houses in Huizhou during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The Ancient Huizhou Cultural Tourism Area presents the "Hui culture", one of the three major regional cultures of China, perfectly and vividly to the world through the gathering of ancient city life, ancestral hall culture, archway culture, Huizhou merchant culture, village culture and residential culture. She County · 48 km from Jingde

If I had to climb one mountain in my lifetime, it would have to be Huangshan. The entire hike up and down took eight hours. Although the weather was uncooperative, with fog covering the entire day, I still felt the unique beauty of Huangshan. It was tiring but joyful, and I look forward to seeing it again.

Visit Zhuwang Village Ge Yan Today, it is a rare sunny day, a good weather for an outing. My mother took me to Zhuwang Village in Caijiaqiao Town, Jingde County, to explore the birthplace of the idiom "well water does not offend river water". This is an ancient village with a history of more than 1,300 years. In the afternoon, we went up along the Zhuxi River in Zhuwang Village and walked into the gate of Shaoxing Hall. We can see a typical Ming and Qing Hui-style building. In the small courtyard, the blue bricks, black tiles and horse head walls make the whole building bright and spectacular. Nine wells and thirteen bridges are a beautiful landscape in Zhuwang Village. Thirteen stone bridges made of huge granite slabs span the river, and there are nine wells of different shapes in the river. At the back door of Shaoxing Hall, we saw a very interesting scene. Next to the river, I saw a tall stone pillar with the words "well water does not offend river water" written on it. Next to it was a rectangular well without a well fence. This is the birthplace of the idiom "well water does not offend river water". What does the idiom "well water does not offend river water" mean? My mother and I visited a local old man, and the old man told me that it was because the river water rose in summer and receded in winter, and the well water rose in winter and receded in summer, and the well water and the river water did not communicate with each other, and they did not invade each other, which formed a unique natural landscape. After listening to the old man's words, I understood the origin of the idiom "well water does not offend river water". Then, my mother and I visited the house where Zhu Xi's descendants lived. This house is divided into two courtyards, which are 50 meters long in total. Do you think it is very big? And its architectural layout is reasonable and unique, with a typical Hui style of architecture After half a day of play, I have a better understanding of Zhuwang Village and benefited a lot. Classmates, after listening to my introduction, do you also want to travel to Zhuwang Village?

The Huizhou Prefectural Government Office truly lives up to its reputation as the core government office of ancient Huizhou. Restored to its original site according to Ming Dynasty regulations, its central axis layout is orderly and solemn, with the ceremonial gate, main hall, and second hall unfolding in sequence, showcasing the grandeur of an ancient government office. The exquisite Hui-style wooden structure and intricate carvings add to its charm. Visitors can also watch live court performances, gaining a direct experience of the ancient government office system. The office exudes a rich historical atmosphere, making it more than just a place for taking photos; it's a perfect opportunity to quietly appreciate the cultural heritage of Huizhou and a must-see cultural highlight in the ancient city of Huizhou.

As twilight descends over the white walls and black tiles of Chengkan, the intangible cultural heritage of fish lanterns slowly floats across the stone bridge. Radiant red carp dart along the shores of Yongxing Lake, their reflections shimmering on the water's surface, while fireworks burst in the night sky. Ancient village, lights, fish lanterns—in this moment, one understands the unique romance of China. A visit to Chengkan brings a life free of obstacles; may all paths ahead be smooth.

My second visit to West Lake was great; the boat tour was excellent. The dock was easy to find, the staff were very friendly, provided clear explanations, and helped with any issues. There were also sightseeing buses, which were nice but a bit pricey. Taking the boat tour and then walking around was both perfectly fine.

A combined ticket for the Tangyue Memorial Archway Complex and the Bao Family Garden is available. The Tangyue Memorial Archway Complex comprises seven archways from the Ming and Qing dynasties belonging to the Bao family. The stone carvings are rich in historical significance, and a guided tour is highly recommended. The Bao Family Garden primarily features Hui-style bonsai and can be visited briefly. The combined ticket costs 98 yuan, which is slightly high overall.

I actually went to Hongcun with low expectations. We had an extra afternoon and we knew that Hongcun was a popular tourist attraction. The pictures were pretty but we didn’t expect much. To my surprise, Hongcun was wonderful. The mansions were interesting to explore, the lake was absolutely beautiful, the stores were inviting. Despite being such a popular tourist attraction, the prices were reasonable and we left with heavy bags and a happy heart. Thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful village, would highly recommend!!
