The Kaifeng Museum is a comprehensive museum integrating cultural relic collection, preservation, research, exhibition, and social education. It houses over 80,000 cultural relics, covering various categories such as pottery, porcelain, bronze ware, calligraphy and painting, stone carving, jade ware, and lacquerware. The museum was first established on Sansheng street in 1962, on the former site left after the Henan museum moved to Zhengzhou. The old museum by Baogong lake opened in 1988, and in March 2018, it relocated to its current new site. The new museum's layout draws inspiration from the triple-city design of Kaifeng during the Northern Song dynasty, consisting of an outer perimeter, a circular inner courtyard, and a central main structure. Following the principle of "classical exterior, modern interior," lower surrounding buildings embrace the towering central pavilion. From a distance, it appears as a Song-style architectural complex, immersing visitors in the essence of Song culture even before entering. The Kaifeng museum was established in March 1962. Its original site was located on Sansheng street, built on the former site of the Henan museum after it moved to Zhengzhou. In 1986, a new museum was expanded by the scenic Baogong lake and opened to the public in September 1988, becoming a major cultural event in Kaifeng. In recent years, to promote the continued development and prosperity of Kaifeng's museum industry and the construction of Kaifeng as an international cultural tourism city, the new Kaifeng museum officially began construction in March 2014 and opened to the public in March 2018. The new Kaifeng museum is located on the north side of Zhengkai avenue between the fifth and sixth streets in the Kaifeng new district, adjacent to Zhongyi lake to the east, with a total construction area of 54,286 m². The overall architectural design highlights the triple-city layout characteristic of Kaifeng during the Northern Song dynasty, consisting of an outer perimeter, a circular inner courtyard, and a central main structure. The design follows the principle of "classical exterior, modern interior," with lower surrounding buildings embracing the towering central pavilion, reflecting the architectural features of Song dynasty building complexes. The first floor of the Kaifeng museum's Zhongyi lake section consists of a public service area, exhibition area, and cultural relic restoration area. The public service area includes: a visitor center, an academic lecture hall, an educational experience zone, a cultural and creative display center, a 4D cinema, and a VIP reception room. The exhibition area features six thematic exhibition halls—"New year paintings of Zhuxian town in Kaifeng: Artistic charm of woodblock prints," "Kaifeng's modern and contemporary calligraphy and painting masterpieces: Elegance of ink and color," "Millennium imprints: A selection of stone carvings from the collection," "Imperial splendor: Royal artifacts of the Ming and Qing dynasties," "The premier prefecture: A special exhibition on the Northern Song Kaifeng government office," and "Science and technology of the Song dynasty"—along with two temporary exhibition halls, covering a total area of 5000 m². The second floor consists of a basic exhibition area, meeting rooms, and office space. The total exhibition area on the second floor is 7355 m², featuring 8 exhibition halls, including "Kaifeng ancient history and culture exhibition: A millennium capital of eight dynasties," "Kaifeng memories: Modern and contemporary social life exhibition," and the Dasheng music and dance performance hall. Among these, the "Kaifeng ancient history and culture exhibition: A millennium capital of eight dynasties" covers an area of 4840 m², highlighting the history of the Northern Song Dynasty as the capital. Within this section, approx. 700 m² is dedicated to a special exhibition hall for the Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival, displaying various versions, creative forms, and materials of artifacts and historical materials related to the painting across different periods.

The Luoyang Museum of Ancient Tombs is the first museum of ancient tombs in the world. The museum is divided into three major exhibition areas: the tomb area of successive dynasties, the imperial tombs of the Northern Wei dynasty, and the Henan mural gallery. It houses dozens of tomb chambers from various periods of ancient China, all simulated and restored based on their original sites, and displayed in the underground exhibition area according to tomb structure. Visitors can closely observe and understand the internal environment of ancient tombs from multiple perspectives, including tomb chamber architecture, unearthed artifacts, tomb murals, brick carving art, and cultural relics. Burial areas of successive dynasties The burial areas of successive dynasties are located in the eastern part of the museum, divided into above-ground and underground sections, and are a highly distinctive part of the museum that attracts many visitors. The above-ground structure is a group of Han-style buildings, housing exhibition rooms such as the "typical tomb models of the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties" and the "sculpture group of the Han dynasty imperial funeral procession." The underground section features the relocated and restored 25 representative tombs from the Luoyang area, dating from the Western Han dynasty to the Song and Jin periods, with a total of several hundred artifacts on display, as well as a large quantity of murals. The various restored tombs (chambers) in the underground section were all relocated as a whole. The bricks and stones in the tombs were numbered on site by archaeologists before being dismantled, and then reassembled here one by one in their original form. Each tomb chamber is not far from the others, connected by passageways. You can walk through the passages, passing before the tomb chambers of different eras. These chambers, in all their varied forms and distinct architectural styles, reflect one aspect of ancient Chinese architectural art. The tomb chamber also displays replicas of many unearthed artifacts, such as pottery figurines and household vessels from the Northern Wei dynasty, and Tang dynasty sancai ceramics. The tomb chamber also contains epitaphs from the Western Jin, Northern Wei, Tang, and Song dynasties, as well as a rich variety of murals, such as the demon-beating scene, the woman opening the door, and the ascension to immortality, which can be regarded as treasures of ancient painting art. Imperial tombs of the Northern Wei dynasty Located in the western part of The Luoyang Museum of Ancient Tombs. This exhibition area is centered on the "Luoyang Museum of Ancient Tombs - Jingling" of Emperor Xuanwu of Northern Wei, Emperor Shizong, and consists of the relocated and restored tombs of Yuan Xing, Prince Wenxian of Qinghe, and Yuan Cha, Prince of Jiangyang. The burial mound of Luoyang Museum of Ancient Tombs - Jingling is circular, with a rammed earth mound over 20 m high. Visitors can walk down along the passage all the way to the center of the tomb chamber, where a coffin is placed, and there is nothing inside the coffin. The ceiling of Yuan Yi's tomb chamber is painted with an astronomical chart, which contains more than 300 stars. This chart is about 400 years earlier than the "Dunhuang Star Chart" and is precious physical material for the study of ancient Chinese astronomy. Mural gallery The Henan Mural Museum displays authentic tomb murals from multiple dynasties, including the Western Han, Eastern Han, Wei and Jin, Tang and Song, and Jin and Yuan. These murals feature clear images and a wide range of subjects, covering astronomy, geography, human affairs, and deities. The owners of the mural tombs range from emperors, concubines, and high-ranking officials to local minor officials and ordinary commoners.

It emphasizes a green, low-carbon, and sustainable development model, creating a "model of China, a temple of civilization" with cultural connotations and archaeological significance related to the Yin Ruins. Regarding the exhibition layout, the museum focuses on the theme of "The Great Shang Civilization," featuring three permanent exhibitions, four special exhibitions, and one unique immersive digital exhibition. The cliffside roller coaster hurtles along the cliff face, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the canyon as it plunges down – a truly unique experience. The cliffside swing overlooks a deep abyss, providing about two seconds of weightlessness – thrilling yet safe. Some young people remarked that their legs were weak but they still wanted to ride it again. The cable car and L-shaped cave elevator (reaching the cliff top in 52 seconds) alleviate the fatigue of the climb, requiring minimal physical exertion.

Teacher Zhou's professional explanations, both in detail and easy to understand, helped us understand the history of Baima Temple and its related Buddhist culture. It was a pity that two halls were under renovation, which we could only consider a minor disappointment, but it will serve as motivation for our next visit.

The ruins of Luoyang City during the Sui and Tang Dynasties are located in the suburbs of Luoyang City. Construction began during the reign of Emperor Yang of Sui, and its layout was modeled after the Sui Dynasty's Daxing City. At that time, it was known as the Eastern Capital or Tokyo. It served through the Sui, Tang, Five Dynasties, and Northern Song Dynasties, lasting for over 500 years, acting as the Eastern Capital of the Sui and Tang Dynasties and the Western Capital of the Northern Song Dynasty. During the reign of Emperor Yang of Sui, the palace city, imperial city, and outer city were built successively. Five wards were established south of the outer city, and three more were opened to the northeast. In the second year of the Qianfeng era of Emperor Gaozong of Tang (667 AD), the Yang Palace was built southwest of the imperial city.

The banks of the Bian River are brightly lit at night, which is very beautiful. There are also many performances along the way. After dinner, you can take a boat to enjoy the scenery, which is perfect. It costs 50 yuan per person, which is not bad. After boarding the boat, you can stroll around the Xisi Night Market and have a late-night snack.

From Yuntaishan, we boarded a bus bound for Luoyang. The journey was long — more than four hours on the road. We left at 2:30 pm and only arrived close to 7:00 pm, which meant our first day in Luoyang was largely consumed by travel. That evening, drained from the ride, I managed only a brief visit to Yingtianmen, illuminated against the night sky.The following day was devoted entirely to two of Luoyang’s most iconic sites: the Longmen Grottoes and the White Horse Temple. After exploring the temple, we caught bus no. 58 directly to Luoyi Ancient City. By then, the hours of walking through grottoes and temple grounds had left us physically exhausted. Still, the ancient city welcomed us with free admission and a promise of cultural immersion.Dinner was taken at a basement food court along Minzhu Street. By the time we finished, night had fallen, and Luoyi Ancient City had transformed. The streets glittered with lanterns, music pulsed through the air, and the atmosphere was electric. Crowds gathered near the lake to watch 天女散花 — the “Fairy Scattering Flowers” dance performance — though we chose not to linger.Luoyi Ancient City (洛邑古城) remains one of China’s most authentic living historic districts. Here, 3,000 years of dynastic history — from the Zhou to the Ming — can still be felt in its preserved city walls, pagodas, canals, and performances. It is not simply a relic of the past, but a vibrant cultural stage where history and daily life coexist.

This was an extremely satisfying guided tour. Originally a small group, it became a private tour due to a last-minute cancellation, which significantly enhanced the experience. Ms. Li was incredibly patient and her explanations were very detailed. She interacted well with my child throughout, providing appropriate guidance and stimulating his curiosity and desire to explore. She also offered encouragement and timely praise, giving my child positive motivation and further fueling his interest in learning about and exploring history. The museum exhibits were also very impressive. Ms. Li's explanations brought the entire three-story exhibition hall to life, making us feel incredibly close to the Shang Dynasty. We learned a great deal from the tour, and I am especially grateful to Ms. Li. My child and I both benefited immensely from this experience.
