Atomium

The Atomium stands on the Heysel Plateau in the Laeken district on the northern outskirts of Brussels. This landmark was built for the 1958 Brussels World's Fair and designed by engineer André Waterkeyn, embodying the era's optimistic vision of scientific progress. It represents an iron crystal's unit cell magnified 165 billion times: nine spheres, each about 18 m in diameter, symbolize the nine iron atoms in the cell, connected by steel tubes to form a giant cubic lattice. The top sphere rises approximately 102 m above the ground. Originally clad in aluminum, the spheres were refurbished with stainless steel shells during renovations from 2004 to 2006, now gleaming silver in sunlight. Initially designed as a temporary pavilion with a six-month lifespan, its popularity led to its preservation, making it one of Brussels' and Belgium's most recognizable symbols today. Visitors can take a high-speed elevator in the central tube, reaching the observation deck in the top sphere in about 20 seconds. On clear days, the skyline of Brussels, the National Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Koekelberg, and the Mini-Europe park below are clearly visible. Moving between spheres via escalators in the inclined tubes, guests can explore the ground sphere's permanent exhibition on the 1958 World's Fair, rotating art and design displays in other open spheres, and workshop spheres hosting activities for children. Due to safety concerns, the three outer upper spheres lack vertical support and are closed to visitors, meaning not all nine spheres are accessible. The top sphere also houses a panoramic restaurant, offering dining with views from about 100 m above ground. At night, LED strips along the meridians illuminate the spheres in alternating patterns, resembling electrons orbiting a nucleus, adding a unique steel silhouette to Brussels' nightscape.Brussels · 69.6 km from Yerseke

Giethoorn

Giethoorn is a water village where canals replace roads. Because of its crisscrossing waterways and lush greenery, it is known as the "Venice of the North." The village's name comes from the large number of goat horns unearthed by early residents while digging for peat; "Geytenhoren" in Dutch means "goat horn," which was later simplified to Giethoorn. The lake district where the village is located is itself a mark left by centuries of peat extraction, with the excavated trenches gradually developing into today's canal network. A major scenic view in the village is the thatched-roof farmhouses built along the river—the roofs are covered with reeds, complemented by wooden exterior walls and meticulously maintained gardens, scattered along both banks of the canal and connected by numerous small wooden bridges. Boating along the canals is the core way to experience the village; traveling through the tranquil waterways by small boat allows you to enjoy the view of the thatched-roof houses and pastoral scenery from the water. In addition to the waterways, you can also cycle along the forest paths to experience the village's pastoral atmosphere from another perspective.Netherlands · Giethoorn

Anne Frank House

Anne Frank House is the hiding place where Anne Frank and seven others hid from Nazi persecution during World War II. Anne spent over two years in hiding here and wrote the now-famous The Diary of a Young Girl. The building consists of a main house facing the canal and an annex at the rear: the main house was once the office of the spice company run by Anne's father, Otto Frank, and today, the office and warehouse have been restored to their wartime appearance; the annex is the famous "Secret Annex," with its entrance hidden behind a movable bookcase, and the eight people in hiding lived in the upper rooms of the annex. After the Frank family was arrested, the furniture and personal belongings in the Secret Annex were cleared out by the Nazi authorities. The museum features a diary exhibition displaying the original red-checkered diary Anne received for her 13th birthday, as well as her later notebooks, books of favorite quotes, and short story manuscripts.Netherlands · Amsterdam

Grand-Place of Brussels

598 reviews
Grand-Place of Brussels is the urban heart of Brussels and was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1998. The square is rectangular, approx. 100 m long and nearly 70 m wide, and is paved with granite. Most of the surrounding buildings were built in the late 17th century and still preserve their original appearance, bringing together a variety of architectural styles including Gothic, Baroque, and Louis XIV. One of the striking buildings on the square is the Brussels Town Hall, a typical Gothic building that reached its current scale after multiple expansions and renovations. The top of its spire is decorated with a sculpture of Saint Michael slaying a demon. The building with spires opposite the Town Hall is known as the "King's House" and now houses the Brussels City Museum. The gilded bronze statue of Everard 't Serclaes in a corner of the square is also worth noting; it commemorates the Brussels folk hero Everard 't Serclaes and depicts the scene of his death. Other buildings surrounding the square mostly belonged to historical guilds, and the facade of each guild building is decorated with sculptures of figures revered by the guild or symbolic animals. During the day, you can savor the beauty of the architecture. After nightfall, when the lights come on, the murals and carvings on the buildings shine brilliantly under the illumination, making it a great place for night photography.Brussels · 74.9 km from Yerseke

At the Rijksmuseum in the Netherlands, I was on the scene in Rembrandt's prime time, witnessed the open restoration of "The Night Watch," encountered Vermeer, and came across exquisite Delftware. I was deeply moved by the art of the Dutch Golden Age.

Taking this bus to Keukenhof Park to see the flowers is extremely convenient; the boarding point was easily found by following the map. The park is so beautiful in spring! The blooming tulips 🌷 and various other flowers 🌼🌹 are dazzling and vibrant in the sunlight; one day isn't enough to see them all! 🥰

My feedback regarding today’s visit to the aquarium:The lobby was poorly ventilated, and the area was overcrowded with long queues of visitors. The space should be properly ventilated to ensure a more comfortable experience for everyone.

Giethoorn truly resembles a fairytale town, with more waterways than roads, and small boats moored in front of every house. Low houses with reed-roofed roofs line the waterways, their gardens meticulously manicured. Renting a boat and rowing yourself is the most relaxing way to experience it, slowly gliding under small bridges, with meadows and wild ducks on either side. The main street is somewhat commercialized, but turning into the side streets brings tranquility, with only the sound of oars paddling through the water. It's best to visit on a sunny day; the slippery roads can be quite inconvenient on rainy days.

This windmill group is one of the two largest windmill groups in the Netherlands, but most tourists go to the windmill group near Amsterdam. This windmill group is relatively close to Rotterdam, and guests on Viking cruises are usually taken here for a visit. Viking cruises can dock very close to the attractions, so it is very labor-saving for tourists. Here you can not only take pictures outside the windmill, but also enter the windmill to see how it works.
