Fangyan Scenic Area

Fangyan scenic area is located about 20 km east of Yongkang, comprising four core attractions: Fangyan (Nanyan), Shigu liao, Wufeng, and Lingyan. Beyond its impressive danxia landform views, Fangyan is also revered by locals as a spiritual site for blessings. Uniquely, it honors not Buddhist deities but Hu Ze, a virtuous Song Dynasty official who benefited the region, with his shrine atop Fangyan mountain receiving continuous worship. Exploring the entire area typically takes 1-2 days, with separate admission tickets for each sub-attraction and complimentary round-trip shuttle service available, allowing visitors to customize their itinerary. Fangyan, Nanyan, and Wufeng are within walking distance. Among these, Fangyan is undoubtedly the highlight, sharing one admission ticket with adjacent Nanyan for combined visits. After Fangyan, visitors can walk to Wufeng academy, the birthplace of Yongkang school from Southern Song Dynasty. Shigu liao, a film base, is accessible from Nanyan but can be saved for day two if time is limited. At Fangyan's entrance, a large stone tablet bears Emperor Gaozong of Song's gilded inscription "He ling" for Hu. The 30-minute hike to Hu's shrine passes attractions like Luohan cave, Hupao spring, Baibujun cliff, and Feiqiao plank path, offering views of Fangyan's folded cliffs and distant winding staircases - iconic sights here. Beyond the "Heavenly gate" archway lies Tianjie street with vendors selling slightly overpriced ritual items. Past the "Thousand-man pit" memorial pavilion stands Guangci temple beside the renowned Hu shrine, the area's sole surviving ancient structure featuring exquisite carvings, where daily prayers continue. Returning to Heavenly gate, a fork leads to Nanyan's newly developed Hu culture park. Turning right after the mountain gate reveals stunning danxia valleys, including two round peaks resembling "granaries of the world" - a signature view. The wish-fulfilling pagoda offers panoramic vistas, while the square hosts annual temple fair performances. Fangyan's millennium-old temple fair, held on Hu's birthday (lunar August 13) and Double Ninth Festival, features martial arts displays ("da luohan"), folk music, and "eighteen butterflies" dances - major local events. After Nanyan, return via Heavenly gate to visit western Wufeng attraction. The five peaks attraction consists of five ring-shaped mountains, with the ruins of the five peaks academy being a site where renowned scholars like Zhu Xi once lectured. Currently, it features an exhibition on "academies and Chinese culture," which is worth visiting. The cliff inscription "Doushuai Terrace" handwritten by Zhu Xi is still faintly visible. About 3 km south of Fangyan, the shigu liao gained fame as a filming location for productions like "Demi-gods and semi-devils" and "The emperor in han dynasty," though it's also a natural danxia view. With luck, you might catch a film crew shooting there. Lingyan sees relatively fewer visitors but has temples for blessings. The street outside Fangyan scenic area is lined with incense shops, restaurants, and hotels, though the value and conditions are average. You can find more accommodation and dining options near Yongkang bus station. Yongkang's meat wheat cakes and tofu balls are local snack specialties not to be missed.Yongkang · 14.3 km from downtown

Xiandu Scenic Area

Xiandu Scenic Area is located in Jinyun, Lishui, Zhejiang, where the Hao River meanders through mountain valleys with nine winding turns. This landscape has long been praised as "possessing the elegance of Guilin, the wonder of Huangshan, and the precipitousness of Huashan." The attraction's name has an interesting origin: legend says during the Tang Tianbao era, colorful clouds enveloped Jinyun Mountain with faint celestial music, prompting Emperor Xuanzong to bestow the name "Xiandu" (immortal capital), which remains in use today. The centerpiece is the 100-meter-high Dinghu peak, a giant stone pillar resembling a bamboo shoot. Flanked by Buxu Mountain to the east and the Hao River to the west, this sheer column features a small lake and ancient pines atop its summit. Folklore claims the Yellow Emperor once refined elixirs here, and when he ascended to heaven on a dragon, his cauldron fell to form the lake—hence the name "Dinghu" (cauldron lake). From nearby Buxu Mountain's peak, visitors can closely observe this sky-piercing pillar. Across the river at Zhutan Mountain, morning mist often blankets the water, framing the stone peak, bridge, and reflections like a flowing ink painting—the setting for that widely circulated photo of an old farmer leading an ox across the stream. Along the Hao River lie attractions like Little Red Cliff, Niweng Cave, and Dufeng Academy: the former features reddish cliffs stretching along the river; Niweng Cave preserves cliff carvings across dynasties, notably the precious Tang-dynasty seal script inscription by calligrapher Li Yangbing; Dufeng Academy commemorates Zhu Xi's lectures during the Southern Song. Below Dinghu peak stands the Yellow Emperor Temple, hosting solemn sacrificial ceremonies annually during Qingming and Chongyang festivals. This natural scenery has long been a favored filming location, featured in hundreds of productions from "Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils" and "The Smiling, Proud Wanderer" to "Swords of Legends" and "The Journey of Flower"—many ethereal wuxia scenes were shot on location rather than in studios. While exploring, visitors might recognize familiar scenes from these dramas.Jinyun · 23.3 km from Yongkang

The Heyang Ancient Dwellings is a provincial-level historical and cultural protection zone in Zhejiang Province. It is located in the newly constructed village within the Xiandu Scenic Area of Jinyun County. Because he was from Xinyang in Henan, he chose the name Heyang for himself. The existing village layout of the one street and five lanes was designed during the Yuan Dynasty, while most of the builds were constructed later during the Ming and Qing Dynasties and are in the manor-style typical of ancient dwelling clan buildings.Jinyun · 18.6 km from Yongkang

Dinghu Peak is the core of Xiandu Scenic Area, the main scenic area of Xiandu Scenic Area. With Dinghu Peak as the center, there are Huangdi Temple, the main place for worshipping and paying homage to the ancestor of Chinese civilization in southern my country (a large-scale ceremony of worshipping Huangdi is held here every year), Buxu Mountain, Lianjin Creek, Yangfeng Island, Tongzi Peak, Yangzhi Pavilion, and the cliff inscription of "Dufeng Mountain Inscription" by Ye Qingchen. The area now uses light and shadow effects to show people a "dream fairyland" that integrates night, scenery, water and sky, expanding the space for night tourism activities at the scenic spot and becoming a major feature of the scenic spot.Dinghu Peak is the symbol of Xiandu. It has a base area of 2,468 square meters, a top area of 710 square meters, and a height of 170.8 meters. It is shaped like a spring bamboo shoot, rising from the ground and piercing the sky. It is also known as "Tianzhu Peak" and can be called "the best peak in the world" and "the best bamboo shoot in the world".In the Records of Famous Mountains written by Xie Lingyun of the Jin Dynasty, it is recorded that "beside Jinyun Mountain, there stands a solitary rock, 200 feet high, with a lake on the top and lotus flowers growing on it". No one has ever climbed up the steep cliff. According to legend, during the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, an old man who collected herbs risked his life to climb the mountain top. Since then, only one person has climbed up the mountain in the past 80 years.According to legend, Emperor Xuanyuan once placed a furnace on the top of the peak to make elixirs. When the elixir was ready, cranes danced. Emperor Huangdi rode a red dragon to heaven. His ministers wanted to follow him and scrambled to climb the dragon's whiskers. They fell to the ground and turned into a "dragon whisker pole". The dragon whisker pole grows on Dinghu Peak in Xiandu. Li Mingzhen of the Ming Dynasty recorded the dragon whisker pole in the Compendium of Materia Medica, saying that it can cure all diseases.Jinyun · 23.9 km from Yongkang

Hengdian World Studios

Hengdian World Studios is located in Hengdian Town, Dongyang, in central Zhejiang Province, adjacent to Yiwu, which is famous for its small commodity market. It is one of the largest film and television shooting bases in China and is known as "China's Hollywood." It is not actually a single city, but rather composed of multiple attractions scattered throughout and around the town, such as the Qin Palace, Ming and Qing Palace Garden, Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival, Guangzhou Street/Hong Kong Street, and Dream Valley. Qin and Han palaces, Song Dynasty streets, Ming and Qing palaces, and modern trading ports are all gathered in one town, making walking through it feel like traveling back and forth between different dynasties. Films such as "Hero," "The Promise," and "Curse of the Golden Flower" were born in the Qin Palace, while hit palace dramas like "Palace," "Empresses in the Palace," and "Scarlet Heart" were mostly filmed in the Ming and Qing Palace Garden. It is a unique daily scene here to frequently bump into film crews at work on the streets and see extras dressed in ancient costumes passing by. Each attraction has distinct highlights: The Qin palace was built for filming "The emperor and the assassin," featuring imposing high platforms and grand halls—the iconic sword duel scene from "Hero" was shot here, now adapted into the live stunt show "Heroes' duel." The riverside scene at Qingming festival attraction brings Zhang Zeduan's Northern Song Bianliang to life, with rainbow bridges, Bian river, and Song-dressed NPCs roaming among taverns and teahouses; its signature performance "Dream of Bianliang" recreates bustling street life through ancient magic tricks. The Ming-Qing palace emulates Beijing's forbidden city with layered vermilion walls and golden roofs—familiar sights for fans of Qing dynasty dramas—while the multimedia show "Forbidden city chronicles" condenses centuries of imperial history. Guangzhou street·Hong Kong street revives old Canton and colonial Hong Kong (1840s-early 20th century), featuring the lively aquatic action show "Raging sea rivalry." Other areas include Dazhi temple, Pingyan cave dwellings, and Chinese cultural park—each offering unique exploration. The attractions are some distance apart, so you can usually only visit two or three in a day. If you have enough time, consider staying overnight: explore palaces and encounter film crews during the day, then head to the dream valley themed around nightlife in the evening. Besides amusement facilities, it features live performances, "The dream of Taiji" and "Mountain torrents", which are the highlights of Hengdian at night. The film studio has so many attractions that a 1-day tour may only cover 2-3 attractions. If time permits, we recommend staying overnight to explore at a leisurely pace and catch more shows—only then can you truly experience the charm of Hengdian.Dongyang · 38.3 km from Yongkang

Zhutan Mountain

Zhutan Mountain is located in Xiandu Attraction. The main attractions include Xiandi, Huiweng Pavilion, Nine Dragon Wall, and Chaoran Pavilion. Xiandi: The long embankment between the two bridges is called Xiandi. The willows on both sides of Xiandi are swaying, and the long embankment paved with pebbles is both romantic and passionate. It is a popular place for local lovers to take wedding photos. Its popularity is increasing, attracting thousands of couples from neighboring counties and cities such as Lishui, Jinhua, and Wuyi. In fact, the main reason why Xiandi has become a wedding photography location is because of the location of Dinghu Peak. Let Dinghu Peak and Lianxi become the background of the wedding photos, and jointly testify to their love. It means that lovers are like the reflection of Dinghu Peak in the water, you have me, and I have you. There is a peak-viewing pavilion with four corners and a waterside pavilion on Xiandi, which not only embellishes the scenery, but also is a good place for photography. From here, Dinghu Peak on the shore stands tall and straight, and Dinghu Peak in the water is graceful and sways with the waves. When the afterglow of the setting sun casts a golden glow, the shore and the Dinghu Peak in the stream are even more beautiful and moving, like a jade palace in the sky. This picturesque scenery is the essence of Xiandu, and celebrities from all over the world have stopped here since ancient times. It was also the filming base for dozens of film and television dramas such as "Ashima", "The Twins", "The Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils", and "Emperor Wu of Han". Huiweng Pavilion: It is a half-side pavilion built artificially in a cave. The pavilion covers an area of 90 square meters and is about 6 meters high. It is a wooden structure, and the two corners of the pavilion fly out of the cave. The cave is called Huiweng Cave, and the back mountain is Huiweng Rock. The foot of the mountain is good and the stream is wide and deep. It is called Zhutan. It is said that Zhu Xi (Zi Huiweng), a great Neo-Confucianist in the Song Dynasty, once rested here. The scenic spots here are all named after Zhu Xi's surname and pseudonym. Huiweng Rock is tens of meters high and extends hundreds of meters from north to south. It has cliffs and green lakes, and ancient caves are secluded and interesting. Ancient trees cover the sky, making it another good place to explore the secluded and beautiful places in Xiandu. The back of Huiweng Rock is in a quiet environment with many intertwined trees, making it an ideal place for love. Nine Dragon Wall: There is a peculiar rock wall at the water's edge, which people call the Nine Dragon Wall. This is a belt-shaped layered joint geological structure. The entire joint belt is about 100 meters long, and its entirety is almost parallel to the surface of the Hao Creek. The lowest part is less than 1 meter away from the water surface. The caves in the joint belt are of different heights and depths, up to 4 meters high and 4 meters deep. Because the joint belt is located between cliffs, the tuff rock layers are distinct, undulating and curved, with bumps and depressions, like countless dragons lurking on the rocks, so it is called the Nine Dragon Wall, also known as the Dragon Cliff. Chaoran Pavilion: There is a four-cornered single-eaved pavilion with a pointed roof by the stream, called Chaoran Pavilion, which means to be detached from the world and wander in the clouds. It is a viewing pavilion for overlooking the sunrise on Ma'anshan. The pavilion is 2 meters long and 5 meters high, with a wooden structure, red pillars and green tiles. From here, you can see the sunrise of Ma'anshan in the east, Tianshi Cave in the north, and the majestic Dinghu Peak in the south. To appreciate the charm of Zhutan Mountain, you should sit down and feel it slowly, and experience its natural tranquility, freshness and simplicity.Jinyun · 23 km from Yongkang

Xiandu Temple

Xiandu Temple, also known as Zhaohou Temple, Zhaohou Temple, and Wushanghou Temple, is one of the ancient temples in Jinyun Xiandu. Zhao Bing is enshrined here. Zhao Bing (1008-? AD), a Han Dynasty man, was proficient in magic and advocated cleanliness and simplicity. He used water flowing eastward to worship gods, peeled mulberry bark for sacrifice, used clear water to make fine wine, and used a knife to cut anything to make cooked meat. Fill a basin with clear water, you can see fish and dragons. When Zhao Bing traveled around Jinhua and Jinyun, the local area suffered from war and plague. Zhao Bing healed the people and saved many people. In order to commemorate him, the people built a temple for him here. After the emperor of the Han Dynasty knew about it, he conferred Zhao Bing the title of general and Wushanghou. Wushanghou was because Jinyun Xiandu belonged to Wushang County at that time. Zhaoyin Cave and Shenyi Cave also enshrine stone statues of eight divine doctors from ancient times to the present, blessing people with peace, health and happiness. Qinglong Rock: There is a giant rock at the entrance of Zhaohou Temple, which is shaped like a dragon's mouth. People call it Qinglong Rock, and it faces Dadu Rock across the road. On the west side of the rock is Tiyun Cave, where the ancient long pavilion of Qin and Han Dynasty is located, and it is also the only way from Taizhou to Jinhua. On the east side of the rock are Shennong Cave and Zhaoyin Cave. Look, the dragon head, dragon eye, dragon nose, and dragon mouth are covered with mist, which is very realistic. The ancients believed in gods, and they would throw coins here to predict good omens. Throwing one in was good luck, throwing two in was wealth, and throwing three in was peace. Swan Hatching Eggs: Opposite Zhaoyin Cave, there is a valley with a stone dragon coiled around, and many huge stones are piled at the entrance of the valley. If you look into the valley from Zhaohou Boat, the upper part of the pile of stones looks like a swan; the lower part is smaller and shaped like bird eggs. People named it Swan Hatching Eggs based on its shape. If you enter the valley and stand under the stone, you will see that part of this pile of giant round egg-shaped stones has cracked, as if they were cut by swords, so people call it Xianpoyan or Poguashi. This place is also a cave with ventilation on three sides. It is warm in winter and cool in summer. Especially in the hot summer, the temperature difference between inside and outside is nearly 10 degrees, which is a wonderful place to escape the summer heat. Films and TV series such as "Two Patrolmen", "Moya Dai", "Lianxinba", "The Book and the Sword", and "Nezha" have all been filmed here.Jinyun · 23.8 km from Yongkang

West Lake

West Lake is undoubtedly the epitome of Hangzhou's beauty. The famous "Ten scenes of West Lake" surround its shores, where nature and culture complement each other, forming the core area of Hangzhou tourism. You don't need to visit every attraction - instead, spend half a day or a full day strolling along the lake. However you choose to enjoy it, the experience will surely lift your spirits. West Lake is the core attraction of Hangzhou, surrounded by clouds and mountains on three sides and the city on one side. The Su Causeway and Bai Causeway stretch across the lake, dividing it into several water areas. The lakeside scenery is highlighted by the "Ten Scenes of West Lake" from the Southern Song Dynasty, along with the later "New Ten Scenes" and "Three Additional Scenes," featuring over a hundred attractions along the shore and mountains. Pavilions, temples, pagodas, gardens, causeways, and islands complement the distant mountains and nearby waters, while legends like the Broken Bridge where Lady White Snake met Xu Xian add a layer of storytelling to the landscape. West Lake extends east from Songmuchang in Hangzhou and the north of Baolu Road turning to Shaoniangong Square, passing Baisha Road, Huancheng West Road, Hubin Road, and Nanshan Road to the south of Wansong Ridge, covering all attractions including Wu Mountain, Ziyang Mountain, and Yunju Mountain. To the south, it stretches from Gulou along the eastern foothills of Wu Mountain, Ziyang Mountain, and Yunju Mountain, passing Fengshanmen and Fenghuangshan Road, then following the West Lake water diversion channel to the north bank of the Qiantang River, turning to the Coral Sand Reservoir and ending north of Liufangling. To the west, it runs from Liufangling, Zhugan Mountain, Jiuqu Ridge, and Mingren Ridge to Meiren Peak, Beigaofeng, Lingfeng Mountain, and east of the ridge line of Laohe Mountain. To the north, it follows the foothills of Laohe Mountain (west wall of Zhejiang University), turns 30 m north of Qingzhiwu Road, connects to Yugu Road, Zhejiang University Road, and Shuguang Road, ending south of Songmuchang. West Lake has over 100 attractions, renowned for its "Ten scenes of West Lake", "New ten scenes of West Lake" and "Three reviews · Ten scenes of West Lake". West Lake overview You can explore West Lake on foot, by cruise, on electric bikes, via self-drive, or by riding. Among these, electric bikes are the most convenient and effortless option, with hop-on-hop-off sightseeing vehicles circling the entire lake. Riding along the lakeshore is romantic and leisurely, with many public bike rental spots available. For a boat tour, there are nearly 10 docks around the lake offering various vessels and routes. We highly recommend taking a cruise to Three Pools Mirroring the Moon at the lake center while enjoying the scenic views. Alternatively, you can hail a hand-rowed boat for a more flexible experience with a boatman guiding your tour. North line scenery The north shore of West Lake gathers quite a few attractions, usually starting from the remnant snow on broken bridge at the northeast corner and heading west all the way to Yuewang Temple. You can walk along Bai Causeway to Solitary Hill, visiting cultural attractions like Xiling Seal Engravers' Society, Zhejiang Provincial Museum, Chinese Seal Art Museum, and Zhongshan Park's Crane Pavilion. Enjoy authentic West Lake vinegar fish at Louwailou Restaurant, then cross Xiling Bridge to leave the island - Yuewang Temple and Breeze-ruffled lotus at Quyuan Garden are just a short distance away. If it's a summer day with strong sunlight, it is recommended to stroll along Beishan road, hiding under the dense shade of trees to admire the curve of Broken bridge and the swaying weeping willows on Bai causeway opposite. There are many entrances along the way leading to Precious stone hill, where you can hike for views, and descend to reach Yuewang temple. Yuewang square has many small shops for snacks, and the Impression West Lake show here in the evening is also worth watching. If you have ample time and energy, you can also head to Su causeway from here for a walk to enjoy the panoramic view of West Lake. Southeast coast (Lakeside-Nanshan Road) Another area with a concentration of attractions is the Hubin Road-Nanshan Road along the southeastern coast. Hubin Road is located at the junction between Hangzhou's urban area and the attraction, offering views of West Lake, a dock for West Lake cruises, and the iconic music fountain. The advantage of Hubin Road is its quick access from the attraction to the downtown business district, making it suitable for travelers with a tight itinerary to make a short stop. Head south from Hubin road and walk along Nanshan road, where you can visit attractions like Orioles singing in the willows, Long bridge, Leifeng pagoda, Evening bell at Nanping hill, and Viewing fish at flower harbor. The distance between adjacent attractions is not far, so you can walk or take a sightseeing bus or public transport, which are also convenient. You can arrange a day to visit a few of them according to your preference. Among them, Leifeng pagoda and Evening bell at Nanping hill can be visited in the evening. Listening to the bell at Jingci temple and overlooking the night view of West lake from Leifeng pagoda are both great experiences.China · Hangzhou

The old cableway has been decommissioned, so you'll have to hike up the mountain, which is quite steep at first! However, the mountain itself isn't very large, and it's manageable for most people with average physical abilities! The Danxia landform scenery is also very beautiful, making it a relatively relaxing travel destination!

Jinyun Xiandu truly lived up to its reputation. After waiting for an hour, I finally witnessed the iconic scene of the old man leading his ox on Zhutan Mountain. The entire scenic area is a harmonious blend of mountains and water, with breathtaking views at every turn, making for a very pleasant stroll. The rock-built study on the cliff was truly impressive. During my visit, I sampled authentic Jinyun sesame seed cakes—crispy on the outside and incredibly fragrant. Overall, a wonderful experience, definitely worth a visit!

The scenic area was very quiet after the long holiday, perfect for photography enthusiasts. I took many photos I love. The villagers and staff were very welcoming and polite. What impressed me most was the village restrooms—they were incredibly clean, cleaner than any I've seen in major tourist attractions. A truly worthwhile trip; highly recommended.

#Jinyun Xiandu Scenic Area Dinghu Peak rises abruptly from the ground like a pillar supporting the sky, shrouded in mist like a fairyland. Before Zhutan Mountain, an old farmer leads his ox across a stone bridge; every frame is a picturesque ink painting. Strolling through Niweng Cave and Xiao Chibi, the cliff carvings tell the story of a thousand years of cultural heritage. The Yellow Emperor's Temple is solemn and dignified, with the rising incense smoke evoking images of the Xuanyuan sacrificial ceremony. This place is imbued with spirit; every step reveals a new scene, washing away all worldly worries—truly a "fairyland"!

Place is my old time favourite. Any time of the year it is in my heart. Some ponds are not working, some have been drained, but constant improvements add a certain rustic charm. Recomment to visit in the middle of week with less crouds. Bloggers now have their own streaming den, or should i say tree house?

Bring your children to exercise, but you don't have to take the magic carpet elevator. It's a short while before you arrive. The children are breathing heavily all the way. When you get to the mountain, you can play jungle crossing, pig race, and roller coaster. Increase the interaction between father and son and leave them with a good memory.

Zhutan Mountain, located in the Jinyun Xiandu Scenic Area in Lishui, Zhejiang Province, is a stunning scenic spot that blends stunning natural beauty with rich cultural heritage. Famous for its panoramic views of Dinghu Peak, it has served as a filming location for popular television series such as "The Journey of Flower" and "Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils." The scenic area's Xiandi Causeway offers a perfect vantage point for viewing Dinghu Peak's reflection. Strolling along, you'll admire swaying willows and picturesque scenery. The stone slab bridge (Banyan Bridge) here is a photographer's paradise, especially at dawn and dusk, when mist shrouds the area, creating a hazy effect of light and shadow. On weekends, you can witness the iconic scene of "The Old Farmer Leading the Cow," a scene that feels like walking into a poem or painting. Besides its natural beauty, Zhutan Mountain is also steeped in rich history and culture. It was named after the Song Dynasty Neo-Confucianist Zhu Xi, who once lectured while boating here. Remains of this area include Huiweng Pavilion and the Nine Dragon Wall. The Nine Dragon Wall, a unique banded jointed geological structure resembling a coiled dragon, is worth a closer look. 📌 Useful Tips · The scenic area is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. · A recommended visit time is 1-2 hours. · If you want to take photos of the "Old Farmer Leading the Cow" performance, please note that this performance is usually only performed on weekends. · The stone bridge is narrow and slippery, so please be careful when walking.

I specifically chose October 4th, and indeed there weren't many tourists. I stayed at the best guesthouse in the scenic area, which was conveniently located. A light drizzle added a unique charm to the place; the mountains were silent, and the human world seemed far away.

My second visit to West Lake was great; the boat tour was excellent. The dock was easy to find, the staff were very friendly, provided clear explanations, and helped with any issues. There were also sightseeing buses, which were nice but a bit pricey. Taking the boat tour and then walking around was both perfectly fine.
