Lake Zurich

4.8/5
520 reviews
Lake Zurich is a glacial lake on the Swiss Plateau, formed by glacial erosion. It is shaped like a crescent moon and stretches nearly 30 km southeast from downtown Zurich. The lakeshore slopes gently, with vineyards and orchards spread out in layers on the gentle slopes. On clear days, standing by the lake and looking south, the outline of the Alps is clearly visible. The lakeside promenade is flat and easy to walk. Strolling, jogging, picnicking, and sunbathing are daily pastimes for locals. In summer, the lakeside swimming areas are popular, and jumping into the water for a few laps is a common way for residents in this area to cool off. There are year-round boat services, allowing you to travel from the pier at the city's lake outlet all the way to Rapperswil at the southeastern end, offering a different perspective of the gentle slopes and small towns on both banks. Swans and wild ducks are frequent visitors here, often swimming in groups to the shore and leisurely circling around visitors' feet.Stafa · 22.9 km from Zurich
Bahnhofstrasse

Bahnhofstrasse

445 reviews
Bahnhofstrasse is located on the west side of the Limmat, starting from Station Square in front of Zurich Main Station in the north and ending at Buerkliplatz on the shores of Lake Zurich in the south, with a total length of approx. 1.4 km. This street is actually quite young: it was only after Zurich demolished its old city walls and filled in the moat in the 1860s that this straight street was opened on the low-lying land formerly known as "Frog Ditch." Today, it is often compared to New York's Fifth Avenue and has long been ranked among the most expensive shopping streets in Europe, serving as a city landmark for Zurich. It also has a famous nickname—the "Wall Street of Switzerland." Zurich is an internationally renowned financial city, with banks and financial institutions clustered along the street; the headquarters of UBS Group (UBS) is located next to Paradeplatz along the way. Even more intriguing is the long-standing rumor that many banks store their gold reserves in underground vaults beneath the street. Switzerland has also long been one of the world's major hubs for gold trading, so it's no wonder some call it the "Golden Avenue." Thinking about the vaults that might be buried beneath your feet while strolling along is quite a fascinating experience.Zurich · 345m from downtown
Rhine Falls

Rhine Falls

6.5
4.7/5
154 reviews
Rhine Fallsis located on the upper Rhine River in northern Switzerland, straddling the border between the Canton of Schaffhausen and the Canton of Zurich, just a few km from the old town of Schaffhausen. It is one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe, where the riverbed, approx. 150 m wide with a drop of approx. 23 m, plunges down. During the high-water season, hundreds of cubic meters of water crash down every second, and you can hear the thunderous roar before you even get close. This waterfall was formed during the last glacial period, approx. 14,000–17,000 years ago, carved by the erosion of the riverbed narrowed by hard, erosion-resistant limestone. The massive rock standing in the center of the waterfall is a remnant of the ancient river cliff. An iconic experience is to take a small boat to the massive rock in the center of the waterfall, dock, and climb the stone steps to the platform on top, where you can feel the mist on your face and hear the deafening roar just inches from the water curtain. The views from both banks are unique: Laufen Castle on the Zurich side sits high on the cliff, making it a classic spot for a panoramic view of the waterfall; the viewing platform on the Schaffhausen side is close to the water, perfect for capturing the spray of the water curtain at eye level. You can take a boat round-trip between the two banks, or walk across the pedestrian path next to the upstream railway bridge to visit the other side, capturing the scenery from different angles.Neuhausen am Rheinfall · 34.9 km from Zurich
Zurich Old Town

Zurich Old Town

4.7/5
96 reviews
Zurich Old Town straddles both banks of the Limmat and serves as the city's historic core. Compared to the modern urban landscape of riverside banks and office buildings, it still retains the layout of a medieval town: winding cobblestone alleys, scattered old houses, guild halls, and street fountains. Standing on the riverbank, you can see the Old Town's three iconic churches at a glance—the twin-towered Grossmunster, St. Peter's Church, which features a clock face nearly 9m in diameter, and Fraumunster, famous for its Chagall stained-glass windows. Zurich Old Town is best explored on foot. Augustinergasse is lined with old houses featuring painted bay windows and vintage signs, making it one of the most recognizable alleys in the Old Town. For a panoramic view, head up to Lindenhof Hill; this former Roman castle site is now a vantage point for overlooking the Old Town's rooftops and the Limmat. Many old buildings have been converted into trendy restaurants, bars, and cafes, with bookstores and gift shops tucked away in the deep alleys. The Niederdorf area is a bustling shopping district by day, and after dark, its restaurants and bars light up, so it never feels repetitive even if you stroll from the afternoon well into the night.Zurich · 613m from downtown

Grossmunster

Grossmunsterstands on the banks of the Limmat, facing the Fraumünster on the opposite bank. The church is primarily in a typical Romanesque style, and its twin towers are now considered a symbol of Zurich; the composer Wagner once jokingly called them a pair of "pepper pots". Outside the south tower of the church stands a seated statue of Charlemagne holding a sword; it is a replica, with the original housed in the crypt. The crypt and the chancel area where the choir stalls are located are the oldest surviving parts of the church, dating back to the late 11th to early 12th century, with traces of the original frescoes still visible on the walls. In the early 16th century, the reformer Zwingli served as a priest here and preached his reformist ideas, making the church the birthplace of the Reformation in German-speaking Switzerland. The simple, white interior today is a legacy of this reformation. Inside the hall, you can also see stained glass windows designed by Swiss artist Augusto Giacometti, as well as bronze doors carved with images of Zwingli and Charlemagne. The cloister houses a Reformation museum, and climbing the south tower offers views over the Old Town, the Limmat, and the Lake Zurich area.Zurich · 400m from downtown

Lindenhof

Lindenhofis located in the Old Town of Zurich on the left bank of the Limmat. It is a small hill park rising more than 20m above the river, named for the linden trees planted on it, and feels like an oasis in the center of the Old Town. Its history is layered. In the Roman era, a customs post was established on the hilltop, followed by a fortress overlooking the riverbank, and the Carolingian royal palace was also built on the same site. After the palace was abandoned, it became a rare public green space within the city walls, where medieval guild banquets and citizen gatherings were often held. Today, the park retains a neat geometric layout, with stone chess tables set under the shade of old trees. Inside the park, an ancient fountain from the late 17th century features a statue of a woman wearing a helmet, commemorating the legend of Zurich women defending the city in 1292. Climbing to the hilltop platform, with the Limmat as the foreground, you can take in the Old Town on the opposite bank, the Grossmunster, the City Hall, and the buildings of the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich on the slopes. It is a classic vantage point for overlooking the Old Town and the river scenery. The narrow alleys leading to the hill are car-free and quiet. It is a great place to take a break after strolling along Bahnhofstrasse or visiting St. Peter's Church, and it is perfect for experiencing the leisurely daily life of the people of Zurich.Zurich · 502m from downtown

Augustine Lane is located in the old town of Zurich, next to Bahnhofstrasse. It is a very historic street in the area. There are many exquisite historical buildings on both sides of the stone road, all of which are hung with the Swiss flag, full of romantic nostalgia. In the Middle Ages, Augustine Lane used to be a gathering place for Zurich's craftsmen. Today, these colorful little houses have been transformed into creative craft shops, cafes, bookstores, etc. You can take a good stroll here if you have enough time.Zurich · 390m from downtown

Bahnhofstrasse is Zurich's most famous shopping street, luxurious and full of vitality! It is full of top brand stores, exquisite cafes and century-old shops, which is very stylish to visit. The street is clean and elegant, with trams running through it, retro and modern. Although the prices are high, the window viewing and street photography are worth it! It is recommended to experience the exquisite life in Switzerland, remember to bring your wallet~

This lesser-known attraction is worth a visit. The area isn't large, but it's incredibly popular. The view up close is quite breathtaking. Although I didn't get to climb to the national flag, being halfway up the mountain already gave me a real sense of its unstoppable, surging power. It's a bit chilly in autumn, so dress warmly and be sure to bring waterproof clothing.

The Old Town of Zurich is a preserved part of the original urban appearance of Zurich's old city. It is the living environment of the earliest Swiss people. It lacks commercial atmosphere and high-rise buildings, but retains the leisurely and affluent life of the most simple old European residents.

Lindenhof is a park on a small hill. Due to its high terrain, you can overlook the beautiful scenery of Zurich. It was raining on the day we went there, so the panoramic view was not so beautiful, but the small platform itself was very beautiful in autumn. There were golden trees all around, and a thin layer of orange leaves on the ground, which made the atmosphere full. It is said that this is the filming location of the Korean drama Crash Landing on You, and there are many Korean tourists.
