Donghwasa

Tonghwasa Temple is located at the foot of Palgongsan Mountain, 22 kilometers northeast of Daegu. It was built by the monk Jida in the 15th year of King Soji of Silla (493 years). It was called Yoga Temple at that time. It was rebuilt by the teacher, and it was renamed Tonghua Temple because the sycamore flowers in the temple were still blooming beautifully at the time of reconstruction. At present, there are dense woods planted at the entrance of the temple, and there are clear waterfalls in the temple. The current Daxiong Hall was rebuilt in 1727 and is divided into 6 nunneries including the Buddhist Nunnery. On the pavilion in front of Daxiong Hall, there is a plaque "Yingnan Jinying Yamen", which shows that Master Siming used Tonghua Temple as the command headquarters during the Imjin Japanese Rebellion. In addition, the 33-meter-high Unification Yakushi Nyorai Buddha is built in Donghwasa Temple, which symbolizes the desire of the Korean people to achieve reunification.
