Kandy Viewpoint

Kandy Viewpoint is located in the southwest corner of the hill city of Kandy, Sri Lanka, and is sometimes referred to by locals as "Arthur's Seat." The viewpoint is situated on high ground along Rajapihilla Mawatha. From here, the calm waters of Kandy Lake, the golden roof of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, the silhouette of the old royal palace, and the surrounding rolling hills are all clearly visible. On a clear day, the layout of the entire city of Kandy unfolds before your eyes, giving you an intuitive understanding of this hill city.

The viewpoint features a railed platform where you can enjoy the scenery with peace of mind. Next to the platform is an old banyan tree, and under the tree is a unique Buddha statue—the Buddha is seated on a cobra, which is quite interesting. Many people like to come here in the evening to watch the sunset slowly sink behind the distant mountains, with the clouds in the sky gradually turning warm colors. After nightfall, the city lights turn on one by one, creating another quiet and bright scene.
