The old town of Taipa in Macau is subtly painted with shades of yellow, green, and blue. The Rua do Cunha area best embodies this color scheme—yellow in the arcade facades and ginger-flower pink walls of the small houses; green in the shutters and the cool, mint-green Portuguese-style residences of the Taipa Houses Museum; and blue in the Rua da Praia Grande: two yellow and blue houses face each other across the street, while the entire Rua da Praia Grande is painted Tiffany blue, with the shadows of the trees slanting down, like a replica of Cinque Terre in Italy on the South China Sea coast. Walk a little deeper, and you'll find the beige walls of Our Lady of Carmel Church, the emerald green Portuguese buildings along the seaside road, and the caramel color of Lord Stow's egg tarts on Rua do Cunha—Taipa's "Portuguese relaxed feel" is complete—lacking the glitz and glamour of the Cotai Strip, only narrow alleys, banyan trees, cobblestone streets, and walls painted in a few colors, each turn a screensaver. 💡 When shooting in the market, it's recommended to sit on a bench under a tree to get a better view and avoid disturbing the neighbors who still live there.
