Stortorget and City Hall

Malmö, the third largest city in Sweden, is characteristic of the city architecture, the city government is a Dutch Renaissance style building, St. Peter's Basilica is a Gothic building, and there are many beautiful 16th century buildings in the city. The Grand Plaza is the oldest square in the city, Malmö Castle is the oldest castle in Scandinavia, and part of the castle is open to the public as a museum.

Malmö City Hall Square was built during Malmö's most prosperous period in the 1630s, surrounded by famous buildings including the town hall, the former residence of the first mayor, Cook, and a 400-year-old "lion pharmacy" in the corner of the square, with the statue of Karl X Gustaf riding in the middle of the square. Many buildings around the square have a history of hundreds of years. Although the small square is not large, every building here has a sense of history and every house has a story. From the pedestrian street to the small square, you can see a red half-wood structure house. It is Malmö's best preserved 16th century half-wood house. It is called Hedmanska Courtyard along with the yellow plaster house next to it, and in summer there are often small concerts in the courtyard. In the old courtyard, it is the center of modern design. There are also restaurants and cafes around Malmö City Hall Square, which is also a place for local people to gather, relax and entertain.

Malmö Grand Square, the oldest square in the city, was built in the 16th century, is a typical Hanseatic style brown-red building, the town hall on the east side of the square is a Dutch Renaissance-style building, and the center of the square is a riding statue of King Carl X of Sweden. It was he who overcame Denmark and turned Malmö into a Swedish city.

It was very convenient to get to Malmö from Copenhagen, a train, less than an hour away, and honestly, I had difficulty distinguishing between Sweden and Denmark, which were subtle differences, because I was both the cities and people of northern Europe. In Malmö Grand Plaza, a cup of coffee, or a beer, it seems that the flow of people, many years ago, is interesting.

This is Malmö’s central square, the most striking on the square is the town hall on the east side, a 500-year-old Dutch Renaissance building, majestic and beautiful. It is also a good place for leisure shopping, there are many delicious restaurants and cafes around, it is worth visiting here.
