Mangshi, the capital of Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, is the most southwestern border town in Yunnan, where five ethnic minorities and Han people have lived for generations. Mangshi was formerly known as 'Menghuan', which means 'City of Dawn' in Dai language. The landmark of Mangshi, 'Menghuan Golden Pagoda', is the first golden Buddha pagoda in China and the first hollow Buddha pagoda in Asia. Bodhi Temple, a Theravada Buddhist temple, is also a well-preserved Southern Buddhist temple.
