We were lucky enough to visit Yamagata prefecture when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. Tsuruoka Park is beautifully laid out with the cherry blossoms along that river and all around the park. ...
Nice landscaped park with some interesting temples
Tsuruoka has a lot to offer for such a small city and the park is one of those sights. Nice for an afternoon walk. Besides the landscaping a number of temples (Idea and an Inari Shrine) can be visited...
Tsurugaoka Park has been built in the park where the Sakai family of the Shonai domain had been staying for about 250 years. Therefore, there are moats, stone walls, and hundreds of years old old cedar in the park, which makes you feel the remnants of the castle. In the center is the Shonai Shrine, and the park was a pleasant place with abundant greenery. There are about 710 cherry trees in the park, which was selected as "100 Best Sakura Spots in Japan", and it is also a place where you can see wonderful cherry blossoms in spring.
