Guchengyan

Guchengyan is located on the east side of Wan'an Town, Xiuning County. It was built in the first year of Yong'an during the Three Kingdoms period. In ancient times, it was the seat of the county government. In the late Sui and early Tang dynasties, Wang Hua once claimed the throne here. The Attraction is not large, and there are far fewer tourists than Hongcun and Xidi. Many Hui-style buildings in the Attraction were moved from other places. Fortunately, they still maintain the proper Hui style. Some film and television dramas such as "Xiaohua", "The Sky of History", "Hui Merchants in the Qing Dynasty", and "Mother of Slaves" have been filmed here. Walking into the gate in the center of the city wall, there is only one main road in Guchengyan, which is bounded by the Yimen Gate. The first half of the road is to see the archway, and the Yizi Archway, Shuangjie Archway, Xiaozi Archway, and Zhongzi Archway are arranged in sequence. The second half of the road is to see the old house. Zhu Yuzhai, Jin Shunqingzhai, and Cheng's three houses are all classic Hui-style houses. The Hui-style three-carving brick carvings, wood carvings, and stone carvings on the buildings are very exquisite. The walls under the eaves are painted with elegant patterns, and beautiful carved beds are placed in the room. The Huang Clan Ancestral Hall, also located in the second half, has a magnificent ancestral hall, and the sixteen "backgrounds" lined up in a row are the highlight. The buildings worth seeing in Guchengyan are the West Garden and Wang Family Hall of Wang Houzhuang and Wang Kuanye, the "richest men in Xiuning" in the late Qing Dynasty, which are also located in the second half. The West Garden, also known as the Garden of the Golden Flower, was originally very large. There are now fish ponds from the Ming Dynasty, flower theaters from the Qing Dynasty, and side corridors from the early Republic of China. When large tourist groups arrive during holidays, there will be Huangmei Opera performances on the stage. Wang Family Hall is next to the West Garden and consists of a gate, front patio, main hall, back corridor and back patio. There are carvings of golden lions, cows and horses on the beams and columns of the house. On Shoushan at the end of Guchengyan stands the Wanshou Tower, also known as the Ancient City Tower, which was built in the early years of the Ming Dynasty Jiajing. It is a landmark building, but it cannot be climbed and can only be viewed from a distance. In addition, the hiding cave where Zhu Yuanzhang fled for his life may not be open to the public.
