Wangyu Ancient Town

Wangyu Ancient Town is located in the upper reaches of Zhougong River, 35 kilometers south of Ya'an City, adjacent to Wawushan Town, Hongya County. Because there is no post station on the Ancient Tea-Horse Road, it formed a market town. Although the site selection of Wangyu Ancient Town originated from the post road, it also reflects the traditional Chinese concept of Feng Shui, that is, elements such as "pillow mountains, surround water, and face screens". Wangyu Old Street Wangyu Old Street was built in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. The main building is located on a huge boulder abruptly on the mountainside. It is named after the boulder looks like a cat watching the fish swimming in the Zhougong River. The old street is a long and narrow one-shaped street. A bluestone road runs through the whole street. The pavement has been polished by the years to a faint glow. Walking on it is reminiscent of the merchants and caravans traveling on the ancient tea-horse road. The two sides of the street are all wood-structured blue-tiled houses and stilted buildings. The exquisite corrugations, corners, window lattices and carvings on the cornerstones of the pillars reveal the prosperity of the past. Due to terrain constraints, the overall shape of the old street is narrow and long. The buildings are connected by long streets, and most of them are divided into different functions before and after the lower shop or upper house or the patio. It has the characteristics of compound type. The facade of the house is mostly composed of door panels, chutes and door pivot holes. The floor of the house has a certain height difference, and some entrances do not have several steps of stone steps. The steps are connected to the holes with various flower patterns on the street to form a complete drainage system. Ya'an was called "Tian Leu" in ancient times. There is a lot of rain in the local area. Most of the houses use the four-headed style, also known as the "Four Water Returning Pool" style. The eaves are connected on four sides. Walking up the hill from the old street, it can be seen that some people's houses are built on the hillside. Compared with the residential buildings in the old street, the scale of the courtyards is larger, and there are a large number of exquisite wood and stone carvings. Wangyu is located deep in the mountains, is small in scale, and is not well known by people. Like other ancient villages, most of the young people here have gone out to work, leaving only some old people and children. They live a leisurely life and are free from competition in the world.
