🅿️ Parking guide | Key points for self-driving in Banff
Banff National Park is an open park with no separate gate; the highway runs through it.
You can drive into the park and park in official lots at various attractions. Moraine Lake is the only exception in peak season
1️⃣ Banff Town
· Paid public parking in the center. Most hotel guests get free parking
· Street parking on the main street is limited and time-restricted; not recommended for long stays
· Parking is tight in peak season; arrive early
2️⃣ Lake Louise
· Lake Louise parking lot: Right by the lake, free, limited spots
✅ Arrive before 8 AM in peak season (July–Sept) to get a spot. After 8 AM, it's usually full, and traffic control will prevent private cars from entering. You must take the shuttle
3️⃣ Moraine Lake
⚠️ Private cars are prohibited from driving directly to Moraine Lake (deep in the park) during peak season (June–Sept)
👉 You must park at the Moraine Lake shuttle station (outside the park) and transfer to the park's reserved shuttle bus
👉 Off-peak (May, Oct) allows driving directly to the parking lot
4️⃣ Vermilion Lakes
Multiple small free parking lots along the lake,
· imited spots, arrive early for sunrise
5️⃣ Icefields Parkway viewpoints
Official parking areas are provided. Only park in designated areas. Do not park on the side of the road; you will get a heavy fine💸

2. Don't park in no-parking zones; fines are high
3. Must book the Moraine Lake shuttle online in advance during peak season; if booked out, you cannot enter
