True to its name, Leshan is a "city of mountains and rivers". The landscape here is magnificent, with many historic sites, and it is one of Sichuan's great tourist destinations. Mount Emei, in the area of Leshan, is one of the four great Buddhist mountains in China. Deep in the mountains, there are many temples, suffusing the area with a serene Buddhist atmosphere. From here you can also gaze out at the sunrise and the sea of clouds. The Giant Buddha is also a scenic spot you absolutely must visit. Designed as a statue of a seated Maitreya Buddha, it is a fine work of cliff-carving from the Tang Dynasty. Presently, Xiba tofu is available in a wide array of products, offering an extensive taste that can be spicy, rich or subtly seasoned, all characterized by a delicate, silky texture.

* Touching the walls inside the Leshan Giant Buddha area is a significant taboo because the structure is part of a delicate Danxia landform and could be further damaged by such actions.

* Respect the statue's features. Don't worship or take photos of weathered Buddha statues that lack heads, a waistband, draped clothing, and a golden body.

Top pick: Mount Emei Golden Summit sea of clouds and Ten-Direction Samantabhadra statue in Sichuan — traveler post in Leshan

Top pick: Mount Emei Golden Summit sea of clouds and Ten-Direction Samantabhadra statue in Sichuan

⛰️ [Core scenery] Mount Emei is 1 of China's 4 sacred Buddhist mountains, with its essence concentrated at the 3,079-meter-high Golden Summit. The summit features the golden Ten-Direction Samantabhadra statue, while the Golden and Silver Halls shimmer in the sunlight. Looking out from the observation deck, you'll see a sea of clouds rolling beneath your feet, with mountains appearing and disappearing in the mist. If you're lucky, you might witness the 4 wonders: sunrise, sea of clouds, Buddha's halo, and holy lights, earning it the name fairyland above the clouds. Located on the western edge of the Sichuan Basin, Mount Emei offers a rich blend of nature and culture, from the temple complexes at the foot of the mountain to Qingyin Pavilion and Wannian Temple halfway up, and finally the Golden Summit at the top, all along a path filled with ancient trees, streams, and temples. 📷 [Shoot from 3 distances] For close-ups, capture the relief details and gilded patterns on the statue's base, or the exquisite curves of the Golden Hall's eaves against the backlight. For mid-range shots, frame the statue, Golden Hall, and the rolling sea of clouds together. For long-range shots, capture the entire Golden Summit floating above the sea of clouds, with the surrounding mountains appearing like islands. The sea of clouds is thickest and the light is clearest in the early morning or after rain when the sky clears, making these the best times for photography. If you encounter a Buddha's halo, remember to stand at a high vantage point and look at the sea of clouds against the light. 🎒 [Travel light and take it slow] The Golden Summit is at a high altitude with low temperatures, so bring a jacket even in summer. Pay attention to sun protection and altitude sickness prevention; move slowly and stay hydrated. Please refer to official park announcements for information on cable cars, sightseeing buses, and visitor capacity reservations. It is recommended to book online in advance during peak season. The mountain's macaques are active; do not feed or tease them, and keep your food secure. Allow enough time for your ascent and descent, and return to a safe area before dark. If you have enough time, consider a 2-day trip: stay halfway up the mountain on the first day, and head to the Golden Summit the next morning to watch the sunrise.

Chengdu Staycation | Frame the South City night view with floor-to-ceiling windows

Stay with a view of the Twin Towers This star-rated hotel in the Financial City area of South Gate is perfect for both city staycations and business trips. The location is super convenient: direct access via Metro Line 30 at Financial City North Station. It's about 20 minutes from the East Railway Station, and getting to Taikoo Li or Chunxi Road is easy, making it ideal for business trips or a relaxing weekend. I stayed in a Deluxe King Room (starting at 39 sqm). The panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows offer expansive views, and the city lights at night create a great urban vibe. It comes fully equipped with a 42-inch TV, high-speed WiFi, a minibar, and premium bathroom amenities. The airy space makes for a very relaxing stay. A relaxed weekend trip to Mount Emei, Sichuan — traveler post in Leshan

A relaxed weekend trip to Mount Emei, Sichuan

🏞️ [Weekend slow travel tips] For a relaxed weekend trip to Mount Emei, try this easy route: Arrive in the afternoon on the first day and stay near Qingyin Pavilion halfway up the mountain. Take a slow walk along the valley, listening to the water and admiring the ancient trees. In the evening, find a quiet stone bridge to rest. The next morning, take the sightseeing bus and cable car to the Golden Summit to catch the sea of clouds and the Samantabhadra statue around sunrise. The morning light is best. After visiting the Golden Summit, take the cable car back down. This pace is comfortable, avoids night travel, and lets you experience the mountains, water, clouds, and temples of Mount Emei. 🚶 [Who is this for?] Families with seniors or children can use the cable car and sightseeing bus more often to reduce walking. Photography enthusiasts should head to the Golden Summit early in the morning, as that is when you will find the sea of clouds and sunrise. Those who prefer peace and quiet can spend half a day walking slowly between Qingyin Pavilion and Wannian Temple, where it is less crowded and the scenery by the stream is serene. Mount Emei's macaques are famous. Keep your distance when you encounter them, do not feed or tease them, and keep your food inside your bag. The mountain paths can be slippery, so watch your step on rainy days and be sure to wear non-slip shoes. 💡 [Practical tips] Check official channels for booking and cable car information before you leave. During peak season, the Golden Summit has visitor limits, so book in advance. Temperatures are low at the summit, so bring a jacket and sun protection. Bring a moderate amount of water and snacks, as supplies on the mountain are expensive. If you plan to watch the sunrise, check the weather the night before. The chance of seeing it is low on rainy or cloudy days, so you might want to reschedule. Please respect the tranquility of the temples by not being loud and not littering. Refer to the latest announcements on the day for specific arrangements.

Relaxing After Climbing Mount Emei — traveler post in Leshan

Relaxing After Climbing Mount Emei

After descending Mount Emei, I entrusted my legs to the rooftop. Coming down from the Golden Summit, my legs felt like they belonged to someone else. Most people follow this routine after climbing Mount Emei: take a bus down from Leidongping → visit Baoguo Temple → take a taxi back to Chengdu → arrive home around 10 PM → limp to work the next day. This time, I tried a different approach: after leaving the visitor center, I dragged my legs for three minutes to a hotel, went upstairs, and soaked in a hot spring. Yes, just a three-minute walk. The rooftop features an open-air hot spring pool with water at around 40°C. Beneath your feet is the night view of Mount Emei, and above your head, a sky full of stars. The moment you sink into the water, you can feel the soreness and tightness in your calves gradually dissipating. After soaking for 20 minutes, I felt rejuvenated. Then I went downstairs to make a lacquer fan. You dip the fan into a basin of water with a few drops of lacquer, lift it out, and the water creates unique patterns for you. No two fans will ever look the same. The next day, there was no need to rush for a bus. I woke up naturally, had breakfast, and strolled leisurely. Mount Emei is a place you can climb and leave right after, but your legs will remember it for a long time. Since you're already here, why not let them rest for a night? Located right next to the Mount Emei Visitor Center, just a short walk away. 🛁 Rooftop Starry Sky Hot Spring · Lacquer Fan Dipping Experience

From Yuexi Valley, the healing power of surrounding waterfalls and hot springs. — traveler post in Leshan

From Yuexi Valley, the healing power of surrounding waterfalls and hot springs.

A two-hour drive from Chengdu on a Friday afternoon brings you to Yuexi Valley, hidden deep within a canyon. Push open the door to find mountains, forests, and cascading waterfalls. The constant sound of babbling brooks instantly eases all the tension brought from the city. The entire homestay is quiet and understated, with white walls, wooden structures, and perfectly placed greenery. There is no excessive decoration, and every view feels naturally atmospheric. The rooms are warm and gentle, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking layered forests, streams, and waterfalls, making you feel like you're living right inside the scenery. My favorite part is the hot spring here. In the natural mountain spring water, right next to the waterfall and stream, the steam rises, mixed with the moist scent of grass and trees. Soaking with the kids, surrounded by mist and the lush greenery of the forest, it's so comfortable you won't want to get up. During the day, take a walk along the stream, watch the waterfall cascade through the woods, sit on the terrace to drink tea, and quietly listen to the flowing water. In the evening, soak in the warm pool and drift off to sleep to the sound of the stream. It's truly perfect for a short family getaway to relax in nature and quietly recharge. Escape the hustle and bustle without going far; the valley has its own gentle charm.

A healing mountain retreat hidden next to Qingyin Pavilion on Mount Emei—I finally understand what a secluded getaway means.

If you want to avoid the crowds at Mount Emei, this is the perfect choice. The hotel is tucked away in the dense mountain forest. Open the window and be greeted by lush greenery; the large floor-to-ceiling windows frame the mountain scenery right inside your room. The rooms feature a warm wabi-sabi style with low-saturation beige and coffee tones, linen bedding, and soft wall lighting. Without excessive decoration, every detail invites you to slow down and find peace. My favorite spot is the outdoor mirror-like water platform, surrounded by bamboo forests. Wooden tables and chairs sit quietly on the water. As you sit, drink tea, and chat, the wind rustles through the bamboo leaves, and time seems to slow down. Beyond a comfortable stay, the hotel offers a singing bowl healing experience. As you sit in silence, the sound of the bowls slowly fills the air, seemingly smoothing away the fatigue accumulated over the days. There is no need to rush to the Golden Summit. Here, you can sleep in until you wake up naturally, brew tea and read in the living room, take a walk in the forest, or simply take some time for yourself to embrace the power of relaxation. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, a short stay at Lanyu is the perfect way to recharge. Qingyin Pavilion

Leshan One-Day Trip: See the Giant Buddha's Scenery and "Lounge" While Eating in an Ancient Town — traveler post in Leshan

Leshan One-Day Trip: See the Giant Buddha's Scenery and "Lounge" While Eating in an Ancient Town

Start your Leshan Giant Buddha tour at the "Winter Swimming Square." Beyond the stunning scenery, you'll see local seniors enjoying a swim. The best part is that you can take a ferry from the nearby Hengdu Ferry Terminal (Jiazhou Ferry Terminal) to the Baxiandong Ferry Terminal, located right next to the entrance of the Giant Buddha scenic area, giving you two different viewing experiences in one trip. If you want to walk from the Buddha's head down to his feet, don't head to Lingyun Temple (Giant Buddha Temple) immediately upon entering the scenic area, as the lines are usually very long. Visit Lingyun Temple and Lingbao Pagoda after you've finished at the Buddha's feet. From there, you can walk to the Stele Forest, Su Garden, and then on to Pilu Hall, which is more photogenic than Lingyun Temple. Next, follow the signs for "Mahao Cliff Tombs." You will pass the "Oriental Buddha Capital," which requires a separate admission fee. Past the Oriental Buddha Capital are the Mahao Cliff Tombs. After exiting the gate, you can cross a very photogenic covered bridge to reach Wuyou Temple. Be aware that the path to Wuyou Temple involves an incline, so be cautious if you have limited stamina. After visiting Wuyou Temple (or if you prefer to skip the climb), you can take a taxi directly to Suji Ancient Town. While the town doesn't have many historical sites or grand views, it's the perfect place to experience a "laid-back" vibe. The Emei River divides the town, and both banks are lined with teahouses where most visitors sit to drink tea, play cards, and chat. Prices in the town are very reasonable (much cheaper than in the city center). Buddha's hand (citron) seems to be a local specialty; besides the fresh fruit, you can also find citron tea and citron wine, both of which are unique and delicious. You'll find all the classic Leshan snacks here, such as lianggao (chilled rice jelly), liangfen (mung bean jelly), shaomai, and sweet skin duck, filling the town with a leisurely atmosphere. In the evening, there are performances like "da tie hua" (molten iron fireworks), a staple in modern ancient towns. Once you've had your fill of relaxing, you can take a taxi back to the city center and cap off your day with a late-night snack.

When visiting Leshan, comfort is key — traveler post in Leshan

When visiting Leshan, comfort is key

🍂When visiting Leshan, beyond the attractions and the street food, staying in comfort is just as important. I stayed at the Huatai Wyndham this time—a Wyndham blue-label five-star hotel with guaranteed quality. 🍂Staying here truly lets you slow down the pace of your trip. The overall environment is open, comfortable, quiet, and peaceful, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. The room is spacious and airy, and the bedding is soft and comfortable. Returning to the room after a day of exploring, I could shed all my fatigue and sleep soundly. 🍂The hotel offers a wide variety of dining options that are delicious, so when you don't feel like going out to hunt for food, you can have a great meal right at the hotel. There are plenty of places to relax in the public areas; it's perfect for a leisurely stroll, enjoying the breeze, or taking some photogenic pictures. 🍂The staff provided attentive and thoughtful service and were very responsive, making for a very pleasant stay. 🍂The location is convenient for getting around. Whether you want to visit the Leshan Giant Buddha, Suji Ancient Town, or explore the food scene in Leshan's Old Town, everything is easily accessible. When you're tired, you can just head back to the hotel to unwind. That feeling of being on vacation without having to rush your itinerary is truly therapeutic 😋

The giant Buddha is beautiful and unique. The trip is smooth, it's easy to go to the place. I really love how amazing the human can create anything like this in the past years without technology.

Oriental Buddha Capital

Really interesting place and definitely worth visiting. I ended up here by accident, and because of the new year, I couldn't enter the Leshan Buddha site as you had to book in advance. I don't regret anything as this site was super interesting and gives you an insight into how it was all created.

Baoguo Temple

Baoguo Temple - where it all begins and endsYou know, there's a special magic to traveling returning to where you started and realizing you're a completely different person. That Mount Emei, which seemed like a pretty picture on the first day, has now become a part of you. That your knees remember every stone, and your lungs remember every breath of air at an altitude of three thousand meters. Baoguo Temple awaited us below. And it was the perfect end point.Baoguo, also known as the "Temple of Gratitude to the Motherland," stands at the very beginning of the trail, at the foot of the mountain. On the first day, we were in such a hurry to get going that we left it for last, like a delicious dessert saved for last. And we did the right thing. The temple is about 450 years old. It was founded during the Ming Dynasty, in the 16th century, and since then it has faithfully fulfilled its purpose: meeting pilgrims, seeing them off to the top, and welcoming them back when they descend, tired and happy. Can you imagine how many stories it has witnessed? How many knees, like mine, have trembled before its gates? In the Hall of the Seven Buddhas, I encountered the purple bronze Huayan Pagoda. The same one, with 14 stories and 4,700 small Buddhas on its body. But the temple's crowning glory is, without a doubt, the bell. A huge bronze bell, weighing over 10 tons. Locals call it the "Bashu Bell King" (named after the ancient kingdom of Sichuan). Transportation: Take bus #5 in Emeishan; it goes directly to the temple. The price is only 1.5 yuan. It's almost ridiculous: 1.5 yuan for a ticket to a place that will nourish your memories for years. Buses run every 10 minutes, so you won't have to wait even during rush hour. You can, of course, take Didi—it's about 20 yuan and takes 25 minutes. But if you're not as exhausted as we were from descending the mountain, the bus is a more authentic option. You'll get locals to join you, you'll enjoy the scenery outside the window.

Wannian Temple

A light drizzle shrouded Mount Emei, with white mist drifting through the mountains, creating a scene of ethereal beauty. Ancient trees and babbling brooks added to the serene tranquility amidst the rain. Winding stone steps disappeared into the sea of clouds, and the distant sound of temple bells echoed softly in the mist. Though the grandeur of a clear sky was absent, the misty, Zen-like atmosphere offered a unique and serene charm to Mount Emei.

Suji Ancient Town

It's so comfortable to visit Suji on a cloudy day—no sun scorching sun. First, I found a tea stall by the river, sat down, enjoyed a cup of tea, and felt the breeze. I felt like I was slowing down. Then I visited the Qiaojiao Beef Museum to learn about the origins of this dish.
