We had a destination wedding there and although the wedding went well what really bothered us was the experience our 130 guest had. It was embarrassing to say the least. We were woken up by hammering on our ceiling at 7am, the lights went out for some of our guest as well as the AC. The water went out the day many guest were suppose to check out and multiple people made reservations for restaurants and were not even allowed in. This has been the worst stay I’ve ever been too.

This was our first time in Dominicana and we chose this hotel because our tour operator said it was new and we actually liked the pics (they are real by the way, not like in the majority of the hotels where they post only the best to attract guests). First thing that impressed us was that all staff was wearing masks at all times everywhere: inside and outside! No matter if they were showing sport exercises, cleaning or dancing in the lobby in the evening, they were always in masks! Then sanitizers everywhere . Temperature control at the entrance to the hotel and to all restaurants. The staff also makes sure you are wearing a mask and gloves when picking food. Everyone was polite helping and smiling all the time. I will name only some people here just because I didn't take photos of all names, so sorry if I didn't name you. All receptionists were ready to help and solve any problem you have. Bieavenido (thanks for late night talk, now I know when is the Independence day in Dominicana!😊). All our requests were satisfied within 5-15minutes (not Dominican minutes👆🤣). Guys at the restaurant all who were welcoming, thank you for giving us masks and gloves when we were too overwhelmed with holiday activities and forgot to get them🙈. Thank you for always wishing us good morning, nice day and smiling! Guys who take orders inside the restaurants and my Spanish teachers😅 Ramon, Antonio, Wilsoooooon Rincon, muchos gracias! They always ask you how you are, remember your orders and bring them before you think about it. Mariia Soriano and Andy from lobby bar- the smiliest girl and boy ever! Thank you for your Russian and Ukrainian, keep learning, next time I come I will check up on your progress! 🤣 Animation team- you are beyond human abilities!!! Fly yoga, yoga on surf boards, volleyball, water polo(I think it was water polo😅), water bikes in the swimming pool, sexy dancing, jumping on little trampolines..Ruben & Jason, my sister Debora(best breeds from you!❤)and my evening salsa teacher Coca -Cola(don't lose uno in bachata anymore😉). Love you guys! 🥰 I will always remember all of you, how you invited to take part in the activities, how you were showing everything step by step, your patience, your unique personalities. The best chef on this planet Wander Montilla with amazingly beautifully looking and heavenly tasting dishes. 😋 Thank you for your unforgettable dinner at the stake house restaurant! Also, the cooking show in Asian restaurant is worth seeing! The food is amazing and the products are high quality. We are more than happy with our rest!

The resort itself was beautiful but there were pros and cons. More cons than I wanted. Pool closed at 6 pm so no night swimming which left little to do in the evenings. Drinks were weak, drank all day long with no effect. Food was the worst. The buffet was terrible and was really our only option since the snack bar ran out of burgers, basically lived on chips and salsa the entire trip. The restaurants which you needed to make reservations for was a joke. The reservation app didn’t work so you had to wake am up at 6 am to stand in line until 8 am in hopes of getting a reservation. The service was not pleasant. Workers badly made eye contact with you and you always felt like you were bothering them when requesting a beverage or asking a question. The resort has potential if they stopped it up on service, food, drinks and entertainment.

I recently had the pleasure of spending time at Whala! Bavaro and couldn’t have been more thrilled with my experience. I was impressed with the friendly and welcoming staff who made our stay enjoyable. The hotel itself was clean and well - maintained and my room was spacious and comfortable. The bed was soft and the air conditioning worked perfectly, which was a relief after a day in the sun. The staff were always attentive and eager to assist with any questions or requests. They made me feel like a valued guest and helped make my stay memorable. In conclusion, my stay at Whala! Bavaro was nothing short of fantastic. Sun everyday, a lovely pool and holiday oasis to relax and unwind in. A wonderful vacation.

Check-In Experience: Upon arriving at the hotel, we were initially impressed. The scenic drive through the lush grounds set a positive tone, especially after our long 8-hour flight from the UK. We were greeted with a refreshing drink, which was a nice touch, but unfortunately, that’s where the frustrations began. The check-in process was slow and disorganized. It appeared that not all guests in line had pre-booked, which significantly delayed things, as locals seemed to use this hotel for last-minute stays, paying upon arrival. The use of tablets for form completion added to the delay, especially for older or less tech-savvy guests. Some people had been waiting for over an hour; our own check-in took 45 minutes. Given the heat, which was unavoidable, this made the situation even more uncomfortable—definitely not the ideal start to a holiday. Once we finally checked in, we were whisked away by golf cart to our room in Block 14. Still feeling frustrated from the check-in experience, I didn’t tip the bellboy, though I regretted it afterward, as he was not at fault. The issue lay entirely with reception. The Room: We opted for a Privilege Room, which cost an additional £40 each, and honestly, it was worth it. The room was spacious, well-designed for two people, and featured double sinks, a large double shower, and a super king bed. The bed, while firm, provided excellent sleep quality. The room’s temperature hovered around 24°C, but the ceiling fan helped keep us comfortable throughout the stay. Dining: The hotel offers a good variety of dining options. A la carte restaurants can be easily booked using a QR code, which also provides access to information about all the resort’s services. The food quality was generally good, though, as with most all-inclusive resorts, the meals did become a bit repetitive after a while. The main buffet restaurant was hit-or-miss in terms of service. Ordering drinks was often frustrating as they rarely arrived unless you followed up. It’s surprising that the resort doesn’t offer a self-serve station for soft drinks, water, and coffee during busy periods. This simple change could free up staff to focus on alcohol orders and other tasks, improving the overall dining experience. It was clear the waitstaff were stretched thin, as they were not only taking drink orders but also clearing tables and resetting them, which explained the occasional service lapses. Beach and Pool: The beach was lovely, with warm, inviting waters. The Privilege section was quieter, and finding a lounger was never an issue. The Pure Bar, exclusive to Privilege guests, was a great perk, and the staff there were wonderful—helpful and attentive. Tipping goes a long way here, and being generous ensures you’ll be served right at your lounger. The only downside is that the Pure Bar doesn’t offer snacks, which would have been a nice bonus. We also enjoyed the main pool, particularly the jacuzzi section, which was perfect for relaxing at the end
Ducassi Rooftop Pool Suites Beach Club and Spa

We had an okay trip to DR. The “hotel” is more like apartments, and people do seem to live here actually also. The rooftop pool is so awesome, and literally the best part of the place. The room is clean, but we killed probably 4-5 cockroaches in the room. Stove was all rusty. When arriving, the door didn’t lock & we were 2 women in their early 20s who are both > 130lbs. When requesting a new room, they “fixed” the door and refused to give us a new room. Scary location - we didn’t feel safe walking around at night here as women. Also, were scammed by a very nearby restaurant called “Bohio Punta Cana”. Free breakfast was awesome. No conditioner, only shampoo and “gel”? No hand soap. The shower seems to be salt water. I would honestly recommend staying on a resort if you come to DR, otherwise you might never want to come back.

So far everything is okay, nice pool area, gym also OK. TV and WiFi disastrous. TV Problematic with the internet, very annoying because the internet was way too slow, one night even a total failure. Watch out for extras. For example late check out until 3pm costs 25 US$ plus 18% tax plus 10% service charge, madness???? And, beware of the misleading booking. Because Garden View rooms are actually on the side of the street - so no garden. Only pool side rooms have garden etc. Restaurant prices very very high due to additional taxes and fees.

Ocean Blue & Sand Beach Resort - All Inclusive

Ocean Blue is a medium size resort. Not small. Not huge like Iberostar. However it has lots of fine dining (5) onsite just like the huge ones. Their beach is perfect with lots of free cabana like shaded seating. Only surprise was our scuba shop was onsite but actual dive boat was 2 resorts down the beach at Iberostar. A 10 minute walk, no problem. This side of island a bit choppy for diving. Smoother on South side. Resort super clean, safe and friendly staff. More young families and older couples. No Spring Break teens! Highly recommend this resort for families.
