My recent stay at the Grand Cityhall Hotel was truly exceptional and exceeded my expectations. From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I was immediately greeted by a warm, welcoming, and elegant atmosphere. This was evident in every corner of the hotel, from the exquisite interior design, a blend of classic and modern touches, to the thoughtful details within the rooms.
However, what truly made this experience unforgettable was the quality of service. The team at Grand Cityhall exemplified 5-Star hospitality standards. Every staff member I encountered was friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful. The check-in process was seamless, and I felt truly valued as a guest.
We stayed here just for one night before catching the train the next day. The room itself was nice, clean, and the bed was comfortable, which was perfect for a short stay.
However, all the rooms open directly onto the main lobby, so it gets very noisy early in the morning. If you’re a light sleeper, this can definitely be disturbing. There’s also a very large dehumidifier in the corridor that makes a constant, unpleasant noise.
It’s a decent place with comfy beds and cooling air conditioning. But the problem is that the blower wasn’t mounted properly and is shaking like a sugar cane juice machine. Other than that no issue with the room. There is a welcome drink, to claim it you should go to a lounge on the second floor. When you get there they present you a menu and ask you to select a drink, only after you order the drink off their menu do they actually bring the welcome drink telling you that the drink you ordered is also on its way. I honestly believe it’s a gimmick or a scam. Very disappointed.
The hotel is at strategic location and the room is very spacious with comfortable bed. Breakfast also served varieties of Indonesian dishes.
Our only complaint is we booked non smoking room but we are told it’s full and we have to stay at smoking room with strong tobacco smell.
Hotel staff tried to spray room freshener but the strong smell still lingers.
Overall the hotel is a good stay if you just want comfortable and safe place to sleep after a long day, but don’t expect luxurious facilities or services.
This was my 6th nights stay with separate subsequent bookings due to unknown situation of our mum's conditions who was in nearby hospital. Everything of this hotel was good and convenient, especially the staffs. Not using the other facilities in the hotel at all apart from sleeping and breakfast.
We had a pleasant stay overall. The room was very clean, though a bit small for the price. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast had a good variety, and the rooftop café was a nice place to relax, although the food and drinks were a bit overpriced. The resort layout feels a bit compact since it’s built on terraced land. One thing we missed was the cozy, local village vibe that Tuk Tuk is known for—the atmosphere here felt a bit more generic. Still, considering the limited similar-level options in Tuk Tuk, this resort is a decent choice and I’d consider staying here again.
I recently stayed at the Samosir Cottage on Samosir Island from November 29 to December 1, 2024.
The room was spacious, a significant plus. However, the toilet area required attention, with ants present, as mentioned in previous reviews. While this was acceptable for me, it's an area for improvement.
What truly impressed me was the exceptional service from the receptionist. They clearly explained options and kindly upgraded us to a bigger room. Their helpfulness and professionalism made a significant difference in our stay.
We booked two deluxe rooms, but the first room had a smoke smell, prompting us to request a change or upgrade.
Overall, while there's room for improvement in bathroom maintenance and mattress covers, the Samosir Cottage's spacious rooms and excellent service make it a solid choice for those visiting Samosir Island.

The service from the staff was very decent. But the room was severely lacking. The bed was sunken in …. There was an odor in the hallway. The air conditioning made a lot of noise. Non smoking rooms are indeed available but many guests flout the rules and if you’re unlucky like I was assigned a room next to a very heavy smoker the smoke from his room was entering mine through the gaps in the partition door.
The hotel staff is nice and polite. Check in was fast. Breakfast is normal. The location is near to shopping centre. By grabs, it takes abt 1 hour frm airport.
However, the room need to be renovated as quite old. Not the usual jw mariott standard.
It is such a paradise on this island. It is a quiet place, beautiful for couples, families, kids or to hang out with friends. The place is spacious, with direct access to the lake. Almost all bungalows are facing the beautiful lake. Perfect place to mediate, read or chill. They also have catamarans, swimming pool for kids, a billiard table, scooters to rent and a restaurant with a beautiful terrasse. The staff is so friendly and warm. I totally recommend this place. I have been going there for years, and it is the absolute best place on this island.

BBenǰourneyHotel is ok, but location quite far, only 1 indomaret is within walking distance. And big road in front and walking in medan felt not safe with their way of driving.

SShi HuiClose to the airport and provide free transfer at stipulated timing. Will need to WhatsApp the hotel to arrange prior to arrival. Pool is small and may have leaves and bugs. Staff do try to scoop out the debris as much as possible. Friendly staff generally. Will come by again if I need to stay near the airport.
