I chose this hotel for my trip to Takayama. It used to be the Wing Hotel Hida Takayama, but now it's called Koko. **Cleanliness:** The hotel has high-legged beds, and there was dust underneath, which personally bothered me. **Facilities:** The hotel parking requires advance reservation and has two areas: one directly under the hotel and another 500m away at a different establishment. The price is 500 yen per night. There aren't enough spaces at the hotel, so if you reserve late, you have to walk a long way to get your car, which is quite inconvenient. Additionally, the washing machines and dryers are located inside the communal hot spring bathhouse, and on the men's side, there's only one washer and one dryer, which is really too few. You often have to wait in line. **Environment:** The location is quite peaceful, about 1km from Takayama Station. **Service:** Overall good, but not outstanding.

This hotel is quite famous and well-designed, and it's well-maintained. However, the overall experience felt a bit stingy. The toiletries provided were very minimal, just barely enough. The breakfast selection was the most limited I've encountered in all my years traveling to Japan; there was hardly anything appealing to eat. Personally, I feel it's a bit tourist-unfriendly, and I probably won't choose this hotel again.

Onyado Yuinsho was located about 27 mins walk up the hill from shirakawa go bus terminal. It is possible to walk there as it’s a quiet path along the road pavement and a lot of scenery to see. But it’s not advisable unless you miss the 1st shuttle bus to hotel at 3pm. Reason is due to the bears signboards located along the road indicating possible bear attacks. The shuttle bus service is good at scheduled timing available at their website. Service, food and facilities are top notch. I love their attention to details. I will highly recommended you include breakfast and dinner in hotel as the eatery are all about 20 mins walk away and lighting outside hotel is poor at night. The onsen is a must try with different types of cold, hot water, fountain, sit down, indoor and outdoor. The whole hotel is carpeted so schools are not allowed. Overall I love the unique experience and their attention to details.

This is likely the grandest hotel with the best views along the Nagara River, a true five-star property. The rooms are quite spacious; river-facing rooms offer views of Gifu Castle, while those on the other side overlook the stadium. It was undoubtedly the best value-for-money hotel I stayed at during this trip to Japan.

Highly recommend! The entire service was excellent. As soon as we got off the bus, there's an iCafe right under the JR station where you can drop off your luggage. They then send it directly to the hotel for you. So by the time you're done exploring and ready to check in, your bags are already in your room. Plus, there's a shuttle bus every hour from 6:30 AM to 9:15 PM that picks you up and drops you off at the JR station, making the whole experience very thoughtful. The hot springs are also a highlight – there are many outdoor baths, all super relaxing. Breakfast is very substantial too; you absolutely have to try the fish and natto. The front desk staff were incredibly accommodating as well. They proactively added an extra bed for us. We're two adults and one child, and our room originally only had two standard beds, but they added another one next to them even before we checked in.

We are here for their onsen (can opt for private or public) and because of its strategic location from the train station and bus station. There are alot of food options within short walking distance, around 10-15 min walk to reach miyagawa river and enjoy their morning market. The hotel provides odens and new year noodle because we spent new year during our stays. They put extra care for kids amenities with a cute slippers and handkerchief. We enjoy our stay in Takayam

My first onsen experience was truly amazing! Kaiseki dinner was exceptional and unique - I’ve tried a lot of new dishes that I’ve never heard of. Staff was nice and friendly, transfer was waiting for us right at the exit of train station. Must visit site to feel the real onsen experience with rich history and traditions!

Affordable, comfortable and clean This hotel is located in the city center, affordable, comfortable and clean. The room is small but warmly decorated, making people feel at home. The service staff is friendly and enthusiastic to answer guests' questions. There are many special snacks and attractions around.

The quality of the hotel is very high. It's conveniently located near the train station and a 15 minute walk to the old town. The spa is really nice, clean, and spacious. The family spa is a nice touch. Rooms are very large, comfortable beds, with a tub. The only drawback is breakfast. The restaurant is too small to accommodate guests. It's odd that it's common in Japan to have large hotels, with many guests, include breakfast, and then build a tiny restaurant. Makes no sense. Options are limited and food is the same every day. I wouldn't recommend it, but there's so few options nearby or in the town in general, that you basically have to eat there. Just go before 8 AM. Otherwise, the hotel is really nice.

88MileLet's start with the conclusion: this hotel is definitely in my top three of all the hotels I've stayed at in Japan. If I could give it a 6 out of 5, I would! From the moment I first walked in to check in, every staff member greeted me warmly. During check-in, they meticulously explained the room facilities and hotel policies. What's more, everyone's English was excellent. After I mentioned that I was actually practicing my Japanese, the staff immediately switched to a slower pace of Japanese, which I really appreciated. The room facilities are comprehensive. You can't say they're bad just because they're not brand new, as they fulfill all necessary living functions perfectly. So, that's another 5 out of 5. The location is incredibly convenient. It's less than a 5-minute walk from the Nohi Bus Center. Turn left from the hotel, and you're at the shopping street in just one minute. It's also very close to the old town. So, the location also gets a 5 out of 5. During my three nights in Takayama, the hotel felt like a little haven I could quickly recall after a tiring day of sightseeing. Therefore, if I ever return to Takayama, I will definitely stay at this hotel again. On a side note, the service quality of Nohi Bus is also better than other bus companies I've taken in other parts of Japan. I don't have anywhere else to comment, so I'm mentioning it here. If any of the hotel staff know someone at Nohi Bus, maybe they could pass along the message, haha. If I had to point out an area for improvement, it would be the cleaning policy. I stayed for three nights and felt I didn't need daily cleaning, so I opted out. On the first day, I received fresh towels, and frankly, I felt I had enough. However, every day I received a new bag of towels and pajamas. I'm grateful, but it was a bit excessive. Perhaps they could add an option to not provide towels at all. Takayama is a gentle and quiet town, and Gift and Spa perfectly embodies the emotional comfort of this city. Thank you.

AAllblue1772The facilities have a more European-American style, simple, clean, and brightly colored. There's an outdoor onsen, which, though not huge, is perfectly fine when it's not too crowded. The lounge is also nice, a great spot to rest your feet when it's really cold. Transportation: Extremely convenient. It's only a ten-minute walk to the station, even with luggage, which is incredibly important. You can reach Takayama Jinya and Hie Shrine within 25 minutes. Surrounding Amenities: There's a large 7-Eleven convenience store just a ten-minute walk away. And right downstairs is the best Hida beef restaurant in Takayama – it was so easy to grab a ticket early. Cleanliness: Decent, didn't look dirty. Service: I have to give a special shout-out to the front desk staff – they spoke the best English of any hotel we encountered on our Nagoya trip. Communication was so smooth and pleasant. My wife forgot her onsen password, and the front desk quickly resolved it. I can't imagine how cold it would have been if the front desk didn't speak English and she had to go down in her onsen attire on such a chilly day.

AAnonymous UserClose to bus station, self check in/ check out, free ramen at night. Onsen was a bit confusing as a first timer as the shower is inside the onsen area and not in the changing area. Did not bother to wait for the private onsen as many couples were queuing in the public area already. Free popsicles on the way out from onsen.

AAnonymous UserTraveling during the National Day holiday, we booked a one-night stay with two meals. After arriving at Shimonokusu Station, an old man holding a sign guided us to the shuttle bus, which was surprisingly full. The meals, for this price (though there was a holiday premium), weren't quite on par with what we've had in Hakone or Okinawa, but they were certainly filling. We were attended to by a Chinese-speaking staff member. The private onsen in our room had extremely hot water, requiring a lot of cold water to temper it. Finally, when checking out and heading to the station, the hotel arranged and paid for a taxi for us.

I was worried about getting around because it seemed remote, but they provided pick-up and drop-off service, so it wasn't a problem at all. The food was delicious, the room was spacious, and the hot springs were wonderful. The staff were also very friendly, which I appreciated.
