We stayed one night en route to Hobbiton and liked it so much that we stayed another 2 later in our trip.
Great location, and Cambridge is a relatively easy base to get to other places from.
Beautiful decor throughout, nice finishings and really peaceful.
It was very busy during our stay (around Christmas/NY) so a little wait for food/drinks but that’s to be expected. We had positive interactions with all hotel and restaurant staff.
My only feedback is that the switches in the rooms have blue lights on them, which, for people that like a black-out room, can disrupt sleep. Hopefully an easy fix!
Hotel is trading on its name. Place is in desperate need of an upgrade to rooms and many facilities. No air conditioning to our hotel room, room had a ceiling fan and a cheap pedestal fan. Reasonable breakfast buffet selection, though several hot selections were cold, coffee machine broken and apple juice borderline off. Heated lap pool full of leaves and lot broken and slippery tiles around pool. Room bathroom was very dated and worn. Bed pillows were of poor quality. Rooms not very soundproof. Staff were friendly so no bad reflection on them, it’s down to management and ownership to make this a hotel to miss until significant upgrades, maintenance and improvements are completed. For the price we paid we could have stayed at many other nearby establishments, but chose Wairakei because of its name and perception that it was an upmarket establishment. We were wrong. Would not be rushing back to stay again.
The room is generally good, three beds, can sleep four people. You can see the lake in the distance. There are two Chinese foods in the town, which can be solved, but you must drive across the SH1 road.
The scenery is unique! The eldest brother is also very enthusiastic ~ everything is great! Suitable for bringing children to play ~ swimming pool, it will be very comfortable in summer ~ the surrounding is quiet. If you go, it is recommended to bring more food up the mountain ~ the experience is better
It's 15-20 minutes' drive from Hamilton. The soundproofing of the room is a bit poor, but otherwise it's very good. The taste is online, especially the lady at the front desk is very enthusiastic and friendly.
The room is very unique, but a little small. The breakfast is average. There are three pools in the wild hot spring, which is very artistic. The disadvantage is that the water temperature is a little low. For people who like hot springs, it is not up to standard.
We loved the room which came with a balcony overlooking the beautiful lake Taupo. The grotto and the heated pool were amazing and provided us with a very relaxing stay.
The room was very clean. This charming guesthouse is run by an elderly couple and features a lovely front courtyard. It's incredibly close to the Firefly Cave. The owners even recommended a really popular restaurant nearby where we got a 10% discount.
The hotel is about 2.5km from the Hamilton train station. We took a taxi from the train station, and the driver charged us NZD25. My booking confirmation said that the check out time was 11:00, but the hotel insisted it should be 10:00 which is fine. The booking confirmation clearly say that breakfast was free, but the hotel tried to charge 13 pp. Hamilton is a nice place which is close to Waitomo and Hobbiton.

AAnonymous UserThe name may give you some illusions, but it is actually a standard motel. Many rooms are hard to find at night, but the location is good, close to the lake. The interior of the room is standard and the hygiene is good.

Ssamuel eelWas a good one... It was a pleasant trip I had. The location of the hotel was good too.
Super friendly staff and good hotel. Will definitely come back again. Breakfast was really impressive.
The only sad thing would be.... Super limited parking
GGuest User⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 — Comfortable, Clean, and Great for a Short Stay
This isn’t a fancy or high-end hotel, but it’s definitely a great place to spend a couple of nights—especially if you’re visiting Rotorua and Taupō. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, which is really all you need for a short stay when you’re out exploring most of the day.
Don’t expect 5-star facilities or luxury features, but the overall experience is solid and very safe too. The stay was pleasant, the environment was tidy, and it offered good value for money. A reliable and convenient option for travellers passing through or wanting a simple base to explore the area.
Rreturn visitorA tiny motel, has basic amenities. Didn't know there's a communal kitchen until we were leaving.
It's a good stop over point, but most of the town closes either early or has long weekends, so make sure you have supplies beforehand. When we arrived there there was no reception, had a number and person to ring, the entrance is a bit tricky ”around the back”...yep that's exactly what it is.
RRohana SaharomWe loved the room which came with a balcony overlooking the beautiful lake Taupo. The grotto and the heated pool were amazing and provided us with a very relaxing stay.
KkeniofdavalleyThe room we stayed in (3 bedroom townhouse) was part of an old motel next door that was acquired and integrated into Quality Inn Acapulco. Its very old and dated, much of the facilities are ran to their life end.
That said, the motel is clean and convenient.
GGuest UserI reserved an apartment with a sofa bed, and the room was far brighter and more spacious than the photos suggested. It was clean and roomy, with a pleasant balcony furnished with chairs, and parking was readily available. The location was convenient, near shops and a short walk or drive from the beach and supermarket. The only drawback was that noisy neighbors arriving late at night in large groups disturbed our sleep with their shouting. Despite this, it was the best accommodation we encountered during our trip.
