New Year's Eve Kirtan & Cacao Ceremony Celebration w Sun Hyland. | Centre of You
Dec 31, 2024 (UTC+10)
Centre
AN ALTERNATE WAY TO SPEND & CELEBRATE NEW YEAR'S EVE DOWN CHAPS! Ceremonial space meets celebratory chanting & integrative community hangouts over mantra-infused supper! This evening is centred around INTENTION, CELEBRATION and boldly, courageously stepping into 2025 in heart-led alignment with life deliberately created. >> FIRST UP... Cacao Ceremony: We will anchor in, ground and connect with the nurturing aid of cacao via a heart-centred intention setting ceremony brimming with intent facilitated by Grace Elizabeth. >> AND THEN... WE CHANT: With ceremonial cacao now nestled within your being, be led by Sun Hyland into experiencing the blissful, rejuvenating power of the yogic practice of Kirtan: mantra and music. Kirtan, or call and response devotional chanting, is a meditative practice to move you into the heart space. Connect to your breath, give the mind a break and immerse yourself in soul-nourishing, uplifting, high vibrational sound. Sun’s uplifting vocal melodies and beautiful musicianship create the ideal soundscape for this simple, magical, joyous practice. It is our intrinsic birth right to gather in community and sing. No experience needed. Come as you are - all welcome. >> ANNNNNDDD THEN... MANTRA-INFUSED SUPPER! At this point you may wish to take yourself off to onward NYE plans (which may just be to take yourself home) or stay a while and marinate in the connective bliss of kindred community over supper prepared by Sun. About your musicians: Sun Hyland -@sun_hyland Sun is a Kirtanist, songwriter & music teacher based in Australia. His heartfelt devotion to yogic practice combined with many years of experience sharing and teaching music makes him the ideal person to guide you on your kirtan journey. For the last 15 years Sun has been leading soulful and uplifting musical mantra & meditation sessions at festivals and yoga centres around Australia & beyond. *Supporting musicians to be announced. Things to note: Centre of You has plenty of bolsters, blankets, and cushions for you to get cosy with. We recommend wearing comfortable, loose clothes to enable deep breathing and sitting/laying upon the floor with ease. A journal is recommended as are any familiar personal items that will aid you in feeling grounded (crystal, teddy, scarf, etc). Arrival: Endeavour to arrive between 7:15pm - 7:30pm. To preserve the experience for all involved, doors will close at 7:45pm. Truly, it breaks our heart to have to turn latecomers away yet the disruption to the whole group experience by virtue of lateness does require management. We ask that you find understanding and consideration for the timebound nature of the container and make every effort to arrive on time. Driving: Know Centre of You is on Chapel St and ample time to find a car spot is best to be factored into your plans. Park direct on Chapel St (spots unmetered after 5pm) or in Anchor Place, the open-air parking lot in the side street that runs opposite Centre of You (unmetered after 4pm). Public transport - tram: Both the number 6 tram & 78 tram stop on the corner of High St/Chapel St. This is stop 31 on the number 6 tram (Moreland/Glen Iris) & stop 45 on the number 78 tram (North Richmond/Balaclava). Public transport - train: Both Prahran & Windsor stations along the Sandringham Line will get you walking distance to Centre of You. Finding Centre of You: Centre of You is nestled within the arcade that Chapel St Bazaar is in (217 Chapel St). It is up a flight of stairs with a wide landing at the half-way-point. Unfortunately, this current version of Centre of You does not have a wheelchair accessible lift. If you could use support in getting up the stairs or would like to discuss ways to make your experience at Centre of You more comfortable, please reach out via grace@centreofyou.com.au or via DM over on Centre of You Instagram. Accessibility: At COY we aim to ensure our community and events are inclusive and accessible while alongside upholding the needs and responsibilities of our business and the businesses of our collaborating facilitators. Should you be in a time of financial challenge and unable to pay the full ticket price comfortably, please reach out to grace@centreofyou.com.au Ticketing T&Cs: We get it, life happens, therefore we will gladly refund you up until 24hrs before the event start time. After that, we have a strict no refund/no transfer to future events policy. If you are no longer able to attend and wish to pay forward your ticket to someone within the community, be in touch via grace@centreofyou.com.au or via DM over on Centre of You Instagram. Questions? Madison Violet | Upstairs Lounge, Oak Bay Recreation Centre

For those who don’t know of Madison Violet, it all began in 1999. Brenley MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac (yes, Ashley's sister) met over weak coffee and broccoli omelettes, in a restaurant called The Green Room, in Toronto. It was a chance meeting, 1900 kms away from the small Cape Breton town where both Lisa and Brenley’s fathers were born. That was 20 years ago, and the pair have been writing and creating beautiful music together ever since. When you hear Madison Violet, the first thing you’ll notice is that their voices blend together, symbiotically, like family: Born to sing the same songs. Over the past decade and a half, the pair have taken to genre-bending, moving effortlessly from folk to pop to electronic to Americana. In a word, they are musical chameleons. Over the years, Madison Violet have acquired quite a few accolades, including a Juno nomination, a Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Vocal Group Album of the Year and a Critic’s Choice Award from Country Music People’s Magazine. Their songs have been featured in the notorious music magazine MOJO’s Top 10 Playlist, and received a mass of acclaim from outlets such as the BBC, the CBC, Maverick Magazine and NPR, and have earned the duo the Grand Prize in the 2010 Maxell John Lennon Song Writing Contest (which was voted on by a panel of distinguished artists including Elton John, Tim McGraw, Black Eyed Peas, Fergie, John Legend, Enrique Iglesias and Mary J. Blige). Madison Violet were on Germany’s WDR's list of ‘Best Bands of All Time’ as well as having song placements on various television shows. Their recent single ‘These Ships’ was released on one of the largest dance labels in the U.S., Ultra Records, and has garnered over 1,000,000 plays on Spotify already. Brenley and Lisa are singer-songwriters. Multi-instrumentalists. Harmonizers. Dog lovers. Nature walkers. Painters. Tennis fanatics. Amateur chefs. They have been described as pop, roots, indie, dance and Americana, but this quote perhaps sums them up best... Madison Violet has suddenly appeared like a ray of sunshine on a rainy day. www.madisonviolet.com The Upstairs Lounge is a licensed restaurant and bar, doors open at 6 pm for dinner service, the concert starts at 7:30 pm. Please note this is a listening venue.
