Children in Leeds can now learn to ride a bike without stabilisers at the Beginners Learn to Ride sessions at Carr Manor Community School. These fun and relaxed lessons are perfect for children who are unable to ride or still feel wobbly without support. The sessions are open to children aged 5 and older, with small group sizes to ensure maximum benefit for all participants. Please note that there will be a maximum of 3 children per instructor, so these are not one-to-one lessons. Participants can bring their own pedal bike without stabilisers, but helmets, balance bikes, and spare bikes will also be provided. Dr Kehler, the Research Chair of Masculinities Studies, and Dr Knott-Fayle, the Post-doctoral Scholar of Masculinities Studies in Education, will delve into the prevailing notion that sport is an exclusive domain for men. They will challenge the stereotypes associated with locker rooms and male-dominated spaces within sports culture. By drawing on qualitative data from recent research, the speakers will examine the experiences of male-identifying athletes and explore the implications of straying from traditional masculine norms. The seminar will also address pressing topics such as athlete activism, mental health, body image issues, and gender-based violence.
