Mezzotint is an Intaglio printmaking process without the use of harsh chemicals. This burnish from dark to light can yield high quality rich velvety prints. Y ou will have the opportunity to test print and produce a range of final prints to take away, along with your copper plate. No experience is necessary, you can approach this workshop as a complete beginner or a printmaker wanting to experience more techniques. All materials are included in the workshop price. On The Day Doors are open for tea and coffee at 10am and we aim to be wrapped up by 4.30pm. If you need to leave earlier, let me know at the start. Eric Ravilious in Watercolour - Learn to paint Sussex Downs | Seven Sisters Country Park - Visitor Centre
Nov 17, 2024 (UTC+0)ENDED
Centre
If you've ever been inspired by Eric Ravilious' paintings, or by the moody misty hills of the Sussex Downs, this is a workshop for you. Hosted in a cosy converted barn in Cuckmerehaven (one of the locations of Ravilious's paintings), spend a day with likeminded people, learning the basics of watercolour & landscape painting inspired by Ravilious's style of painting. What we'll be doing: We’ll be going over basic watercolour skillssuch as paint consistency, brush strokes, colour mixing, layering and more. We'll learn specific skills that Ravilious uses in his paintings to create depth & mood. We will be working from books & reference images, as well as learning how to create our own compositions. Low pressure: This class is a mixture of learning something new and more in depth as well as just having a lovely day. It’s a very low pressure and friendly class- while learning techniques - the most important thing is to just experiment and see what happens, and enjoy doing something arty surrounded by nature! What you'll come away with: There are 8 space in this class, meaning there's always enugh time for me to give individual advice. Everyone has a different style & way of working and the aim is not to be able to create an exact copy of his paintings. By the end of the class I aim to have taught you many different techniques, that you can take or leave based on your personal preference, and use them in your own unique way. Who it's for: Beginners and anyone keen on learning to paint in watercolour! Many people who come to my classes haven't painted since school - if you are one of those people you're very welcome. If you have previous drawing experience it will help you to focus a little more on the watercolour technique, where as if you are totally new, just be prepared it may take a little longer to combine all of the techiques we are learning together! As long as you come with an open mind, and try not to pressure yourself to create a masterpiece but focus on experimenting and learning, thats the main thing :-) ----- Schedule: Arrive a bit early to get settled in, get a hot drink & have a wonder about the siteAt 10:00 we'll start paintingStarting with basic techniquesApply these techniques to painting flowers from lifeLearn about compositionCombine lessons in technique & composition onto one or two pages(In the 6 hr class on the 10th of November, we will stick to the same schedule, but have longer for each section meaning more technqiues, and more time to put them into practise) ------ How to get here: Public Transport: Get a 12, 12X, 12a, 13X (any 'coaster' bus) to Seven Sisters Park centre. By Car: Parking at the venue costs £4.50 for the day YOUR TUTOR Hi I'm Zara who's behind Ginger Green. I started teaching watercolours in March 2023 which is exciting because its almost been a whole year! Three times a week I run beginner watercolour classes where each session we have a different theme, generally to do with nature. This year I'm looking forward to running day courses, or some courses that span over a few weeks where we can get really stuck in to a particular subject. My background is in illustration which I studied in Bristol from 2016 - 2019. I have previously worked in a bit of editorial illustration under the name 'Zara Wilkins' and also help to organise Brighton Illustration Fair. The thing I love most about watercolours is that it is so versatile and beautiful. There are so many different ways that it can be used, so many effects that you can create with different levels of water, pigment, paper weights and brushes. There doesn't really seem to be an end to what you can do with it. Teaching this year has been such an amazing introduction for me into the breadth of watercolour and I'm really excited to just paint with you and see where 2024 takes us!
