It really is outdated, compared to other spas and hotels of similar ilk. For instance I stayed at Dunked house, it was night and day. The staff are great but the place needs a lot of money spent on it. In our room 317 we hd a television that had half the screen darker than the other half, good thing we didn't go here to watch the telly. The pool area was nice but needs refurbed. The big steps taking you down the front are dangerous for elderly people, they are patched up and in a very, very, ”note the two very's” bad state to of affairs to say the least. Would I stay here again, probably not till the place has been upgraded. Looking at what I have seen of the hotel, this is going to take millions of pounds to do. I enjoyed the archery, the wee girl was a great help. To be fair the staff are lovely but things really need to improve on the hotel side.
Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf and Spa

Hotels was great service was fab and food in restaurant great. Only thing missing is a jacuzzi in the spa. Our trip was spoilt by the reception charging us twice for our accommodation. Already paid via trip.com and then got home to discover the hotel had also charged directly. Despite informing Hotel of this error on day of departure, a week later and multiple tel call we still haven’t the money returned to our account. As a result we will not be returning as very poor post trip customer care!
Traquair Arms Hotel

3x blokes, road cycling trip across Scotland. September 2023. Fantastic hotel, and exceptionally good value. Location is brilliant, lovely ride in along the marked Scottish C2C route, the hotel is right on the route so no detours. Staff excellent and friendly from start-to-finish. Checked our 3 bikes into the self-service secure storage. Enjoyed a great (well earned) 3 course dinner in the hotel restaurant, which had a great a**osphere and as mentioned, lovely staff. (There is also a great brewery tap next door if you fancy a change of scenery - we didn't manage to get further than that in the village!) Breakfast served early, first-class traditional Scottish - but plenty of other options. Unlimited coffee and juice, we were really happy. Rooms are good for the price, simple ”pub with rooms” style, remember. Everything needed for a stay of this type. It was very hot, but I still slept well. Highly recommended, we'd stay at Traquair Arms again without hesitation.
Barony Castle Hotel

We got married at Barony Castle on 14 April. Our wedding day was amazing, everything we hoped it would be and more! Despite our original wedding co-ordinator leaving a few weeks before the wedding, Hannah, our new co-ordinator was on hand straight away. She had thoroughly read our file and arranged to meet us to ease any concerns we may have had. She was always happy to answer questions by email/phone or meet us if required. Hannah and the rest of the team made sure our day went smoothly. Our room, the Eddleston suite, which I got ready in is beautiful. It is lovely and bright for doing hair and make up and was nice to stay in. The Elibank room was set up perfectly for our ceremony. It was absolutely beautiful. Our meal was delicious and guests commented on how much they enjoyed the food. (including those with dietary requirements). The service was quick and efficient and the food piping hot. We had been for a tasting 6 months prior to the day where Jeanette talked us through each chosen dish and the wines that would be served. Our evening reception was held in the Meldons room. We had an LED dance floor as part of our wedding package and it looked fantastic. We had about 60 guests and the room was beautifully decorated with the tables laid out well. We supplied our own DJ, Marvellous Disco (also recommended) and the dance floor was never empty! For our buffet we had stovies and bacon rolls which were very good. Service at the bar was friendly and efficient with no long waits. There were security guards hired privately by Barony Castle as they do for all functions. The two gents were very pleasant, they didn't 'guard' our reception and were out of sight. It did not have any impact on our overall enjoyment. A fresh, hot and delicious breakfast was brought to our room the next morning. In summary we would highly recommend the Barony Castle Hotel for a wedding and thank all the staff that were involved. We're now looking forward to our return for our 1st anniversary stay.

My husband and I have visited Cringletie House Hotel before as ordinary travellers but this is our first time with a wheelchair and we are both disabled ( my husband with major disabilities) Rest assured, I use the word ‘ ordinary ‘ but no guests at Cringletie are treated as ordinary. The staff are amazing and all guests receive red carpet treatment. However, the hotel’s website lays claim to being completely wheelchair friendly and I was interested to see if that were the case. In such a historic building it is rare to find lift access to all rooms and public areas, and, with the exception of the conservatory, which could be accessed from the outside, we were able to use all public rooms. Traqair, the wheelchair suite on the ground floor, was superb, with rising chairs, beds and all bathroom facilities geared up to wheelchair use. It even had a fob on the key which opened and closed the door automatically. As anyone with a wheelchair knows, getting through doors is a perennial challenge. The only tricky part( two steps up from reception) is managed with a ramp, which the hotel puts up specially and ensures there are always staff to take the wheelchair up and down. So our stay was a luxurious treat with everything we could have wished for as disabled guests. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff . As for the hotel generally, I cannot praise too highly the attention to detail and superb service in every respect. Reception Always obliging, they will facilitate anything . In our own case, bookings had to be altered on more than one occasion and Harriet and Jodie were patience exemplified. Housekeeping Our stay presented many challenges and the housekeeping staff were superb. The hotel still offers a turn down service in the evening with chocolate gifts! It goes without saying that cleaning standards are 5 star Restaurant We are used to eating out at excellent, nationally renowned restaurants/hotels and Cringletie House is right up there.Excellent freshly cooked breakfasts and beautifully presented, perfectly balanced taster menu. Ingredients were of the highest quality. Front of house service was not overbearing but friendly and attentive. Unlike other establishments, we always felt comfortable Garden The gardener takes pride in the lovely walled garden and all grounds are really professionally kept. He must have to work very hard to maintain such standards, but the result is a superb setting for the hotel. The Owner Bill Cross exemplifies hotel ownership at its best. Every guest receives a handwritten note of welcome, and he is present, at different times of the day to chat to guests about their stay, one gets the impression that he misses nothing and makes sure that standards are maintained and guests are completely satisfied with Cringletie. He clearly takes pride in the hotel and this is reflected in all areas. So, if this review appears to be a glowing one, I can only say that in my experience, having travelled round the
