The hotel houses a restaurant (Fallowfields) with a 3 rosette reputation which was well deserved, open Wednesday to Saturday. This provides a tasting Menu which changes every 6 weeks. The Terrace restaurant was therefore used by guests staying more than one night for most of their stay unless they dined elsewhere or wanted to taste the same menu twice! Our room although smaller than some, had recently been redecorated and had a very up to date shower, king size plus bed with 2 separate mattresses and was very comfortable. There were biscuits on arrival , we could ask for fresh milk for our room's tea and coffee and whilst the view (No 15) was not directly facing the sea (these were al booked) it was still interesting to look out of the window. The redecoration had probably caused some of our setbacks as initially the TV did not work and whilst there were numerous USB ports to use , only one worked! The Manager sorted the TV promptly but we did not bother him with the USB Ports as we could manage with one. The room generally was very clean, although it was disappointing to find one of the towels in the room was stained yellow. The owners were not obviously on site which was a shame as this gave an impression of them not being bothered with what went on and some things do need attention. The General Manager, we were told, is leaving at the end of the month, so I am unclear what is happening after this. Food in the Terrace restaurant is perfectly good, but the kitchen sometimes seems to muddle or forget what customers have ordered so that accompaniments to the food may come out towards the end of the meal rather than at the start. There is not a great variety if guests wanted to stay for a week or more although the choice of fish varies. If you have an dietary issues , then this is not perhaps the best place to go as we had been told certain food would be provided by the hotel but on arriving, we found this not to b the case. There was confusion over the time to eat at breakfast, apparently your dietary requirements means the timing going to a different section of the computer , so on the second morning we found that we were not on any breakfast list. This was eventually sorted, but no apology was offered by the Manager who had said it was our fault as we head not booked in each morning at e same time. Two key people in making our stay really enjoyable were Alexander in the Fallowfields restaurant , who for an 18 year old was amazing and Kelsey (hope I have her name correct!) who often ended up having to smooth things over when information was wrongly communicated. The setting on the SW Coastal foot path was wonderful and all the staff were friendly but it does need someone to take hold of the business and show it as it could be - there is the potential for a much better experience.
