Premier Inn Berwick Upon Tweed Hotel

Firstly I want to say that the staff are a credit to this company. They were prepared to give 110% to their guest even on the busiest days/evening always with a smile. This is our 3rd visit and won’t be our last Berwick is ideal base to explore the Scottish Borders and visit the castles in Northumberland, although the town it self is beginning to to look run down
The White Swan Inn

Absolute gem of a find. We were looking for a reasonably priced B&B or hotel in the area and found the white swan. Room was fantastic with a ginormous king sized bed. Lovely touch as they rang me on the afternoon before we checked in to see if we wanted to book a table as they were busy with table bookings that evening. We were glad we accepted, the evening meal was out of this world and so was the breakfast next morning. We will definitely return and recommend to everyone if you want a fantastic experience in a beautiful little country village then staying here is a must!
The Castle Hotel

I had a three night stay in this pub hotel, situated close to the train station and only a five minute walk to the town centre. Check in was friendly and efficient - the receptionist was very helpful in assisting me with transport information. My room was clean, with a skylight window, and nice refreshments. The bathroom was small, but clean. The shower was adequate but the sink was too small and there was no hot water during my stay - I was told the bathroom was due an overhaul. Breakfast was fresh and well presented (both self-service and table-served). I had some issues with accessing WiFi as my room was some distance from the router, but WiFi worked well in the breakfast room and the bar. There were lots of choices of bars, cafes and restaurants within 10-15 minutes walk from the hotel (I'd highly recommend Coull's and Audela) and it was easy to walk to the tourist sites in the area. In general shops don't open early and many in the town were closed on Wednesday afternoon. Bus services were good and I was easily able to explore the Northumberland coast.
Orkney Guest House

This is rather a difficult review to write. There are many positives about the property so I'll list those first: The location is fabulous. There is parking outside the front door, the town walls are about a minutes walk and the town hall and high street maybe two minutes. Helen is a wonderful host, chatty and knowledgeable. The other side of the coin is that the property is run down, untidy and in severe need of maintenance and updating. I can imagine it is a struggle running a property such as this but if you are going to advertise it as a guesthouse then that's what it needs to be, not a dosshouse. There are other people staying there, and I can imagine the income is a life saver, but they really had no idea how to interact with paying customers. One of them was washing in the sink when we came downstairs and then walk to his room just in his boxers. Not a big issue but again it comes down to which income stream is more important. The house has the potential to be a fabulous boutique B&B but to do so would need a lot of investment. It's not there at the moment.
