Hotels in Oud-West, Amsterdam

This a very nice hotel and is a great location. Don't let the entry and ”lobby” scare you off, it is VERY tiny, but the rooms are not. The room was very spacious, and the bathroom was a good size as well. There was an AC unit in the room that we could control and were able to run the AC at night. We had a corner room and I think that might have given us a little more space. The street it's on seems busy during the day, but it is quiet at night and outside noise was not an issue. The location is great. It was central to everything we were doing while we were visiting and is near the museums, restaurants and bars. The front desk person gave us the BEST recommendation for a breakfast restaurant that is right by the hotel - Ted's and reserved a taxi for us when it was time to go to the airport. You'll need to reserve the taxi the day/night before. If you let them know what time you need to leave, they will make the arrangements with the taxi company. I would stay here again.

Good points Good clean rooms and great location easy to get into main town and lots of shops and bars nearby. The room was very clean and comfortable Friendly staff Comfortable beds Funky interior and very modern Not so good points No water or mini bar in room The hotel has an honesty bar, this had not been mentioned in any other reviews or stated on the booking. I was a little disappointed that a so called luxury hotel had a self service bar/fridge with limited supplies of drink. It was also expensive. The hotel also requested we booked a reservation time for breakfasts, it soon became apparent that this was because the dining area/restaurant is far to small to accommodate more than a handful of hotel guest at one time comfortably. The check out time was changed on arrival the initial booking had said check was 12 when we arrived it had changed to 11am. I would recommend the hotel for location and cleanliness and we still had a fabulous time in Amsterdam but it’s definitely not on par with other boutique hotel I have stayed at.

The good: First and foremost, the staff. All very friendly doing their best to help with any problem that may arise, whether it has to do with your stay at he hotel or not. Good location, close to the museum quarter, five minutes' walk to the tram station that goes to Dam square and the train station, in a quiet residential street. OK: Rooms are very small and compact, but that seems to be the general situation in Amsterdam, and if you're out all day seeing the sights then it's not a deal breaker. The bad: Housekeeping needs to get their act together. Checked in, went up to the room, entered the bathroom and was greeted by a very strong smell of mildew or something similar. Fortunately I was immediately given another room without any argument. Went up to the room, entered the bathroom, and noticed that one of the overhead lamps was not working. Took a shower and found that there's a drainage problem with the water draining so slowly that I had to shut the water flow so as not to have water overflowing onto the floor. Nothing tragic, and it was all fixed the next day, but one would think that the job of housekeeping is to take care of these problems BEFORE the guest checks in, not after.

The hotel has a novel design, and the underground lobby is specially decorated with many different decorations. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the bathrooms are spacious and the location is quite convenient. There are markets nearby, fresh fruits and vegetables for sale, food streets, lots of different kinds of food, and the atmosphere of local dinner.

Yes, I booked late and got the lower floor single room, for the price I had expected more. The staff was very helpful. No complaints there. The room was small, but quite adequate for a few days. It looked directly out on the hotel's garden, which might bother some. Bathroom tiny, like all bathrooms in Amsterdam, but manageable. Décor was attractive, the bed and pillow were comfortable but paint chips were just about everywhere, even a burned cigarette hole in one of the chairs. The carpet was not clean. Breakfast was sub par. In Amsterdam I've always gotten more variety and better quality. Of course, it was largely preferable to spending who knows how much at a nice breakfast place in the area. You may have guessed, I love to load up big on breakfast and then stay out fully energized for as long as possible. This strategy may not appeal most people though. One of the big pros is, obviously, the location, especially if you are a museum fanatic like me. I was there to see the fabulous Vermeer exhibition at the Rijksmuseum so a 8-minute walk gets you first in line no sweat. And if like me, you've stayed hours in the museum, the short walk back to the hotel is a life saver. So, I'd love to be more lenient because the staff was kind and really helpful but I do hope to avoid disappointments for other travelers who are, unlike me, more concerned about the hotel they are in. I would suggest you don't get the lower level rooms and things might be better. Rule out breakfast though. Hope that helps...enjoy Amsterdam.

I wrote this review as an email to the hotel two weeks ago, but never got an answer. So: staying at this hotel absolutely did not set our expectations. First of all, when I booked the room, I was told it costs 216 €. But in the end I was charged 235 €. I thought I would not mention this, but in the end the room definitely did not reach the standard of such a high price. 1. The floor was sticky. 2. The wood of the table under the sink was all shattered and swollen. Worse than in a youth hostel. 3. When we arrived, there was a bit of a bad smell coming from the drain under the shower. 4. There were obvious drips of urine on the toilet seat. 5. The second part of the dual-flush did not work. 6. When we came back from the show we attended, the reek in the bath room had gotten worse, but it was late and we did not want any hassle. 7. In the morning, the smell had become an abominable stench in the bath room. My girlfriend nearly threw up and couldn’t even use the shower. It was so nauseating that I had to reach out her tooth brush since she could not make one step into the bath room. All in all, the room was much too expensive for what it was. A pretty poor experience. Actually, I am not that kind of complaining person, but this honestly was close to a fraud.

It's quite clean. It would be better if the charger has power. It's like thunder when passing the tram outside. But at this price in Amsterdam, what kind of bicycle do you need?

The hotel is older, the facilities are slightly older and the carpet looks dirty. The sound of closing the door in other rooms is louder, the faucet is a little leaky, it is very hard to switch, and the heat of the water is difficult to adjust. The elevator is so small that you can probably stand two people. The room is really small, probably the general situation in Amsterdam. The street room will be a bit noisy and there will be a car. The location is very good, less than ten minutes is Leighton Square, a lot of places to eat. Walking to the National Museum and the Van Gogh Museum are not far away. You can pick up hot water at the water bar, and the postage at the front desk will help you post postcards. Hope the doors and faucets could be fixed or changed.

We stayed with a Rick Steve's tour group. This company is clear to advise you that you will be staying in moderate European hotels on their tours, meaning they may have limited or no air conditioning, may have street noise, may be small, etc. This hotel had all of these drawbacks. Again, this was as advertised to us but something other U.S. travelers may want to know as the standards are very different. The unadvertised problem with this hotel is that it is dirty. We had two rooms, both of which were sloppy or sticky when we arrived and got no better with housekeeping. Both rooms had dirty linens, to the point of being stained; full of hair and other flotsam; and smelling bad in one of the rooms. I actually tied a pajama top around my pillow hoping to lessen the smell of it. They were working on housekeeping throughout our stay so I don't know where the disconnect was. We don't normally stay at hotels at this classification but it's a part of the tour culture for this company. We have been on several tours with them previously so knew what to expect and how to adjust our expectations. We tried to roll with this place hoping it would just make for a funny story but ultimately could not tolerate it; we checked out early and paid for another hotel. I don't think I've posted a hotel review in a decade, that's how unpleasant it was. There are plenty of other poor reviews here, including from other people on Rick Steve's tours so it's not a one off. I'll be sharing my unhappiness with the company in the hopes they change hotels. I understand they have a long relationship with them but we are too far past COVID restrictions for this to be tolerated. If you aren't with a tour group there is no reason to stay here. On the positive side it is very centrally located and the staff were okay. Relative to some other hotels in this category we stayed at it was modern. It just isn't clean.
