Extended Stay America Suites - Detroit - Ann Arbor - Briarwood Mall

Ann Arbor|0.47km from LOFT
I recently stayed the Extended Stay America - Briarwood Mall location for a week long work trip and was completely appalled with my experience. Cleanliness of the entire hotel and offensive treatment from hotel staff contributed to this. Upon arrival, staff was extremely unknowledgeable about the check in process, and even gave us the wrong room number. Once we entered the room, there was a musty smell, the room seemed barley cleaned, with food crumbs all over the place. Additionally, I found a used razor and bag of God knows what underneath the bathroom sink (see picture). But these issues are extremely minor compared to the situation that arose on the last night of my stay. The staff approached the co-worker I was staying with and myself and accused us of indecent exposure from the previous night, and mentioned extremely offensive comments about our outfits. They were insulating that there was illegal and immoral activity happening when we were leaving to be picked up by other co-workers. I have outlined specific thoughts about the situation below. 1) My co-worker and I are both college educated individuals graduating from top universities, and top in our class. We both work for an extremely respected tech company for over a year now. 2) There was no evidence that this ”complaint” was about my co-worker and I. The hotel staff said that they ”heard” us say room 104, but my co-worker and I were only in the lobby for less than 60 seconds without speaking to anyone and there was no Staff at the front desk when we left for the night. 3) Not that it matters, but I was dressed in a tank top, jeans, and sneakers. My co-worker was wearing a jacket, jeans and sneakers as well. 4) When speaking to the hotel manager on the phone, she threatened to call the police for indecent exposure, and refused to provide a refund until she ”reviewed the camera footage”. It has been 3+ days now, and I have not heard anything from her. Additionally, I don't understand why the camera footage needs to be reviewed because the overall issue is that the Hotel staff was extremely offensive and judgemental. I've never felt more uncomfortable and violated in my entire life, and I will NEVER be staying at an Extended Stay or any affiliated hotels again.

The air conditioning sound is too loud. Most American hotels are cabinet air conditioners. They are placed on the floor below the window and the sound is too loud. Parking is also available for a fee. Close to Northwestern University, the environment is good

We have stayed at other hotels when visiting our student and this is one of the best. Great location, great rooms. We were only there for a night but it did not disappoint. We walked to amazing restaurants and shopping. The curtains are actually blackout and the bed is so comfortable you will want to know what mattress it is. When you walk up the view over Ann Arbor is great.

Don’t let the pictures online fool you! My stay here did not live up to expectations or my past stays at other Staybridge hotels (or other IHG hotels in other cities around the world, for that matter). However, my stay was not all negative, so let me focus on the positives first. Let me note that while I stayed here for one night while in the process of moving to a new city, I did not have the breakfast here, nor did I use the hotel’s amenities, so this review will skip those parts of the stay. The hotel’s location is very convenient, located just off I-94 which provides easy access to DTW as needed. It is also located to a lot of nearby restaurants and stores, although a bit of a drive from the University of Michigan if you are here for the university. The lobby provides a cheery, refreshing welcome upon entering, and the front desk staff were friendly and attentive. The rooms are also pretty spacious, no surprise given this is a hotel composed of suites. The bed is also very comfortable and I received a good night sleep. But that’s pretty much where it all ends positivity wise… Despite the room being spacious, it seems as if housekeeping does not do their job as the room was very dirty upon entering. There were also stains on the walls and there were even blood stains in certain areas of the washroom. Absolutely disgusting, and especially unacceptable especially during pandemic times! The shower was also below average and water pressure was quite weak. If I had to describe what the shower experience was like at this hotel, it was almost as if the water was trickling. Seriously. It seems as if there are a numerous amount of hotels in close proximity to this one. I would most certainly look at those other options, because other people are pointing out the same flaws as me online. 2 stars seems just right for me given that there were some positives about my stay here.

The location is located in the city center and the university campus. The hotel is clean and comfortable, with advanced facilities, user-friendly design, and good service attitude. The son is very praised, saying that it is on the same level as a five-star hotel, and the breakfast is good!

This hotel is extremely cost effective! The hotel is warm and comfortable in public areas, with a restaurant, gym, swimming pool...like a resort. Perfect for families, breakfast and Wi-Fi are great! Very satisfied! Recommended for visitors to Ann Arbor, Michigan, 10 minutes drive from Ann Arbor University

Absolutely love the staff here! Everyone is so welcoming and friendly. Breakfast is great. The attendant does a good job at switching out utensils frequently and is always wiping tables and chairs down. The pool is big and always warm! The cleanest hotel I have ever stayed at. There was a guy who was even shampooing the carpets in the hallway! That is not something you see every day. It got me thinking about how dirty other hotel hallway carpets are. Love the fall decorations out front. Great touch! I definitely will stay here whenever I am in Ann Arbor and will be recommending to all my friends and family as well!
